Sorry to hear that, but fortunately that your wife is safe.

No matter how good your security tint is, if there's a will there's a way.

No.. if there's a will, there is a way but you need time. There is no time in smash and grab and that is what security tints are made for. Read the post again, wife was in the car, therefore this was a smash and grab and not an overnight break-in. Security tints can't stop break-ins but will stop smash and grab. Unfortunately in his case, the security tint was fake as this would not happen with a proper security tint.

People...remember to get security film tint....My Savvy got smashed last Friday on Passenger front seat...robber tried to grab my Wife's handbag.

I install some CoolWorld tint. Good thing is , when smashed, the glasses shattered but didn't fly off (thus minimize injury from flying glasses debris). My wife didn't get hurt thanks to this.

Bad news is, once the glass shattered (still stick to the security tint), the thing will be too heavy and fall down....so i think no matter how thick your film, the glass will still fall down....

Just to share.

I think my security film is 4mm-6mm gua...can't remember.

Sorry to hear about this as it is clear that the security tint that you had was no more than a normal tint. This should not happen to security tint if it was a smash and grab. How many blows did the glass hold up to or was it just one smash and the whole thing was gone?

A friend of mine is looking for security tints now and I cannot recommend anything other than Llumar as there is no way to prove that other products work. They may claim security tint but there is no way to test it.

According to my wife it took a few blows to break it. Where to tint this Llumar? Just curious i look at it, no matter how thick your tint, the glass will sure shatter.....how can it be unbreakable?? In my case, the glass fall down after a while....because all shattered, the weight pulls the film down....i don't see how the tint can stay erected when all the glass are shattered.....gravity mah...

btw, the robber didn't get my wife's bag...my wife pull the bag, roibber pull bag handle...he got away with the handle when the handle breaks....LOL.

It won't be unbreakable but if installed properly, can withstand quite a number of blows and when it shatters, it really holds the shattered glass together so that it does not roll off the window frame the way yours did. This is how security films are different from normal tint. Normal tints don't hold all the glass after it shatters. Bits and pieces are still stuck to it but like you said, it becomes soft and it flops out of the window frame. Security films are actually bonded on the window so that the glass sticks to the film even when shattered.

and then of course there is the age old question of .. how do we know it works? We don't know other than just following the reputation of the film and from whatever demos they can provide.

exactly, other chicken brands may have the thickness (6mil and what not) however does the film strength is capable of holding the impact/keep the shattered glass together?

From what I have gathered, it is not the just thinkness of the film but the bonding process that also contributes to the strength. Even for normal non-security tint, you can break the glass but most of the time the film is still in one piece. It is the glass falling off the normal tint that makes it flexible and flop out of the window frame. This does not happen to a security tint because they are suppose to bond the film onto the glass and this keeps the whole piece of glass rigid even if it is shattered. If I'm also not mistaken, due to the bonding process, security tints cannot be applied to front and rear windscreen. If they use the same film for front/rear and sides and claim it is security tint, it might not be the real thing.
