There are studies proof that academic excellence does not promise or guarantee good student. Sometimes EQ is more important than IQ. Study has done at harvard n has found many student with good EQ despite bad IQ usu have better future n qualification . What's the ppoint of having inteliigence student despite not knowing how to handle emotion n social with person? Todays worls require more cooperation. To me, one inteligence is one potential whereas to control emotion n social is a skill

How's Selayang hospital? I heard it's a paperless hospital, true?

Yes, every information lies at the computer. U also can check up ur previous patient n it is easy to check up at any time. However, there is one day, where the whole computer system is jam, in which a lot of operation n also proceudre or imaging has to be delayed

of course, that is why they also conduct tests of personality and amplitude in the selection process......

the point remains, there are MORE than enough potential candidates with very high scores AND the right applitude (what you called eq)........so why choose from those with poor results?

in other words, the FIRST and FOREMOST criteria MUST be the intellectual ability....then from this group, choose the most suitable applitude wise.......

arguing that someone thought to have the 'eq' to be a good doctor can be one, in spite of poor academic records just doesn't cut it..........not in developed countries anyway.....but as can be seen, many here seems to support this reasoning.......that i suspect stems from the fact that there are indeed a lot of medical students in msia and other 3rd world countries, who would never have even been shortlisted in the developed world.....they are in because of connections, money, affirmative programmes.......etc......

these are facts..... shakehead.gif

ter 90 would generally be considered the minimum cutoff.....

imu was 94 last year, 91 this year.......but apparently like monash as someone said in another thread, they will kick you out just like that if you don't make the cut.......last year's batch, 40 got kicked down (repeat 1st of 2nd sem) or out.......

Yes, there shall be balance of EQ n IQ. However, it is not so easy to assess EQ compare to assess IQ because IQ can just simply take from how many score u have. However, not all those high grade does really have high IQ because u know a lot of us just do memorize more rather understanding. Still, i believe there shall be kuota for male n female. My batch was so many girl, that sometimes we have to listen them althought their idea is just simply rubbish. Majority win, huh..? biggrin.gif

Hello all,

Fascinating thread.
I just have a question- where's the best place to buy medical textbooks around the kl/subang/sunway/pj area? The reason I ask is because I'll be going back for a short holiday before med starts, figured I'd save a wad of cash and buy books back there instead.
Thanks heaps  smile.gif

I'll recomend u at Kamal Bookstore just infront of HKL near bulatan pahang. Honestly, they can sell u more cheaper once bargain

It is about COMMITMENT n RESPONSIBILITY. Not only there is abundaca fact u need to grab. Even if u are the best medical student in ur university, that does not guarantee ur are good doctor, as good doctor need to have good morality n also establish good relationship (good social skill n teamwork) as doctor require cooperation from many hospital staff n most n foremost imprt is to put our carreer at upmost priority more than what u like. Thus, it is time to say good bye to ur ps3, friends (who often have easy life, when they got holiday, we still study) to ur boyfriend, etc. Being a doctor is life long study, even u finish ur universities, u need to further improve n keep update ur knowledge, as the knowledge that u gain in medical school is only THE BEGINNING. So, dont get an idea once u finish medical student, ur hardship life end there, indeed it is only the beginning of hardship life!!!! N once u begin as doctor, ur mind, almost everyday will keep thinking of ur patient, dream of ur patient, because of the burden of responsibilty to keep patient stable at the best condition. Ur mind will keep thinking patient, patient, patient, patient.......The only thing that can made u survice it is ur interest. U dont have interest, than forget about it. Even if u loss interest in medical school in which many my friend has, still u need to pretend to be a hypocirte to be interest in medicine.

As for a female, warning, ur saham will go down.

Hahahaha.....i wish my statement does scare u. Please, think twice or u all regret like us now tongue.gif

Wah seriously I love that bolded statements... We are the best hypocrites out there... everyday must wear mask to hospital.. wear mask in front of consultants, wear mask in front of registrars, wear masks in front of our own competitive, aggressive, kiasu peers... tongue.gif

About the regret/non-regret part... well, I can't really say whether I'll make the same choice again if given the chance (coz sometimes it really sucks), but there are good times. Seriously. Esp since I've examined a sexy patient in outpatients this morning and it went well.
By that I assume you meant "scholarship"?

The most hypocrite thing is that some doctor has 2 personality. When approaching patient, so polite but when comes to home, everything become havoc biggrin.gif

As long u are sincere to urself, im sure u will find medicine is an interesting carrerr. It becomes boring when u are not sincere, when suddenly think about materialistic issue such as how to get money, buy car, from there, u'll find ur life start boring. Anyway, dont worry, u will find a man that suits u as long as u dont choose to stay lonely as ur hobby tongue.gif

n anyway once u get medical degree, what interesting about medicine is that u have a wide choice to choose what to specialize. If u are not interested in clinical in future (who know...) u can choose to radiologist, microbiologist, anatomist, pharmacist, pathologist or u can open bussiness that related to medicine such as sell medical equipment or sell medical books. There are many field that can be explored in medicine if u are not interested in clinical..
