I feel like an utter noob.

I bought a d-link KVM-121 today but it doesn't work. Why? Because there is no "keyboard" connected at the xbox end of the cable. OMG. gg. It won't allow me to switch if there's no keyboard detected.

And what's worse the maximum resolution the damn thing can go for the PC was 1024 x 768. Any larger and the screen won't fit. I don't think i can return this can I, because technically it IS working but just not for the Xbox.

Can someone tell me, how you guys switch between PC and Xbox for your monitor and speakers? Besides from the obvious switch cables la....i mean which KVM you guys use etc.

It is rare.. but it is better to buy a strictly video switch, in your case... the resolution at 1024x768 is mostly a problem with the monitor/display not the kvm switch. VGA RAMDACs would usually able to power resolutions exceeding 4Mpixels...even exceeding 3007wfp resolution (if it ever support vga input).

perhaps you can buy a usb to ps2 adapter just to supply power to 2 of the ps2 ports on the xbox side..might/might not work.

I dun understand this either. The xbox is set at 1280 x 1024 and its fine through the KVM switch but when using the PC, the screen doesn't fit. Direct connection from monitor to PC of course no problems.

I never expected the KVM switch to be so smart to detect if your keyboard is there for it to be able to switch. The shop i got it from also said it should be able to work. cry.gif

correction - vga switches are not rare, but the digital switches are...

get a digital switch(rare) if possible... VGA manual switch are cheap (made in China)and widely available.. but quality is so so... and if you are dealing with sub 1M pixel res. should be adequate..

when the manual switch contacts has worn out.. just get another..

Yes same guy. cool2.gif

I'm using a laptop as my CPU btw...so i only have a audio out. sad.gif

I guess i have no real "cheap" solution. KVM has too many problems like resolution and switching problems.

Best is to buy new monitor or new LCD/Plasma TV which i cannot afford. sad.gif

i used a dlink kvm last time. must plug the kbd/mse into a pc for it to switch correctly. when i started using 360 on vga, i had to plug kbd/mse into a 2nd pc for it work. the pc must be powered; doesnt matter if its off/on but must plug in to power jack so that the KVM detects the standby voltage from the p/s2 plug... or else it wont switch.

the pc output had some fuzziness.... i had to adjust some timing setting (in nVidia ctrl panel) to fix it. output from 360 no problem (used 1280x1024).

Cheap solution --manual vga switch, brand new around RM 20 or less, got one 2nd hand one for RM3 ... manual 15 pins contacts switching

how cheap do you want to go?... vga cable with female to female extension head for manually switching wires without going to the back of the monitor?

I'm already doing that currently. Was hoping the KVM would be a 1 button push solve all my problems solution. sad.gif

Do they still sell manual VGA switches?
