Hey guys, I wonder does anyone have the same experience with me before. I broken my right leg fibula bone and my ankle was fractured last year April and undergo multiple surgeries. I have one plate and some screws on my fibula bone and same on my ankle.

I started to full weight bearing last week,12 weeks after my recent surgery, but the pain is bad. And these few days it just got swollen. I wonder is this normal?

Physio said there is no need to use the crutches anymore so I did not use them but I'm not sure whether this is actually too fast and eventually it swells.

I already keep on putting ice and elevate my leg when I sleep, is there any other way that can help to reduce the pain and reduce the swell?

Yes I told them that doctor said I could full weight bearing now and that is why they just ask me stop using crutches. When I was trained to walk, they said definitely will be pain and that is why I just continue walking as usual but these few days it started to swell and pain doesn't seems to subsidise. Maybe I should be more patience? Lol

did not have something as bad as that but i did dislocate my ankle. after crutches is taken off, you need at least 3 months before it goes back to full recovery. if in your case, it might be longer?

Hmm,well, I was told the same by the doctor that it needs at least 3 months to get back to a more normal state. But now whenever I walk, the pain is killing me and not sure is it I'm too fast to walk without crutches. Lol. It is not only pain on my ankle, but basically the heel, the foot bone. And it started to swell and the feeling of tingling and numbness are back again. Probably because I walk too much?

it is possible. if you don't mind me asking, how did you break your leg? prob your bones can't take the whole body weight just yet. for one, you might need to adjust the way you walk. honestly i am not too sure. I did the mistake of jogging one month after taking the cast out. bad idea. my left knee is injured and it's not the same anymore. my right ankle eventually healed and strengthened with time so I actually brought the pain to myself from impatience.

keep elevating your leg. ice it? my doc called me to put my foot in cold water and leave it there. the swelling should go down. in your case for a whole leg, i'm not sure what the doc would say.

Oh, I fell down from stairs 😐. lol and was badly injured. My fibula bone dislocated quite serious and my ankle fractured too. Hmm, i was told by the doctor that no jogging for at least 3 months. I'm kind of impatience too lol. I've not been walking very long about half year and I believe this is also one of the reason it is so pain now. Probably I should try cold water too. I remember when I first injured and need to reduce the swell before surgery ,I put my foot into the cold water and it really works faster than putting ice. I try to use crutches or wear an aircast at home but when I go to work I wear normal flat shoe and an ankle support. Not sure whether the shoe does matter or not?

Yeah, I thought I sprained my ankle but unfortunately it was a bad fractured. Lol. 45mins for an ambulance? That's pretty long. I rmb last time I called bomba to capture a rare animal in my room that can climb and it takes about an hour for them to come. Hahaha. Doctor said any shoe is fine but I felt like my foot is very pain maybe because I have a high arch foot and has been a long time I nvr walk and it brings a lot of pressure on my foot. Well, I don't really walk at work but because I take public transport to work so it has some walking distance to my office. People take 5-10 mins to walk and I roughly take 15-20mins to walk lol. 😅 Have you gain back your ankle flexibility after three months?

that long wait was because i want to go private hosp and frens called govt hosp, so the confusion there and thus the longer wait of suffering. that is a lot of walking for you. I guess everytime you are done walking, you need to relax the stress on it. as in, prop it up, ice it or something like that. at office would be more difficult and inconvenient but you need to keep doing that till you feel better. I guess the lesson from this is don't take life for granted and take things slow? I def don't take my body's condition for granted ever since. when i make my foot go in circles, you def will hear cracks and the usual pop. I am back to futsal thankfully but after one hour, i can feel my leg feeling bengkak in my shoes and then gradually lose strength and mobility. However, got to be thankful walking, running and kicking still possible.

Yeah, I definitely learn a lesson after my injury. Hmm I think probably swollen is quite normal then after fractured. Seriously this is a tough journey as even recover already , still suffering from all these "side effects". I've waited for almost a year for the doctor to tell me that I could full weight bearing but seems like still long way to go for the full and stable recovery. ☹️

don't give up. just keep watching yourself. stay positive. give me a PM if you need someone with similar experiences to talk to. in the mean time, find something that wont use your legs to exercise or work out. it's better to heal slow than to not heal at all. good luck!

hi. hope the surgery was a success. for the next one month u will need crutches for sure. Once the cast is out, then you can slowly put weight but you won't find a lot of movement till at least 6 months. i am putting it longer so you wont pressure yourself and risk a bad healing period.

hey. ya surgery was a success. have one metal bar and 2 screws. I bought the old ppl tongkat. easier to use than crutch. my friend lend me his when he was suffering from knee injury. once I can put some weight, I'll use those crutch.

I find it tough to balance on crutches, so I bought old ppl tongkat.

that might not be comfortable in the long run. try the ones where u put your whole arm through the support for the crutch instead of under armpits. those are tiring. if u are using the old man ones, guess u should spend more time sitting and resting.

I have both. The old one, and whole arm. I didn't buy under armpits. Unstable and dangerous to use. The old ppl one is for stability. Once my feet can hit the ground, I'll use the whole arm one. My friend lend the whole arm to me while I bought the old ppl one. I don't expect myself to move so much already. Just in bed, and during meals. And some leg day exercise to boost my thigh energy.
