Need advice from the sifus here, i want to buy a MacBook Pro for my coding job more on php, html, css stuff. The 2016 mbp seems to be a good deal rm5499 256gb storage but the new 2017 mbp starts from rm5999 128gb storage.

In dilemma which one to choose.

Guys, need advise for my macbook pro with touchbar. I bought an adapter from USB C to HDMI, connect it to an Acer monitor via HDMI but somehow it is not picking up the HDMI signal.

Am I missing something? It's a cheap Rm69 adapter from Viewnet.

the problem is probably the "cheap"ness. you need to make sure what version of HDMI your monitor needs and if the adapter is transmitting that same signal.
*
the box shows that it is compatible with macbook, hmm. I'll check later what version of HDMI it is using for the monitor.

it should work nonetheless. after connect, go to display settings. is the monitor detected?

or press command+f3. shortcut for mirror and extend
*
just test on a different monitor, now it is showing pinkish color for the display. changed to another HDMI cable, tada, it works now. Just need to get another HDMI cable it seems, since i borrowed the HDMI cable from my colleague.

it only work for a while, then the actual adapter died. Now using the Apple adapter. Will return the faulty adapter to the place I bought it since got 3 months warranty. Buying a better branded adapter maybe J5Create

can invest in MBP, RM329 is nothing for you.
*
but not for an adapter sweat.gif my mistake buying the cheap non branded adapter in the first place, Baseus, Ugreen, J5Create is above Rm150 for their adapter and works well like Apple ori adapter.

Just watched the YouTube video from the official channel, it seems need to install the driver before plugging in the hub. Will try tomorrow and share the result. Haven’t tested it yet

I noticed that when my mbp touch bar is connected to an external monitor, it is slightly warmer than usual around the keyboard area.

Is it normal that gpu or cpu is running higher than usual when connected to an external monitor?

Normal. i still have my 2015 MBP and it's even worst when it comes to heat. Thing would slow down when i connect a dual mons with 4k/60z setup due to excessive heat. It could cook an egg.
*
dang, that's a bummer.

I’m only getting around 6 hours of battery life for my late 2016 mbp 13 with touchbar on moderate use. Been using it for 3 weeks now. Bought brand new from All IT as it was on discount. On papers stated up to 10 hours of battery life. I only use it mostly lite browsing and php development. Battery status shows normal. Battery cycle is only 11. Brightness is only half Bluetooth is ofg and only on wifi.

Co worker accidentally spilled 3/4 cup of water to her Macbook Pro 2017 without touchbar. Water seeps in the keyboard while it was running. Immediately she turn over the macbook upside down, and water was running through the back vents and trackpad. after 2 minutes or so the display went black.

Spotify was still running and we can still listen to music before she force shutdown using the power button. fully wiped any excess water on the macbook pro body.

She left it the whole night in a back of 10kg uncooked rice, in the morning, surprisingly it was able to power on as usual laugh.gif

I'd say go for it. the next 2 years of worry free. anything happen to your mac, apple will fix for you.
good luck.

weeks or months later, the laptop is gonna be playing tricks because of corroded chips.

judging from your description, the water definitely reaches the motherboard.
*
Well, it's not mine but already warned her in the long run there might be problem because of the water spill.

My MBP TB warranty is till 7th Oct, contemplating whether I should buy the AppleCare to extend the warranty another 2 years.

Checked at Machines website, it is selling for Rm895, any other places to get it a lower price?

Thanks

anyone upgraded to latest macos mojave? how's the performance?
*
I don't see any difference in term of performance on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) after updating to Mojave, I just found the dark mode to look really nice and the stacks feature on desktop makes my files looks properly arrange according to the type.
