It has nothing to do with Digi
It's your phone

Mi 3 is using Snapdragon 800, which is the same processor used in Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Any phones using Snapdragon 800 processor is prone to GPS signal lost as it is a bug within the processor itself
And no, this is not something that can be fixed

Snapdragon 801 fixes this issue. Even the mid end Snapdragon 650/652 can provide better & faster GPS locking

Mi3 and Mi4 have bad GPS antenna. Not sensitive enough. Nexus 5 also same issue.

I believe its the phone

My Huawei 6 Plus also have GPS problem when use with landscape orientation.
Also I cannot use any handphone cover for GPS to work properly.

Try using a different phone buddy. Preferably something with Snapdragon 810 or anything newer. Even Snapdragon 650 / 652 in Redmi Note 3 & Mi Max can provide better GPS lock

Waze works perfectly on my Sony Xperia Z2, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro & Mi 5s Plus, never had any lost of signal
Especially on my Mi 5s Plus, Waze still works even when driving inside the Penchala tunnel laugh.gif

Can i know which telco you're on when running on Mi 5s?
Cos some here says it is caused by Digi network.
Just need to confirm it's not caused by Telco, before upgrade to a Mi 5s

Does Phone casing interfere with GPS signal? Do you use any phone casing?

Any difference in spec for Mi 5s plus to mi 5s except the screen size?

Thank you

phone case, car tint is also a factor. but not much until can cause losing gps fix.

try use an apps called "GPS Test" from play store. test to see how strong is your gps reception.

perhaps its your phone location settings? click and hold your gps toggle in status bar untill you see some settings pop out.

there you should see what your device rely on to get gps fix. either it rely on telco network, gps itself, or both.

im using "battery saving" option and seems like my waze can have gps fix no longer than a minute.

my device is redmi note 3 pro on celcom. just assuming the interface is same since its running miui os icon_rolleyes.gif

Mi 5s Plus main difference with Mi 5s is:
1. Dual 13MP camera vs single 12MP Camera
2. Rear fingerprint scanner vs Front fingerprint scanner
3. The highest spec has 6GB RAM vs 4GB RAM
4. Bigger battery 3800mAh vs 3200mAh
5. Faster processor 2.35GHz vs 2.15GHz
6. Mi 5s Plus has infrared. Mi 5s doesn't

My suggestion is to test with a different phone before you decide on your purchase
Maybe borrow someone's phone to test. But as per my previous advise, look for something with anything newer than Snapdragon 800

Searched google and find this thread. Similar to me, running Waze, using MI3 with Digi network. GPS lose signal in USJ. I seldom go to Damansara, Shan Alam, PJ, so I could not verify. I also lose gps signal sometimes in klcc area. I outstation 1-2 times a month (North, South, East) but there are no problem with gps signal.

Restarting the phone does not fix the problem.
