Ministry of Education? Do they take in House Officers too? I've heard of it before but am not sure about it. Do housemans go under MOE? What are the job scopes den? Might be a stupid question i know, just curious. wink.gif

you can't choose where you do housemanship.........unless you have very good cables.......

Yeah, what i meant was better list the choices wisely. All fresh grads are given 3 choices if i am not mistaken. Depends on when you graduate. Most of my seniors got where they wanted (of course, Selangor is harder to get)

Well, i think chances of getting into university hospitals are slim, unless you have very long and solid cable.
However, many of my seniors got UKM and UM without pulling string. SO i guess it's all on your luck.

Haha...heard that its easy to get a housemanship stint in KL cause no one wants to go there sebab the hospitals are huge so is the number of patients so in the end ur stuck being the only one incharge of a ward of like 100 ppl...i exaggerate the figure a little of course.

hi guys! (& gals) tongue.gif

wow... missed so much on this thread while i've been away..
from wiki to quarrels to cables.. hehe..

been working for 6 weeks already..
spent the first 2 weeks tagging from 6.30am-12am, couldn't wait to go back & sleep...
kinda became a zombie by day 10.. sweat.gif

life as a HO is kinda fun, but damn tiring..
physically when you're running around getting things done..
mentally when things go wrong & you get screwed.. sad.gif

nevertheless, i believe that if you have a clear ambition about becoming a doctor...
& not just joining med school coz u scored 4.0....
then there's no prob surviving housemanship...

my colleagues who are really suffering are those who really have no heart in caring for patients...
they never really expected to have to slog so damn hard...
since their heads were kinda inflated by everyone calling them 'doctor'... tongue.gif

anyway, it's nice to have a life back...
haven't been online for weeks! rclxm9.gif

Seriously the health care system in Msia sucks big time. Bad for both patients and doctors. Sleepy doctors make more mistake than they are fully awake.

Yalah.. people sometimes can see houseman falling asleep while clerking. Their handwriting becomes like an ECG reading going from VT to asystole..haha.

How i wish i could finish my pre-clinicals fast and move on to the clinical side. Envy my senior each time see-ing them coming back from hospitals carry their own stethoscope. Haha.

I heard that the easiest part of the medical course is your first few years of basic science. When you venture into your clinical years, you have extra contact hours and even the nurses order you around and scold you....

But, haven't you been taught some basic clinical skills using stethoscopes when you're learning about lungs/respiration?

But according to my seniors, 1st and 3rd year are the toughest. 1st year is tough cause of the packed up timetable, 8 to 5 everyday. And 3rd year is because of the transition from preclinicals to clinicals. also because of the packed up schedule, 8 to 12 hospital attachments, 2 to 5 lectures at the campus. lol. I think they are quite true.

And nope not yet, am currently finishing 1st year. Basic clinical skills will be taught on 2nd year as we're learning by systems. Probably now what i know is the regions we can use the stetoscope, but not yet using it. Few more months to go, and i'll have my very own stethoscope i guess. OSCE starts from the 2nd yer. wink.gif
