Not necessary.
I purchased all my watches at retail. You just need to show that you are serious buyer and not a flipper. I managed to score my AP ROO Diver just end of last year even though it is a wait list item. Previously I was offered Daytona and Submariner at boutiques.
Did you buy many watches from said boutique? I probably look at buying a serious watch every 10 years or so. My first being a Tag. A pretty run of the mill CV2010, but I love the face of the watch, and it’s association with cars and F1.
I don’t see how one can buy so many watches from a boutique unless you’re (a) rich or (b) hobbyist/flipper.
Cool for you. I do want to experience the no date Sub C, alas no such opportunity and I’m inclined to buying at the boutique for the experience.
The 5167A piqued my interest, because of the Arabic numerals, and at that RRP, I would seriously want to put it on my wrist and see if it speaks to me, and if yes, buy it and cut that strap to fit my wrist cause I buy my watches to wear.
Nautilus does nothing for me, as I prefer the 15400 over it, I think the RO is the more masculine and iconic design of Genta, although the 15400 is a derivative of his design and not true to his design. Which then the 5167A makes perfect sense for me in my imaginary collection alongside a 15400 with its Arabic dial and rubber strap, and a case inspired by the Nautilus. One with a stick dial, and another with Arabic. One on bracelet, one on rubber.
