Actually, I like both A119 and A119S...

A119 for the 1440p resolution and A119S for the good night vision of the Sony Exmor sensor...

Very hard for me to decide...

tough, i can't really see from your videos, but does the 1440p resolution on the A119 really make a big difference in number plate legibility over the A119s?

It will depend as some prefer higher resolution of the A119 1440p 30fps and some prefer higher fps which the A119S have in 1080p 60fps.

A silly question, did you view in higher resolution like 1080p 60fps for the A119S or 1440p for the A119 and in full-screen mode?
Attached Image

Here is a bit of info I found from carcamcentral about 60 FPS

QUOTE
60 FPS

I also want to bring attention to claims that 60FPS reduces motion blur or are sharper. That is not true. It’s shutter speed which determines how sharp an image is.

60 FPS means each second is divided into 60 frames. Each frame has a max shutter speed (how long the camera lets in light) of 1/60th. However, the shutter speed can be much faster let’s say 1/5000th of a second every frame.

This is why during the day if you freeze frame 30FPS video, the license plates are sharp because the shutter speed is very fast. At night there is less light so the camera can compensate by either slowing the shutter speed to increase light or bump up the ISO which increases noise.

I've yet to compare the A119 and A119S with the latest firmware released in May 2017...

Yes, in full screen. Personally, I am in the camp where I feel there is no need for 60fps. 30fps is enough to show smooth movement especially to capture how an incident has happened - which is what I think a dashcam is for in the first place.
Sharpness/clarity of details is what is required next to show things like number plates, or even the face of a roadbully/thief/vandal that has come close enough to your car to do things that shouldn't be done.
Then of course these very same factors, in low light situations, which makes it even more important.

Then I think the A119 will suit you more... Because the A119S is not a major upgrade from the A119. Just another variant.

There are some that say the A119S's night video is not that great but I think that maybe can be improved with future firmwares.

A119 is cheaper than the A119S. That's why.

Both also got firmware updates. v3.4 for A119 and v2.2 for A119S.

A119 v3.4 still don't have the HDR features yet. Maybe got issues with the v3.4 beta testing.
