I have both ASX and UT. For the past couple of weeks, I've been lucky using the portal to top up my ASX. I could use my available funds for UT but as I am a newbie in DIY UT, I am taking the more cautious approach of only allocating a smaller amount of funds into UT.

I guess once you are more confident in UT investing, eg better at gathering and reading market info, then you can always invest more aggressively.

JMHO, you can always start with bond funds / fixed income instead of jumping into higher risk equities to begin with.

Went to update my ASX passbook after going crazy with portal top ups. Since all the transactions couldn't fit onto the page, the poor teller had to print out on A4 paper. He was kinda nice, instead of just passing me the A4 printout as is, he actually took the time to cut and paste it nicely onto my book. Now, my book is almost FULL. Only a few lines left on the last page.

Started off with bumi quota allocation but tak laku. So, decided to open up but only max RM20kthat one time. How about now? Open to all for sure?

Keep an eye out for when the dividend is announced. Usually, it will be easier to open new account/top up during that time period. AS1M should announce the dividend in late Sept early Oct this year. Good Luck!

If this should happen, keep your FPX email and note the reference/transaction number. Call the portal hotline and they will investigate. Funds will be returned within 10 days (but in my case, it took 5 days).

Yup, FPX deducted from account but balance not updated through portal. This was due to some technical glitch but the portal peeps sorted it out eventually. Didn't get the units so refunded in full back to bank account.

I contacted the portal immediately when my balance did not update after receiving the successful email from FPX.
Not automatically, so you need to keep an eye out whenever you top up. Make sure funds deducted equal to units updated.
I am not sure what will happen had I not contacted them. Not too familiar with how FPX liaise with the merchants when there is a discrepancy.

Yup, the balance wasn't updated and thus was refunded. It was earlier on though so I guess they had some kinks to work out still.

Yes, you need to go directly to the bank (Maybank, Maybank Islamic, CIMB Bank, RHB Bank, Affin Bank, Bank Simpanan Nasional, Alliance Bank, AmBank, & AmBank Islamic ) / Pos Malaysia or ASNB branches to open your ASX account first. Only then can you proceed to register and top up via portal.
