What should I check upon buying it? I am not familiar with MBP so I hope sifus here can help me Check condition. If only minor scratches, no dings then it is worth it..

QUOTE(xtrasher_kingx @ Feb 27 2017, 10:26 PM) Hi guys, sorry if this has been asked, but I just can't find any thread on this. 1) How's the performance of the MacBook Pro 13 with virtual desktop for windows? 2) Especially the touch bar, how would it work when I'm in virtual desktop? I'm thinking of purchasing the MBP cos I got subsidy from my company, and the requirement is that it can run virtual desktop, plus my work relies heavily on MS Visio. Personally, I am using MBP 13 2011, and iMac 27 2011 as I like to take/edit photos and videos. since got subsidy, might as well get new Mac instead of Surface Pro or other Dell laptops. Cheers Time to change and yeah no Dell laptops lol

The normal one on i5 still can. Just expect full load. i7 first gen still better than current gen i5 for editing video and stuff.

QUOTE(westlife @ Apr 19 2017, 09:48 AM) actually i dun really like the usb-c port design comparing to usb-a or lighting port. the usb-c port get lose overtime, and the cable is lossly connected and every now and then i get the issue of disconnection while the cable is physically connected by just accidentaly touch the usb-c device. i don't think is the port problem. just bad assembly imo. better have it fixed asap.

QUOTE(westlife @ Apr 19 2017, 08:47 PM) It is design prob. USB-c is quite similar lighting port but lighting port is much more easier to plug in and take out. And once plugged in, it is firmed and does not come easily. USB-c when plug in must carefully point accurately only can plug in, and with this it also causes scratches easily. Even plugged in also come out easily with little movement. Lightning port is definitely easier as it was designed with that in mind, hell of a difference with usb port especially if u get too used to lightning. Usb c ports you have to look when put in however the looseness has nothing to do with the port. You will have to change the cable. Not all usb cables are make the same. Some when fits in are very loose like protruding out and some when fits in despite giving a snug fit can't charge anymore especially when you are moving with it a lot.

QUOTE(invisiblelim @ Apr 27 2017, 12:37 PM) Guys, please comment on my usage behaviour. I used to stay in office much. Therefore whenever I at office. I'll plug in the power cable all the time even the battery is 100%, I'll unplug when I go toilet, lunch and home. Is this the correct way? Don't worry about the battery. It can last over 1000 cycles and that by itself is a lot. I keep it on battery while using it at home as well.

My colleague once pull off my keyboard protector when I first got my new MBP and I was like wtf...but then I realize that I wasn't working with dirty fingers most of the time so from then on I decided not to use it and just wipe it with a damp cloth whenever it's dusty or feels grimy.

QUOTE(wufei @ May 27 2017, 07:16 PM) Background applications. Location Services Edit : Usually I only charge once a day. I did not bring my charger to office. Usage : Browser, Microsoft Office, Skype, Viber and WhatsApp whole day Runs VM with Windows need more power, this is the only thing I can't understand. Better to bring the charger and leave it in your office. So u gets to plugged in while at work and use it on battery while at home. It will help u save on battery cycles.

QUOTE(westlife @ May 29 2017, 07:41 PM) Actually I wanted to get another set of power adapter so that I do not need to bring the power adapter in and out office and home. Very troublesome and the adapters get a lot of scratches since I just keep it inside the backpack. But the adapter is really expensive. Ya. The other day I was looking at lightning and hdmi adapter for iphone to my car also so expensive ended up not so keen anymore now Anyway, if do a lot of work both at home and office I think it is better to buy another one. The adapter won't last very long when its carried around all the time and then u have to buy another to replace it plus the extra weight... If it just stays put I think adapter can last forever...

QUOTE(zeroendless @ Jun 7 2017, 08:31 AM) Not too fast. Back in April, Apple put together an unprecedented product pre-announcement to tech journalist and unveiled a refresh of Mac Pro with modular design later this year. On the same event, they hinted the Now, formally announced iMac Pro. That says, they got bigger plan for the Mac Pro. if the iMac Pro already this slick.... i can't imagine what they got under the sleeve for the upcoming Mac pro. It has to be huge! Ya, that's what I read too. The current Mac Pro is over designed anyway. It's nice but if it needs 1-2 high end video card, it is not good. Apple still needs a very powerful desktop class to be relevant even if it is only for the super users. They need it prior to the iPhone and with the huge revenues from iphone makes no sense to not maintain this market segment ever.

It is still only a minor speed bump.
Moral, no point waiting. Need it? Buy it!
If the battery is much improve this time around, it is still fine. By the time u need to replace the battery after 1000 cycles, you're going to use their best battery.. provided that their top case has nothing changed...

I have just only recently used the night shift feature in my macbook pro and iphone. It is quite pleasing to my eyes which is a surprise. I remember not liking it when I first play around with the color setting. Maybe not so much during the day time. Anyway, I set it to turn on at 10pm every night and I do found myself sleep better for the past week.

QUOTE(westlife @ Jun 25 2017, 08:55 AM) Apple updates MacBook Pro 2017 merely 8 months after 2016 released. 2016 mbp owners kind of get screwed comparing to the owner of 2017 who is paying about the same or slightly higher but getting about 25% improvement with the kabe lake chip. True. But the 2016 MBP is the first to get the newest design. Mine is the 2015 version, it is probably the longest version before a refreshed. Speed isn't much of a concern for me but the design dates back to 2012. Unless the 2017 version has a real advertised as it is battery then the 2016 is really screwed.

QUOTE(westlife @ Jul 26 2017, 09:01 PM) really more satisfactory than the 2015 one. The new MBP (2016) I can lift the lid with just one thumb but the 2015 it only goes halfway through then I have to press the bottom side to open the lid all the way up.

TM finally updated my line to 30Mbps. So I tested it with 4K video on Youtube using chrome and to my dismay the framerate lag is apparent. I am wondering if anyone with the new 13" could play 4K video flawlessly?

QUOTE(allvin @ Sep 28 2017, 09:13 AM) If for work, just pick the top spec. Your work soon can cover back your equipment and expenses, but lousy equipments will not cover back your work reputation. 2 things in mind, focus on higher ram and graphic card. Graphic card now can be omitted with the eGPU. Look at below link, sadly it's not official support in Malaysia but soon I believe here will have. Or you can get 3rd party eGPU or lazada store, it would work as well. For now, macbook or laptop can be as powerful as desktop, thanks to eGPU, of course you need extra money https://developer.apple.com/development-kit...ernal-graphics/Nice..

It is the 2nd year after it's redesigned and the MBP it is still so expensive? People were saying that prices would drop to normal like sub USD1,500 the following year.
