Greetings all ,

I'm in need of second opinion here, whether to get myself Mac OS or Windows product , in a sense of software development .

My work is all about web based application(and I got decent company laptop for it),but I realise my passion was into native mobile apps .

I did android before , and I never had chance to do iOS apps ever since .

Now back to my q,does developing in Mac OS is better than windows,to satisfy both my work + passion ?

Thanks in advance .

If you're thinking of coding for iOS native apps, you will need XCode which is only available in Mac OS.

P/S: I used both OS for programming and still leaning towards Mac OS as this will support both Android and iOS development.

if you know any good recommendation, which one to buy?

I'm thinking MacBook currently ,instead of imac for mobility-wise .

Since this is would be my first mac machine,i prefer to try on second hand first,budget-constraint .

if so,which MacBook would be good for this?

is it MacBook Air?or Pro?

Osx is cool .

But

1. Interface way to simple, it's for noobs not for power user. For me, i'm keep using the terminal instead of GUI.
2. If you used .net,you might heard nuget or php call composer or linux call yum,apt-get. But in osx something call homebrew..
3. You need at least min 8 GB ram. But still when i do testing, open XCODE, open terminal, open emulator allready max 4GB.. sad.gif

For IOS app

1. Please make sure you focus on 64bit OS thing like minimum iphone 5s or ipod touch 6th gen.
2. For payment gateway apple pay at least need a minimum iphone 6 or apple watch..

But still in both environment

1. MAX all you ram if you have. Iphone may max 2GB ram while google pixel may have 4GB ram.. So 16GB ram pc/mac way to go now for long term.

For IDE,

I'm using Visual Studio Code for OSX,windows to build react-native and test in mobile. Kinda long of missing part in Cordova. React-Native far from
perfect and it's documentation is dumb.. I also mean time, making new simplify sample for my reference and other people reference as well.

Windows
1.It's cool but still you cannot develop on iphone apps.

Linux
1. I prefer ubuntu currently, old times prefer fedora.

Thanks for your insight .

I did use Ubuntu 14.04 before for development , but my company restricts me from doing projects on Ubuntu. For what reason I have no idea .

Ever since ive been stuck with windows .

From your post, you strongly recommend getting any MacBook with 16gb for long term use .

How about type of MacBook?would MacBook Air better?Or MacBook Pro?

Thanks .

I guess if you have to, go for the MacBook Pro 2016 13" non-touchbar should be sufficent for programming use. If can increase the RAM to 16gb for future proofing as you can't upgrade it later. But still have to deal with the 2 USB Type C port only. Else, for 2nd hand machine, try to get a 2015 Macbook Pro (MF840). Planning to get that as well. smile.gif
