But according to my seniors, 1st and 3rd year are the toughest. 1st year is tough cause of the packed up timetable, 8 to 5 everyday. And 3rd year is because of the transition from preclinicals to clinicals. also because of the packed up schedule, 8 to 12 hospital attachments, 2 to 5 lectures at the campus. lol. I think they are quite true.

And nope not yet, am currently finishing 1st year. Basic clinical skills will be taught on 2nd year as we're learning by systems. Probably now what i know is the regions we can use the stetoscope, but not yet using it. Few more months to go, and i'll have my very own stethoscope i guess. OSCE starts from the 2nd yer. wink.gif

Ah...I see, whats your uni?

I guess its based on how the uni conducts is teaching. For my uni, we learn the body systems for 5 semesters before taking a year of research and another 5 semesters doing clinical rotations.

My contact hours for semester 2 ranges from about 10-20 each week, which is very relaxing...but the unis wants us to a lot of self-directed learning.

I had an OSCE on history taking last semester and this semester it would be GIT exams. :-)

So, its very different from your uni, which is which why I say that the pre-clinical years are the easiest.

Thats fun..here at UIA, we have 1 year of basic anat, physio etc, one year of those subjects according to symptoms, three years of clinicals. Classes are crammed from 8am to 5pm the 1st 2years and the n the next 3 years is 8am-5pm wardwork and we have to run off for classes in between. Its a pain. Cause by the time u get back to ur room ur burned out rclxub.gif (well, me especially..hehe) and in the end not much revision gets done. Im having fun but my brain is not getting any fuller. Haha. Wardwork is fun rclxm9.gif

lol.. its ok.. yeah.. 1st year and 3rd is quite difficult..
but if u pass ur 1st yr, u'll have no problem with 2nd year, trust me

for 3rd year, at first you'll be a bit awkward but later once u familiar with what u're doing.. then itll be easy..
ppl always said it is hard bcoz they tried to remember the steps for PE from books everytime they doing it..
but after few weeks you done it, u wont have to remeber each steps.. its all become routine edi rclxms.gif

just remember.. the best teacher for us is the patient themselves...
when entering clin years, staying in library to study is a big no-no...
get ur ass next to the patients, talk to them, practice what u'd learnt on them, u'll beat all those bookworms flex.gif

Nope, not MMMC (twinning programme), but KMC (Full course in India). Both are of different degrees.
MMMC is still recognized by Msia.
Btw, KMC has yet to be officially de-recognized by India. The final verdict lies in the hand of Indian MoH, not Medical Council of India (MCI).

Manipal students will be looked after, says ministry
BY LOONG MENG YEE

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has assured local students in Manipal University that their welfare will be looked after.

“We are concerned about this matter. If need be, we will even consider credit transfers to allow our students complete their courses at other universities,” said Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai.

Liow was commenting on the Medical Council of India (MCI)'s announcement last week that it was no longer recognising the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees offered by Kasturba Medical Colleges in Manipal and Mangalore.

Liow asked the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) to seek further clarification from its counterpart in India over the decision.

He was speaking after launching Healthylimpics 2008 organised by health-product company Easy Pha-Max Marketing Sdn Bhd here Friday.

Manipal is popular among Malaysians students. Students at the Melaka Manipal Medical College do three years of clinical training in Malaysia and two years of pre-clinical in India.

Meanwhile, Manipal University pro-Chancellor Dr H.S. Ballal said the university was surprised by the “purported” statement from MCI because the matter was under consideration by higher authorities.

“Furthermore, MCI is only a recommendatory body and does not have the power to de-recognise an institute,” he said in a press statement.

He also stressed that Kasturba Medical College (KMC) fulfilled all inspection criteria specified by MCI – faculty quality, staff strength; teaching infrastructure; hospital infrastructure; hospital utilisation; student education and care facilities.

Ballal said KMC had been consistently featured amongst the top five medical colleges in India for the last few decades.

“Over 4000 alumni of KMC are senior practising physicians in the United States. Close to 3,000 doctors in Malaysia are KMC alumni. KMC is the only medical college in India that is also recognised by the New York State Education Board,” he said.

yup, because MMMC is a Malaysian degree.

Also, both KMC manglore and manipal are still recognized. Check out the entries in IMED. The graduation years are still current.

MMMC=Manipal Melaka
Or am i practising ajaran sesat all this while? Hahaha..

Anyways...med school accreditation is sooo scary nowadays. Changes too often. Personally I think its cuz whenever thres a trend to go read medicine in a certain country, the M'sian government always pushes to accredit as many Unis from that country without proper evaluation. Then when the trend shifts to another country mula lah tarik balik accreditation and all. I used to be India cuz it was cheap until ukraine and russia became even cheaper. Then indon and now the middle east. Sigh..where next?
