1. Annual Income: Appreciate suggestion of credit card for annual income of <RM60k, and >RM60k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Yes (eg: free waiver after 12 swipes or so)

3. Card required for: Rough estimated usage of Petrol (RM200/month), Dining (RM200/month), Groceries (RM200/month), Movies/Online (RM100/month) - I expect an increase in online usage over next few months

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Nil.

5. Interested in CC from: Convenient banks which accept payments from maybank2u

6. Others:
Greetings all,

I have been using Debit Card all these while. Now looking for a credit card for better security. I might not need the best savings (eg: apply 2 cards, use Card A for Petrol and change to Card B for online billing), I am prefer to stick with one card for transactions.

Thank you for your recommendations.

CIMB Cash Rebate card, no fee charged, but giving cashbacks (online, groceries, etc). Good card for all general purpose use.

Thanks a bunch for your quick reply!

Speaking of which, may I just ask (out of curiousity), what happened to OCBC Titanium Cash Back card?
I searched lowyat.net for credit card recommendation long time ago (I can't really remember my previous ID - had to create new account now)... Back then everyone was recommending OCBC Titanium, and now it vanished from threads. Something changed?

I am not a sifu here but generally, for cashback, Maybank cards are the kings.
You can either try for

1) M2Card Gold (the Amex gives 5+1% cash back if used during the weekend... 5% cash, 1% in the form of TreatPoints). The cash back is capped at RM50 per month, but most of the petrol stations accept Amex, and that's RM24 per month right there. Many private universities accept Amex for tuition fee too.
2) Maybank FCB VS card (2% cash back on daily basis, plus 10% cash back for May and August - it is worth the SST even if you only use the card during May/August)

I assume you need to pay RM7k per semester for tuition fee. If the payment can not be done in May/August, you can also consider SCB JOP. It gives RM85 cash back if you spend >RM2500 at online transaction. If the payment can be done in May/August, just use MBB FCB VS to pay the tuition fee (cash back capped at RM100).

And finally, try to get BigPay card too. You can use SCB JOP to reload into BigPay over a few months, and then use BigPay to pay the tuition fee at one go.

1. Annual Income: RM90 - 100k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Yes please, don't mind swiping to get it though

3. Card required for: Petrol (less than RM150/mth), insurance, gym, F&B, movies & shopping

4. Existing credit cards (if any): MBB 2 cards, CIMB cashback

5. Interested in CC from: no preference

6. Others: Mainly looking for cashback. A lot of places don't take AMEX and CIMB rates are quite horrid. Spending about 1.5 - 3k every month on average so looking for something that's more rewarding.
*
On top of what ClarenceT said, you may also consider going for Public Bank cards. You are qualified for their Visa Signature, which offers 6% cashback on dining, online, etc (max cashback RM38 per month).
But do try to apply Maybank FCB fast, May is coming (the card gives 10% cashback in the month of May).

1. Annual Income: RM60K to RM100K (This is before any taxes right? i.e gross income)

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Preferable must. (Unless card benefit outweighs the fee)

3. Card required for:  Mostly used for petrol, dining, movies, and phone bill payments.

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Currently using CIMB Platinum Cash Rebate.

5. Interested in CC from: Not sure really. Looking for an upgrade to my existing card since I heard the CIMB Platinum Cash Rebate isnt very rewarding.

If your usage for Petrol is not high (eg: you only need to pump petrol once a week), Maybank2Card is excellent. The AMEX card effectively gives 6% cash back for your weekend transactions (5% cash back + 5X treat points). You can use AMEX for movies and some phone bill payments too.

Try to apply for Maybank FCB Visa Signature too, as it gives 10% cashback next month (May) and August. The 10% alone can cover its SST already. Maybank cards (FCB and M2Card) shares the same credit limit.

All mentioned cards have no annual fee.

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Yes

3. Card required for: tbh i don't need a card (but my colleague and boss advised me to, to build good credit score and use to collect points, and keep min cash transactions)

4. Existing credit cards (if any): No

5. Interested in CC from: No preference. Saw a post earlier saying if no prior CC, apply from the bank (CIMB) your salary goes to (but I see Maybank offers zero % installment so maybe gearing towards there)

Hmm... so you only use RM1800 per year on petrol, and around RM400 per year for Touch and Go.
In view of the SST (RM25/card), I think you can just stick to single card instead of M2Card. Do you use Petronas? MBB PETRONAS Ikhwan Visa gives 8% cash back when you spend at Petronas (weekends only).

Hi all, newbie here. So nub question here. How do calculate your annual income? Gross salary x12months or nett salary x12 months or gross x 12 months+bonus?
*
Hi,
The banks generally use "gross x 12 months+bonus".

There were LYN members who reported that certain banks are strict, and those banks only look at your Net Salary + Bonus (after tax/epf).
I am not a sifu here (I only have cards from like 5 institutions), but currently, I am only qualified for certain cards if they look at my gross salary (not net salary), and so far my cards are all approved.

