Just wait and see on 1 May 2017 then. I'm not gonna get trolled again by them the last time when they troll all of us about the 20th anniversary of Astro.  I thought it's gonna be something grand, big, and really a good surprise, but eventually they gave a piece of s**t.  So till then, don't be so hype about it yet.

Whether is it Warner TV, I'm not sure. But that bowman looks like it is from the US series Arrow just like you said.

but i dislike the fact that tvb classic and xinghe now has so many shows broadcast in letterbox. irritating.

TVB Xinghe is already available in China and Asia in HD (not indicated on the channel logo though for a simple reason - cable operators who do not want the HD feed will just downscale it to SD. For TVB, this saves them money too as they only need to beam out 1 HD feed for everyone).

On Starhub, TVB XHE is in SD 16:9 full screen per attached. TVB Classic SG feed is still SD 4:3.

Nick, Disney, Toonami are in HD over here (and same thing HD is not indicated on the logo for the same reasons as TVB). CN is an exception, the HD feed is only on Singtel while Starhub is still offering CN SD.

New HD channel will launch, Warner TV, channel 719. You can tune to 719 now and you'll see that it says Starts on 1 May.

Yes. The channel provider (TVB) transmits in 16:9. Whenever they show old 4:3 programme, pillar box will be added by them.

Still, Astro will still transmit in 4:3 with letterbox because the feed is in 16:9.

In a nutshell, TVB transmit its feed in 16:9 + add pillarbox during old 4:3 programmes = pillarboxed in 16:9 frame + Astro transmit in 4:3 with letterbox = windowboxed.

From what I see, it seems to be a deliberate delay for either censorship (in case if anything obscene) or giving enough time for them to plan to slot in ads.

Should upgrade more channels to HD

As of 5 May 2017, MTV (ch713) is now the one and only channel that is broadcasts in native 16:9 format but transmits in 4:3 format. Prior to this, only Go Shop (ch118) transmits using this format, but now the channel has upgraded to HD. In simple words, still in 4:3 but no letterbox, so when you watch it on your 16:9 TV, it will display as the correct shape if you don't set the viewing setting as pillarbox.

Now as what I see, besides correct picture shape (aspect ratio), the picture quality of MTV has improved a lot, but still not as good as native SD 16:9 channels like Astro Arena, Bloomberg, Disney XD, etc. But at least, better than nothing.

I was like, finally after been sooo many months, Astro only take action about the aspect ratio thinggy.
