My institution purchased a microscope mount for teaching. This mount only accepts iphone 6/6s. The iphone has and lightning to HDMI have yet to be purchased.

As teaching budget is tight for this year, I need some feedback.

Can I use this hdmi to lightning cable?

This is cheaper than the original one which apple sells at the apple store. The iphone needs to be able to hook to a LCD monitor which will be a display for teaching. Having people taking turns to watch specimens under the microscope is a chore and waste of time. Can I charge the phone while viewing the pictures?

Second, what is the market price for a used iphone 6/6s. I am guessing used since new would be expensive. I only need the camera part as the microscope mount for the iphone is quite specific. If I can get something under RM 500, which I ma not sure is possible, then I my institution will be willing to cover that cost. I cannot get other phone brands as the camera mount is very tight. Even if there is a casing, the casing needs to be removed as the iphone is mounted very securely. The iphone needs to be able to transfer the images via bluetooth to other people's phones and will be kept in storage since it will be used specifically for teaching mounted to the microscope.

Thanks for the feedback.

not sure with a third party hdmi to lightning adapter.. But the original apple one have a lighting port besides the hdmi port where you can connect to your lightning charger while hooking up with your tv or monitor...

also for a used 16gb iphone 6 i dont think you can find one for rm500... depending on the phone condition, you might be looking around rm 900 to rm 1k++ for a used one... I suggest you could try to find used one at garage sales thread here at https://forum.lowyat.net/MobilePhonesGarageSales... As for transferring photos to other people's phone via bluetooth I think it is only capable between iphones only via airplay function... There are other work around to transfer photos from iphone to android phones like transferring via whatsapp or via cloud storage/sharing like dropbox or google drive where your students who does not have iphones can download the photos from whatsapp message or from cloud storage/sharing service like the ones that i mentioned...

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't mind a phone with bad battery if the adapter can charge while use. Even if the phone has a cracked screen it is fine with me As long as pics can be taken screen can be used and all output are shown on the monitor.

I dont suggest getting one with bad batteries, caused it might get bloated and could force the lcd display out of the phone metal frame and also could cause safety risk for you and your students... You can test the battery health by downloading apps like "Battery Life" from iOS app store to check your battery health... also dont use cracked screen one cause it you still need to interact with your touchscreen to launch your apps and etc....

Also I forgot to mention that you could create one email account like a gmail for example which are not linked to your personal stuff.... this email account can be used to create a dropbox or a google drive account for you and your students usage...

I see. Did not know that. Will get a proper nice used one then.

The phone will have its own account for teaching as it will be used all the time. There will not be any personal stuff on it. Thanks for reminding me.

Maybe instead of buying a hdmi adapter you can get a used Apple TV. You can then airplay to your monitor or tv or projector.

Isn't that more costly?