3. Card required for: Petrol & groceries rebate/ utilities bill cashback/ travelling points/ long term 0% interest installment plan

4. Existing credit cards (if any): UOB ONE Classic & Yolo, Maybank 2 cards & HSBC Amanah. (but mostly only UOB for petrol & retail spending and Maybank 2 card for utilities bills)

5. Interested in CC from: NiL

6. Others: Dont mind to apply more cards but just want to know which cc can benefits me more in terms of the requirements. (E.g UOB have 5% cashback on petrol compare with others cc) Not sure about others tho.

Always good to add MBB FCB to your arsenal. Also check out PBB Quantum cards which give 5% cashback on selected categories (no minimum spending required).

QUOTE(leootan @ May 30 2019, 01:29 AM)
Looking for other banks CC besides MBB as currently all the CC that I am holding are from MBB.

1. Annual Income: around 60k (self-employed for newly startup business, with partner)

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Must have, let it be with x numbers of swipe or annual spending of RM xxxxx amount.

3. Card required for: Mostly petrol and retails spending, some occasional groceries, and online too.

4. Existing credit cards (if any): MBB 2 Plat, MBB FCB, MBB Krisflyer.

5. Interested in CC from: Any bank.

6. Others: Monthly spend from range 3k-5k, as can claim from company, so not a big hurt for my own pocket. Currently always max out CB from MBB 2 Plat and MBB FCB, so consider another card for more CB.

Many thanks.
*
Can claim from company hmm... Try to explore SCB Just One Platinum then, it can give up to RM85 if you spend RM2500 per month (check out the LowYat thread on SCB JOP on how to maximize the cashback), or Public Bank Quantum cards which give 5% cash back for selected categories (but up to RM30 per month per card only).

Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Prefer no annual fee

Card required for: Petrol, Grocery, Oversea Transaction, online purchase

Existing credit cards (if any): None

Interested in CC from: Maybank, OCBC, UOB

Others: Going to Australia on December for 1 year, prefer credit card support in Australia. Tried to apply HSBC but got rejected 3 times  icon_question.gif Wondering if Maybank will have higher success rate due to salary account is Maybank.
*
Have you found out why did HSBC reject you? HSBC cards are usually not hard to get.

For now, you can try to get Public Bank Quantum and BigPay card at the same time, they provide excellent savings when used together.
However, some members did report that Public Bank sometimes take a long time to approve the card (and they tend to be more stringent than HSBC).

Yes it is going to be quicker/easier to get Maybank card in your case. Feel free to apply both Maybank 2 Card and Public Bank Quantum together.
After the cards are approved, you can also consider to go for AEON Big Visa card for free lounge access.

Hey Folks,

I'm planning to get a credit card to do a 0% installment plan for a rm3k PC Rig that i'm buying.

So far most vendors only accept 0% Installment plan for Public bank and Maybank's credit cards.
So I'm stuck in choosing either banks.

1. Anyone can advice?

- My minimum Annual income is around 36k per annum.
- I have at least rm500 worth of company claims monthly that can be use on the CC. (So free points/Cashback on those)
2. Where's is best to apply for the cc? I'm thinking Ringgit Plus cause of the gifts.

Thanks in advance! smile.gif
*
Well if you are aiming for PBB or Maybank only, then PBB Quantum is the preferred choice (how soon do yhou need to buy the PC? PBB can take a little bit longer to approve your card - when compared to Maybank)
Are you willing to share more about the the nature of the "company claim"? Eg: is it under petrol, online, etc?

I do have pbb VS.  why aeon big hav ego reload first day of each month and before 7 am?
AmBank is 3% and aeon is 2. AmBank seems better.
*
There is a monthly cap (shared with all card holders) on the online cash back. Based on trials and errors from our dedicated forumers, it is recommended to reload within the first few hours of the month. Otherwise, the allocated cash back for that month might be finished by the time you reload it.

Yeah, there are not many higher end cashback cards in Malaysia... unless you count AEON Platinum (5% cash back at AEON or AEON Big, free access to PPL too) etc.

hi sifus, any advice on submitting credit card applications to multiple banks at the same time? whats the pros and cons if i do that? or that's something that i should avoid and better submit one by one?
*
Not a sifu here, but if you apply from multiple banks at the same time, you might be viewed as a higher risk customer for banks (more likely to default).
Every time you apply for a credit card, the bank will access your credit score and this leaves a "temporary mark" on it. If you really need the card, try to spread out and apply one per month. Otherwise, a gap of 90 to 180 days from your previous application is preferred.

The normal Maybank AMEX is generally a cash back card, not to collect points.

Their Maybank Islamic Ikhwan AMEX is getting an upgrade next month, worth your consideration:

If I apply this card now, once the new benefit is in place, I will get it right? As this is not a new card, just a revision of benefit of the existing card.

Yup, the card is the same, and all current owners will get the upgraded benefits next week.

what can i do?

I'd suggest you to apply for both, and then utilise Affin's balance transfer for your EPP, and then cancel the card before the next SST hits.
But if you must choose one of the two banks only, just go for Affin bank

5. Interested in CC from: Any reputable banks , from what i heard UOB, HSBC , MBB is decent

*
For your first card, you may try to get from the same bank where your salary is deposited into.
Otherwise from the list of interested bank, Maybank 2 Gold card and/or Maybank Islamic Ikhwan American Express Platinum Card would be the best for you. Do you mostly spend on online platforms?
