 Macbook soundcard, can i put a 5.1 speaker on it..?

is there any soundcard in macbook c2d 2.0?


i wish to buy a 5.1 speaker for my mac but dunno it can support or not..

or i have to buy 2.1 speaker..?

it is just stereo...
but i m not sure if the optical out supports 5.1...
havent got the hardware to test it...

actually i intended to use MacMini / MacBook as my entertainment unit, however there's no indicator of it being able to support surround sound. sad.gif

It says DTS supported. So you have to give it a try.
I've only seen one optical in capable speaker in KL, which is Logitech Z5300 that cost over RM1k.
Else you can get something like Griffin Firewave.

the plug is kinda hard to find it in malaysia...
i got it online from ebay...
but u can still try asking arnd the audio shop...
from my experience...most of them dont even know hwat mini toslink is...
all they know is the standard toslink...

i think u should be able to use the speaker but dun think can get the 5.1 result.. maybe just normal stereo...

he's asking for 5.1 ..
u either get the adaptor to decode the DTS
or get external usb like the grifin firewave

maybe i'll give up to buy 5.1 and plan to get a 2.1...

now the question appear again,
how's the result when 2.1 put on macbook?
was it satisfied?

demon,
after digging out some cables from my cable storage i found two optical cable which suitable for macbook. tested.
i remembered i bought it from jln pasar ard 5 years ago and i have the sony one too.

(all picture taken using isight under lowlight condition)

so far the only way it can work once u link the sound to amp to decode dts with optical receiver. or any speaker with optical input and DTS decoder
