As CNY 2017 is approaching, any banks ATM now dispense new note in 10 20 denomination? Last year maybank have special atm to cater for this withdrawal so no need to change over the counters. This year still have ?

I will be brutally honest to say that exchanging for new notes is a BIG WASTE of the country's time and resources, cause now in modern times like me that if I receive angpao's then I will just deposit the money before the day ends.

I don't understand why this is still an ongoing trend.

BNM just use this event to recycle old and worn out notes...

I accept your statement, but I feel that Bank Negara does not use the time of Chinese New Year to change old notes for new ones cause the supply of bank notes is on demand and can be released at anytime of the year.

I have changed a lot of new notes two years ago from bank counter and still can use for angpao purpose for few more years. Lazy to go change yearly so done it in one time
Also keep some cash note with running serial number to my grandchildren in the future.

Why still need new note? This year no balik kampung..... no jalan jalan..... no visiting ...... and don't come to my house......... scare the virus.... chances of bring back the virus or spread... so stay home only.... give digital angpow only..... TNG, Boots...etc

Although Chinese New Year (CNY) will be slightly different this year following the extension of the second movement control order (MCO 2.0), families celebrating the occasion will still want to practise certain customs to liven up the atmosphere and keep the festive spirit. Handing out angpows (or red packets), of course, is high on the agenda.

If you’re one of those who will be giving out physical angpows to household members this coming CNY, we’re sure you’ll want to get some brand-new notes for the occasion. Here are some banks that are making them available to you.

Affin Bank

Affin Bank customers who wish to get new notes for the coming Chinese New Year can now obtain them at the bank’s automated teller machines (ATMs) at selected locations nationwide instead of queueing up at the bank’s counters. Available for withdrawal until 11 February 2021, these notes come in denominations of RM10 and RM50, with all involved ATMs able to dispense both denominations.

The bank further said that the withdrawal limit per day is RM5,000, although you are also subjected to your card’s withdrawal limit and the availability of the notes in the ATMs. Here’s the full list of the Affin Bank ATMs that are offering the service.

CIMB Bank

CIMB customers will also be able to obtain fresh notes for Chinese New Year from selected ATMs nationwide. However, only new RM10 notes are available at these ATMs. If you’d like to get fresh RM50 notes, you’ll have to make your way to the ATM in Menara CIMB as this particular service is exclusive to that location. Both the new RM10 and RM50 banknotes are available for withdrawal from now until 12 February.

Note as well that the bank has set a limit on the amount that you can take out per withdrawal. Those of you withdrawing fresh RM10 notes will only be allowed to take out a maximum of RM300 per withdrawal. Meanwhile, the maximum withdrawal amount per withdrawal for customers who opt for the RM50 notes is capped at RM1,500. There is no mention of the withdrawal limit per day, but it is likely determined by your card’s withdrawal limit, as well as the availability of the notes in the machines.

Maybank

Maybank, too, is providing the facility to withdraw new RM10 and RM50 notes from the ATMs at selected locations, starting from now until 14 February. The bank did not state the maximum limit per withdrawal or per day, but you are likely to be restricted by your withdrawal limit and the availability of the notes as well.

Also, if you’re specifically looking to withdraw only a certain denomination (for instance if you only want RM10 notes), make sure to check the locations of these ATMs and the denominations dispensed before heading out to make your withdrawals. Some locations may not dispense the denomination that you want.

In line with the latest MCO standard operating procedures (SOPs), most ATMs will operate between 6am to 10pm daily. However, some ATMs situated within office compounds or bank branches may close earlier, so be sure to double-confirm the operating hours at these locations.

Meanwhile, those who are not too keen on handing out physical angpows this year can consider sending e-angpows to their families and relatives instead! Various banks – such as Maybank, Hong Leong Bank, and RHB Bank – are actively promoting the use of these digital red packets! Whichever method you choose, these angpows are bound to add some cheer to the Chinese New Year celebration this year.

Maybank ATM near my house used to have RM10 and RM50 every year. Now left RM50..... they think we very rich. Give RM50 angpow.

Now virus very powerful not yet adopt e-Angbao ? To kids they don't care the red packet they only focus on the monies inside. So if you transfer electronically to them they also happy. If they want to use fingers caress the dollar note ask their parents go ATM press out let them caress or spend.

Not all ppl are tech savvy and don’t trust financial institutions hence you will some StashAway from previous years to recycle it back

Noted. But now is 2022 seriously the red packet mean nothing to kids. Their eyes open big is the monies inside. Once they take out the dollar notes they simply throw away the red packet which is worthless to them.

Went to OCBC Premier today.... they said need to wait early February only have. Good thing is can reserve, i just give them the denomination i want, they will call me for collection when it's ready.

The source above is not official. Anyway alliance bank no new notes when I went yesterday. Misrepresentation in their advertisement flyer saying got new notes in the Saturday banking promo.

It depends on the branch actually. My Alliance branch got new notes and had 财神爷 giving angpow (toto RM1) and a souvenir.
