Hi All,

My custom desktop has recently died on me..
Due to life changes, I think I would prefer to replace it with a laptop instead..

I used to game quite a lot using PC in the past.. But have much less time these days...

Currently, I'm thinking of 2 options:
1. Get a decent non-gaming laptop, for movies, some work stuff etc...
2. Get a gaming laptop

Practically speaking, option 1. will serve my purpose more.. However, I am used to high-end PC since long ago.. since this will be a desktop replacement, I'm thinking getting a i7 7700HQ + GTX1060 laptop would be better... Cause this way, I can game, if I want to.. Also, I don't intend to change very often (hoping it will last me at least 5 years)..

Any opinion?

Pls recommend something based on the 2 options I have?
For Option 2, my budget would be below RM6.5k..

Thanks for your suggestion

Technically, I have an ultrabook.. But it's not powerful enough to be my desktop replacement since it died on me.. (it has been very laggy since I first got it)
I'm thinking the laptop as a desktop replacement, as it is more portable, and doesn't consume as much space..

Also, it's easier to maintain... (in the past, I enjoy customizing PC, so I don't mind troubleshooting what's the problem when my PC has an issue.. But these days, I prefer just one touch point.. (i.e. if it's a hardware issue, then just get the laptop company to repair it, during its warranty period) Getting lazy... :/)

I don't think I would like to get a desktop.. So the question is, should I follow my "want" (get a powerful gaming laptop), or just follow my "need" (get a reliable non-gaming laptop).

I think models like illegear Laguna and dell 7577 which has i7 7700hq plus gtx1060 is sufficiently powerful for me to use it as a desktop replacement I think.

I acknowledge it will not be as powerful as a desktop i7, but it's likely able to compete against an i5 right?
From what I understand it's better than i7 3700k (slightly), which means it's technically still an "upgrade" for me, coming from i7 2600k desktop.

I've checked the gtx1060 laptop and it's about 90% the power of a desktop one. I think that's more than enough power in the 1080p environment given the diminishing return of performance these days?

Any area I missed out? I'm not too experienced in laptop stuff so there could be areas that I didn't look at and would be grateful if you can share your insights.
