QUOTE(soul_fly9900 @ Mar 20 2017, 01:04 PM) I'm curious though, anyone actually try or owned both xb271HU and x34a. Wondering which actually gives more satisfying gaming experience 165hz or 34" 100hz ultrawide, if money is not issue and you have a juicy rig. From 60Hz to 100Hz (as in the case of the X34a), there will be very noticeable "smoothness". From 100Hz to 144Hz, the "improvement" will not be too noticeable for "normal" folks. Can't comment about 165Hz though. In any case, XB271HU is not ultrawidemaster This post has been edited by richard912: Mar 20 2017, 01:14 PM

Haha in my case anything will be an upgrade though, using a dell u2311H with no hdmi port and also ati5870 since 2010. So in short, ultrawide gaming monitor is the dream monitor to aim for?

Feedback from reddit, unless you're FPS hardcore player ( aka CS:GO pro ), 75Hz-100Hz are more than enough even for normal COD/BF player.

Some developer like Blizzard actually cut Overwatch's 16:9 picture into 21:9 ( with much lesser FOV ) and call it a day ( not sure if change now )

There is no "correct" answer to this. 100hz to 165hz is absolutely noticeable to me. But I've asked many to participate in a "blind test" where I do not tell what the refresh rate is set to and most actually cannot tell the difference between 100hz, 120hz, 144hz and 165hz apart. In fact some actually perceive 100hz to be the most 'natural' refresh rate. Convention wisdom says that the higher the refresh rate, the better. If money is no object and the rig is capable, why not just get the best? Reality is however; most people have a budget constraint. Getting a 165hz monitor without a rig to push it is pointless and the opposite is true as well. Getting a 1080Ti to play at 1080p60 is equally a waste of money.

Pro Overwatch players as I'm sure you know play at 144hz with all settings at minimum. Same for CSGO players, same for UT players. My personal sweetspot is 100-120hz, anything more is not distinguishable enough for me.

QUOTE(antaras @ Mar 18 2017, 05:31 PM) On to monitors, am wondering should I change to acer predator xb271hu. Am using LG29UM57 now. I like the ultrawide but in the other hand I really wanna try 144hz and Gsync. Just not sure if getting xb271hu now will be a wise decision or not. I don't have the XB271HU but I did used and enjoyed the XB270HU. There IS a difference between 100hz and 144hz, but like what others has mentioned, you really need to be playing specific games on powerful rigs to take advantage of that, such as competitive FPS and racing games. After using the X34A, I don't think I'll ever go back to 16:9 anymore for that extra 44hz. I say go for the 21:9 1440p monitor. Unless you play a lot of SC2 and Overwatch.

Unless you demand ALL ULTRA setting for all new games, GTX1070 still ok. Even all ultra and you're getting 40-50fps, with G-sync it's still bearable ( at least for me ) Let's wait 38" 3840x1600 become mainstream
