my Windows no see my Mac
but my Mac see my Windows. so my Mac connect to my Windows and put file in the shared folder. my Mac would be connected to my network, so it'll browse the Network (click on the disk drive thing on your desktop and click on Network on the upper left side). then it will list the PCs available. so just click on the PC you want to connect and it'll probably ask for something. i usually leave it empty and it'll also allow you to choose which folder you wish to connect to. sorry, those are the steps i remember from my head. or you could just try this........ http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106471 hehe. |

I do what godfries do too. Usually i never care to connect to my Mac from XP. Cause XP's network neighborhood is a piece of crap.
If you really have to do so... 1. Before trying to connect to a Mac, make sure you know the IP of your Mac. Go to Application>Utilities>Network Utilities. There maybe a few network interface. Pick the one that connects to your network. If you dunno which one, try them all 2. Now go back to Stone Age XP. Search your Mac using the IP. Your Mac's name should appear very quickly if you got your IP right. Now your can just make a shortcut of your Mac and connect to it anytime. BTW your Mac will now appears in Network Neighborhood too. But dun get excited cause after restarting ur Windows, it won't be there anymore. Not too difficult isn't it? It is difficult! ; Compare to the way Mac connects to PC..... 1. First make sure you share a certain folder/drive in XP. Juz right click and sellect sharing. Then put a name one the shared folder. Example I'm sharing my whole D drive. And I named it "PANDUAN D" 2. Now in Mac, Press Cmd+K; "Connect to Server" will appear type this cifs://AHBENG@HOME/PANDUAN%20D It means AHBENG is your username in XP HOME is your workgroup in your XP PANDUAN%20D is your shared drive/folder ... btw %20 means space 3. Then a dialog box will ask bout key in password & stuffs.. after that all clear OR...................... In "connect to Server".... juz click browse and browse your workgroup n your username lor. Any further question, head to www.mymug.org. I dun hang around at lowyat.net often. Cheerio! PANJANG NYERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR This post has been edited by kin: Mar 6 2007, 02:45 AM |

You see by default OSX only allows you to share your home folder which is lame [Actually you can do more then that , its just that - its not bulit into the GUI. You'll have to do it by hand]
But fortunately , there is a GUI/Front-end tool that allows you to configure 'Share Points' aka enable sharing on disks , folders and stuff like that. Instead of sharing the home folder alone , now you can share an external HD , or an iPod across the network Heres the tool www.hornware.com/sharepoints/ |

I can share files from both my Mac and PC..
To view files using PC from a Mac.. you need to enable Windows Sharing in the Sharing panel in System Preferences. Then you can browse your home folder from My Network Places (under the workgroup). from windows, you can access your Mac at \\<your Mac IP>\<Account Name> To view files using Mac from a PC.. I use the SMB server connection via Finder. From finder, select "Go" > "Connect to server.." > Type in "smb://<windows machine IP or computer name>/" then press connect.. it will request for logging in (when Windows is set to request for password to share files) and select a shared folder to mount it on the desktop.. A little troublesome, but it get things done.. |
