When you guys are talking about temps, which monitor are you looking at?
There's a big discrepancy between Ryzen Master and HWinfo, at least 6-7C, and I'm not sure which is more accurate.

Gaming temps at 85C (HWinfo reading) on my 5900X are kinda worrying me, not sure if I need a better cooler.
*
Hwinfo is more reliable as ryzen master takes the average between ccx so it will look odd when your cpu is throttling but the temps are not that high. And yes, ryzen are actually way hotter than what everyone says especially for gaming so you definitely need something like a 360mm aio for that 5900X or a D15 for air cooling.

if your cpu load is not 100% while gaming then you need a better cooler, a stress test benchmark will send your cpu to thermal throttle mode.

Thanks for the tips and feedback!
I'm currently running an Arctic Freezer 34 with push/pull fans in a Meshify C case.
Thanks to the great advice in this thread, I've got the 5900X tuned with PBO, CO -25 on most cores, Auto OC +200 and stock power limits.
I'm pretty sure I'm bouncing off the 90C thermal limit, as max temps are 89.9C.

I've been struggling to decide between a Noctua D15S + additional 120mm fan (case clearance issues) or a 240mm top-mounted AIO, because that's all I room for.

Which would give better overall cooling performance in a mesh case?

Unless if you could fit a 280mm or 360mm aio, D15s with additional fans will be the better choice over 240mm aio...

For those who know Mandarin, 5900X delided by China Youtuber, temp improvement after delided not impressive.

That's the price to pay for buying from Dell/HP/Lenovo...  biggrin.gif

for Omen 25L, there's some mesh holes at the bottom of the case and according to reddit, it can fit 2 x 92mm fan as intake... hopefully that will help abit...
*
Not really an excuse for OEMs, especially with Dell stuck on 90s style heatbox designs.

The Omen seems to have another variant using a thicker front panel and NZXT style cutouts for fan intake, doesn't seem to be the case with yours.

Lenovo has a desktop model with a dual fan intake at the front behind a mesh grille, that looks like a gold standard for OEM designs.

delid direct die + 360mm aio still thermal throttle at 90C?

Video guy was expecting better results than der8auer's results (he still used the IHS), ended up just matching it after all that effort. Ouch.

Then again, Ryzen CPUs that use solder since the first gen was always proven to be not worth the delid effort, no surprise it's not any different now.

actually kinda make sense because IINM, the height of the IOD and CCX is slightly different. So it's risky to do direct die.

Yup, but this Chinese guy already did even more than der8auer did, even sanded down the dies so that it's level. So to only see 4C difference is very disappointing.

Once again I repeat, don't update BIOS until AGESA 1.3.0 is out.

5600X > 5600G. Explains the lower cost to the main Zen3 CPU.

Also, as a comparison with the 11400, 5600G has a faster GPU but performs worse overall when using a discrete card. It doesn't make it a worthy buy for gaming systems where folks are holding on to integrated graphics while waiting for RTX prices to drop.

Renoir isn't even that competitive in gaming benchmarks versus Zen2 desktop CPUs.

My thoughts - the fat L3 cache on the 5600X makes most of the difference in gaming.

Well yeah, as ive mentioned, amd is all about those cache. Take em away, the cores are pretty weak for a 7nm.

they just seem to be clocking ~150-250MHz lower in average. be it single core or multi core. even with ramped up power targets and curve oc they settle in at a lower point as neither is as fruitful as expected.

an optimized 5700g slightly outperforms a stock 5800x in eco mode in cb r20.
in sc it roughly matches a stock 5600x after curve OC.
