Im a Type 2 diabetic, not born with it but both my parents side had diabetic in all family members & some died due to that very long time ago, ever since i was a kid i do not love sweet stuff, i still end up getting it. anyway my sugar lvl is around 6-8, taking 500gm glucophage (metformin) once a day only in the morning, but i skip sometimes when im lazy lol. I manage to stay on 6-8 without taking med for 2 years for my personal reason (do not follow my steps on skipping)

Your blood sugar is actually very high at 14, my dad is at 9-12 his taking insulin once a day & 850gm 1 tablet morning & night, after medication his hovering around 7-8 if he "curi makan". So far none of us had diarrhea issues but to be fair my dad had be taking the medication since his 20s, only started insulin maybe in this last 2 years, his now near 70.

You need to start a new strict diet plan, it wont be too extreme but if you could follow this you would lose weight while at it.

- Try to stop taking white rice or rice of anytype, i know ppl would usually go for brown rice but i would skip rice all together
- No carbonated drinks (coke/100+/7up) even for fast food combo choose drinking/mineral water
- Eat 60-70% full not too full, do not skip meal.
- Never eat near sleep time
- Skip everything thats sweet (chocolate/ice cream) apart from fruits, even for drinks like milo, horlics, sirap ice, teh ice & etc etc, if you had to then choose kosong.
- Do not buy products with less sweet, or artificial sweetening
- Take more soup based food, mee/kueh teow/meehoon goreng those to replace your normal rice meal
- try to sweat more from work/exercise

After doing this awhile you would probably get used to it, its hard to begin with but most diabetics patient that could control their diet had to go thru this stage. getting diabetics this early in age means you will have to be on medication for at least another 30-40 years, you had to get things under control fast else it might damage your kidney or other parts of your body (eye, leg, hand)

Anyway here is a good news for you, you can start a fun diet plan like how i do to me & my dad. Mon-Sat no rice, Sun (curi makan day) tongue.gif, but for you i would not suggest this plan yet but try 2 weeks once to start? once you could get it down below 9-10 then you can try my "fun plan".

keep trying dont lose hope! diabetic isnt the end of day. (Please buy your self a glucose meter, so you know which food you need to avoid)
Edit:-

This is the info i get from searching
Glucophage (Metformin) is a very effective medicine to lower blood sugar and the risk of complications and death from diabetes, but it's likely to cause diarrhea for the first few weeks.

you can reverse your diabetic by taking chromium and doing keto diet, chromium you can buy at most pharmacy.

if you trust your doctor more, then its your business

chromium?

i have been watching Dr Jason Fung for a few days now. I am actually trying to fit in keto diet now. it has been a week.
but it's quite challenging and the learning curve is quite steep. not quite sure how or when and not sure whether i am doing it right.
maybe i am not achieving any ketones at all. the fat do scares me a lot.
maybe i don't need to incorporate so much fat as what they said because i still have glucose and fat to burn from my body.
i also wanna try intermittent fasting but i do not know how to do it when i need to eat metformin.

today i watch Dr Jason's videos from youtube, maybe i need to fast first then only slowly adapting keto diet? omg i am a mess.
but 1 week no rice and sugar already. no carbs. but i think i made a booboo by eating dong fen soup the other day.

i am still doing research. please explain more. i want to know how to adapt to keto while under metformin & incorporate fasting. like 24 hour fasting. thanks.

Eat complex, healthier carbs (ie brown rice instead of white ride) and cut down on carbs in general. No sugary drinks, do more exercise and sugar levels will improve.

I'm Type 1 unfortunately so all those help but still need to inject for every meal!

can share your story about how u found out and how it affects you please?

Dear all, thanks for you info but I have a problem here.

I always don't have time for breakfast and I am trying ketogenic diet. But I really don't have the time to cook in the morning and nothing to eat in the morning.

Like today I had metformin at 10am. I had lunch at 12pm. Now I dunno I wanna eat another dose of metformin right now.

I know I should eat with meal, but I don't want to eat roti.

Please advise. It is 1.19pm now. Should I pop another dosage of 850mg metformin right now?

Tomorrow onwards, should I just skip morning and eat right after lunch?

Why can't u eat yr metformin with meals?  If u only eat by 12 pm, then take yr metformin at 12 pm.

Don't take metformin on empty stomach.

If you eat keto.  Boil eggs. Keep in fridge for morning breakfast.

Hard boiled eggs keep in fridge?

Are u doing keto?

Hi, thank you very much.

I have stop consuming carbs and sugar and totally no brown rice.
but it seems like i am constipated all the time now. i shit like once a week now and always feel bloated.

i have appointment this coming Thursday and i will update u guys. my HbA1c before this was 11.
i think i can adapt to metformin now, but i just need to find the right way to eat it. because i always have no breakfast in the morning.

i think sometimes i just wait till lunch then only eat the 1st pill.
if my reading is good this thursday, i will try and ask the doctor to reduce it to 2 pills a day.

for now i just want to avoid carbs and sugar, don't spike my insulin levels...
and become more active.... i feel normal now but i always forget that i need to take medication. i keep on forgetting.
maybe because i am not used to taking meds everyday... i feel so sad when i type this.

can share with me, Mecobalamin is a brand?

and these few days.. especially at midnight, i feel nauseated. i don't know why. is it because i didn't eat carbs? is that why i can't shit and feel bloated all the time?
i tried having kopi o to trigger the bowel movement, but it doesn't work...

Hi TS,
Sorry for late reply as I'm always on the move. The feeling of bloated/gassy and nauseated are also some side effects of metformin that I had and still have from time to time. I never had constipation caused by metformin. This could be caused by drastic change in your diet. You should take a little of unprocessed carbohydrate such as brown rice or even better fruits in the morning or afternoon (never at night). Too much meat intake or lack of fibre may also cause constipation. Try your best to take something for breakfast (I sometime take just an apple or pear if I'm busy) and make your medication timing more regular.

Mecobalamin is also known as methylcobalamin, a coenzyme that helps to counter the decrease of VitB12 absorption. You can find few brands in local pharmacy. The brand I use is Live-well because they have done proper studies on their supplements.

Since you're meeting your Dr on Thursday, ask him if you can take Metformin Retard (850 ER). This will really help in reducing side effects caused by Metformin 850.

I understand your feelings when you say you are sad when typing that you have to take meds everyday. I too was very devastated when I first had to take meds and face the side effects everyday. But I had decided that this 'Diabetes' is not going to put me down. I still have many things that I want to do in life and for my family. You too must find something in life that is more important to go on for than your sorrow. Self pity will only make the condition worse. Find a way slowly to counter and control this 'condition' by changing your diet, lifestyle and attitude. Realise that there millions of people with your condition and some are very successful still and live long. I sincerely hope you take care of yourself and take control of your condition than letting it take it control of you.  console.gif

My very best to you bro.

Thank you. I will take note of the metformin retard. I am getting chapped lips too. Maybe because lack of vitamin b12..

But I am avoiding fruits at the moment.. maybe need to study low sugar fruit group..

Today is 8.8... Kidney, hormones all OK. And changing my metformin to metformin xr.

She say I can finish my current medicine, 2 x 850 in the morning. 1 x 850 in the evening. So after finish this I will eat metformin xr in the morning only.
