Pauline Tan has the scoop -
1.6 Turbo - RM135,404.63
2.0 Dynamic - RM124,237.09
2.0 Executive - RM119,899.29

Specs look good, but the pricing not so much... People will compare against the market leader Honda Civic, and I'm not sure if Hyundai can sell well with that price... Only time will tell smile.gif

According to the Trainer, this Elantra 1.6 Sport = Civic SI in USA...  0-100km/h in 6.8 secs...  FC 6.5l/100km...

Yeah, but this is Malaysia. Most people don't look at that tongue.gif very hard to change Malaysian's mindset about Hyundai... So unless they price it cheaper, I don't think I'm gonna see it much on the roads...

Relax guys... the car was just launched in 9 June - same date as the Honda Civic the previous year. It took about 2 weeks for the Honda Civic to be delivered to the customers, so those who really booked the Hyundai Elantra would only receive their cars next week I guess, due to the launch date was too near with the Raya holidays.

I think we will start to see a few of the new Elantras on the road at the tail end of this month.

Incidentally - anyone in this thread actually booked the Elantra? Or is everyone waiting for a discount - the Ioniq is still selling at RRP...

You mean second hand 1 or 2 years old? The discount for new Elantra Sport is never going to drop to that levl.
*
He's hoping Hyundai will pull a VW - like the "Drop Everything Sale" that they had last year.

I doubt Hyundai would be foolish enough to do that and screw all existing owners...

QUOTE(Ginny88 @ Jul 10 2017, 11:12 AM)
Lets see how the Elantra Turbo compares with other C-segments.

1) Mazda 3 high spec vs. Elantra Turbo
Mazda 3 HS has GVC, anti-collision smart braking, electronic brake, adaptive LED headlights, navigation, better quality interior. Elantra has smart boot, HID headlights, rear aircon vents and slightly more legroom at the back. Feature wise they are very well matched.

The Elantra turbo has more power but DCT may be a maintenance worry for some. If you are not a pickup junkie the 2.0L engine of the Mazda 3 should be good enough.

If they are priced the same it would be a toss up. But the Elantra turbo costs RM5900 more than the Mazda 3. With the substantial price diff most buyers will opt for the Mazda 3 HS. If they need another push they only have to look at the Elantra's red leather and they will be thinking, "How much will it cost me to replace this?"

2) Honda Civic 1.5TC Premium vs. Elantra turbo
No need to compare in detail here. The Elantra turbo is priced a few hundred ringgit more than the Civic 1.5T Premium. Most buyers will opt for the Civic due to its branding and resale value.

3) Jetta vs. Elantra turbo
Both cars appeal to those who love fast pickup so will the Elantra turbo with more power attract buyers away from Jetta? The problem again is price. The Jetta Highline is priced RM1900 less than the Elantra but with VGM used to throwing large discounts it is likely to be substantially cheaper. There is also 3 trims to choose from in the Jetta with the Jetta Trendline RM22K less than the Elantra and that is before discount. Price will sway the Jetta buyer and besides, 265Nm torque against 250Nm isn't a lot of difference.

4) Peugeot 408 e-THP/ Ford Focus 1.5 Ecoboost vs. Elantra turbo
Pricing isn't the deciding factor here. 408 and Focus buyers go for Conti driving dynamics, interior quality and brand appeal and are unlikely to go for a Korean car.

So essentially the Elantra is not priced to succeed. It would have a chance if it is priced below the Mazda 3 HS but now it is destined to be a niche player in the C-segment market.
*
Jetta - a non-starter for most buyers in Malaysia. I would say, for the most part, the real rivals for the Elantra would be Civic & Mazda 3 - kesian Altis not even in your list... Elantra Sport would need to be priced at RM10k less for it to be more appealing to the buyers in this segment. For that kind of cash, most would opt for the Mazda or Civic hands down.

Quite a number of people buying the previous gen Elantra (1.6 & 1.8) due to price throw. Still none of the new Elantra has been delivered (that I could find) yet. I wonder why...

CBU for now, when CKD, price and kit list should get more competitive.

I thought the new Elantra is already CKD from Kulim?

I could be wrong, but none of the local automotive site clearly states that it is CKD.

laurateoh can help us confirm?

It was stated at the end of the article, "It shouldn’t be long now before the CKD locally assembled Elantra AD makes its debut". Well... Can't be 100% sure that the first few units are CBU, and the rest would be CKD. But the Ioniq was CKD from the get go.

To qualify for EEV, it must be CKD right?
*

Although no direct telling, the qualification for EEV is a giveaway that it is likely to be locally assembled. I stand corrected  tongue.gif

Car in the dealership!!! Done the pre-delivery inspection, waiting for JPJ paper work to drive the car home.

Probably second car in the area. The Raytech shop I went just tinted one 2 days ago.
*
Gratz! Do put up your initial driving thoughts of ownership & car pics - and enjoy the looks/attention from other people! It's an experience only those who receives brand spanking new cars (or any supercar) will get to know smile.gif

Heard delivery started from Thursday or Friday last week.

1) I decoded my VIN, the chassis is made in Ulsan, Korea. Looks like someone is right about the SKD. We have 17 digits VIN, didn't show the month.

First 3 = KMH, 10 = H, 11 = U

https://en.m.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Ide...undai/VIN_Codes

2) Car need 4.5L engine oil. Isn't this uncommon for such a small engine. Free service is part + labour, written in the voucher.

3) Annoying, we have the generic owner's manual. It is PITA to read, so many if conditions. The US folks have one specifically for their variant.
*
Do you mind sharing the last 3 digits of your chassis? A range is also ok e.g. below 050. Just wondering how much is already out.

4.5L is quite a lot considering even the Elantra 2.0 uses 4L. The Civic 1.5T uses 4L.

Civic is also using generic manual - I think it's normal since both Elantra and Civic are both global models.

Chassis is made in Korea, don't think you able to trace this way. Last 6 digits, 400K+.

I'm quite messy, unable to put up nicely sorted information like you did. I'm really impressed with the first page in Civic club. Nice archive of all the problem history. I would leave that to more capable person.

Meanwhile having some fun with "jackripper" turbo theory.

Just shy of 2500.
*
That's quite high for a 1.6T - maybe the gear ratio is high for quick shifting. In comparison with the Civic CVT, it's 1800rpm at 110km/h. However, you managed to achieve 17km/l even at that high rpm, so maybe it's running at an extremely lean-burn at cruise speeds.

Civic can do over 170km/h at 3000rpm theoretically, check out my gear ratio simulation spreadsheet. I think normally the ECU didn't go to highest possible ratio, else it would be even lower than 1800rpm.

I put Shell 97. I think the new fuel pretty good. Day and night different vs Caltex regarding to throttle response. Haven't try other fuel. I have my OCD about valve carbon build up prevention for direct injection, will stick to 97 at less until 95 get euro4m or euro5 standard.
*
Have you tried using Gear 7 on the manual DCT operation? If really gear 7 is at 2500rpm, then your gearing is short. I'm also using Shell - RON97 all the way. RON95 will be EURO4M by October 2018.
