but weird, how come they at Indo sell electronic stuff cheaper?
selling at 210000 Rupiah, after convert is around RM 80 sweat.gif  so cheap la
malaysia bring in Mylarone more expensive coz of the kena heavy tax?  hmm.gif

and i did ask my fren who got mylarone from jaben, and he said the selling price is roughly same with the jakarta website  unsure.gif
sorry tat i no offense here, just wanna clear some doubt
no doubt its NOT the "kena heavy tax" economics here my fren. the proper term for it is "opportunist enterprising capitalistic economics "(phew..!). due to the fabulous array of choices available in Malaysia, we can take a flight to jarkarta (or korea) and buy it or we can take a drive to our frenly southern neighbour or we can buy it online or...we can pay more to opportunistic enterprising youngmen to deliver it to your doorsteps.

capitalism at its best my fren. thank god for choices icon_rolleyes.gif

thxs to Uncle Wala (for robbing me of my $$$ LOL!) i got my mylarone M3 this aftrn all the way from JB. didnt realy want to give any impressions til its properly burn-in but what the hell....! here's my $0.02 on the M3 on the 1st day.

initial impression with the M3 as fitted with medium tips is....clean, clear but seriously lean. wtf happened to the bass and highs??? mad.gif dicked around with the tips and finally settled on the large (funny as i usualy take medium) as it provided me with the best seal. ahh...much better! bass is deeper and highend extension seems better. overall, initial impressions are of creamy smooth butter. no hint of any sibilance or fatigue which is excellent for brand new cans. left it playing with the shuffle even when im not listening.....

8 hours later, i finally got home and tried it again. not 2much changes from before and im still having a b**** of a time with fit. man...the provided tips sure sux. i hope mylarone improves on this. wait, i remembered i had some leftover tips from a long forgotton philips she9500. dug it out and tried it the L tips. much better fit as the silicon is slightly harder than the M3. WoW! big bass so much so its almost 2much but it seems i mite have lost abit of highend extension.

for those M3 owners who think its lean, find the right tips to give u the best seal. trust me the bass is there and IMO more than enuff for fing tau kakis rolleyes.gif .

so for the 1st day, not too bad. big bad bass but slightly muffled rolled off highs (she9500 tips) or leaner bass but cleaner upper end (ori tips). almost like 2fons in 1! sweat.gif with either tips, smooth's the word. the M3 has smooth and silky written all over. dont quote me now but of all the porty cans i own, the M3 reminds me of the AT ES7 but less refined in the bass and not as detailed overall (for now).

remember folks this is only the 1st day. i expect some changes (or as in the case of the ES7 and iM716, massive changes) in about 100-200 hours of burn-in. once burn-in, i mite do a proper portable battle comparo of M3 against Koss75, iM716 and the ES7. again this is only my opinion and YMMV. enjoy thumbup.gif

edited on: FWIW, except for the initial 15mins with the shuffle, all of my listening were done with the M3 amped (with either GV6 driven by 24v PSU and Tomahawk) offa ipod lineout.

so seems like she9500 muffle is caused by it's tips material?
even it's tips move over to m3 can cause m3 to muffle.
and through so many ppl changing the tips. i notice that IEM actually change sound more when u change the tips.even change to the sound characteristic to other brand sound where the tips is come from.
*
bro PCdude, dont know if the SHE9500 sux coz of the tips but i can safely say on the M3 it made a difference to me. the 9500 tips made a better seal and hence the bass is enhanced. the enhanced bass mite have de-emphasized the treble to make seems kinda muffled. 1 thing for sure is that the ori tips dont work that well for me.

QUOTE(yuheng @ May 5 2007, 12:58 PM)
bro...
dont amped it...u will have diff feels..
i have tried to amped with ZL stock amp....bad sound and u can feel wat is "incompatible".....till now i hvnt found a good amp to pair with it....wait i go jaben some other days...i will try all the portable amp there... laugh.gif
*
i tried it briefly unamped but even now, i feel the M3 has good synergy with the GV6. better control in bass and wider airier soundstage but its too early to realy tell.

short 24hr update: after running it non stop for about 24hrs, i put it on this morning. the muffling effect seems reduced and alot more upper micro details are coming through. still a very smooth almost syrupy kinda euphonic sound. so far....i like! its realy quite good (as long as theres no technical problems like the drivers frying in M1). thumbup.gif

wanna add that i tested the mylar2 xb on Saturday nite and IMO they are musically good. either the x2 or x3 will serve as great beginner cans and i seriously doubt they can be beat for the money. in a nutshull:

x2 if u like a warm signature and scales well on amplification.
x3 if u like clean & clear sound siggy and does quite well unamped.

not craping on this thread here but give brader PCdude's super mod ksc75 v2 a listen with a good source+amp. even uncle WALA's jaws dropped! and we're ABX'in with his MS2i nod.gif

bud, canalfons like the mylars and cx300s are the amongst the most comfy stick-in-ear cans u'll ever wear. if theres pain involved, theres something you're NOT doing correctly. give real IEMs like iM716 and Ety ER4 a try and u'll know the meaning of irritation and pain. infact u mite even learn something of the term...buggery shocking.gif !!

however for the true IEM afficianado with a big wallet, custom IEMs are available for anywhere from approx. usd300 to >usd900. O comfort & fit is pratically guaranteed thumbup.gif . resale value however is NOT! tongue.gif

QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Aug 5 2007, 03:26 PM)
as a diy junkie/audio electronics fanatic, i never believed in Ray's amps. They are too expensive IMO.

LISA III from ppl on the other hand.......(yes it's expensive but ppl's contribution to the diy community makes me want to support him)

*
i know this not the correct thread to discuss this but IMO there are some conveniently forgotton elements in your assumptions. while it maybe common for diy amps to be cheaper, they also usually look and are built cheaper. taking SQ out of the equation for the time being, i've had nothing but ooohss & aaahhss whenever anyone sees my RSA Tomahawk. its one of the best built (and argueably the best looker too) small porty amp and i'd pit it against anything anyone can diy.

as for value, if u check in headfi's classifieds u'l find that rays (and indeed most other branded too) products are highly sought after and retains a very high resale value. infact if one buys it used (which i did btw), i can almost say for certain that any losses in reselling would be minimal if at all. so in reality if one discounts initial purchase cost, one can actually buy, use and resell at very minimal costs. now if thats not value tell me what is? and then there's Xin amps which can often fetch more than what they retail for!!!

lastly there's SQ and pride of ownership. i dont know whats the best but on synergistic headfons, even yuheng and wala (both of whom auditioned my Tomahawk and my ex. ppav2) cannot proclaim the Tommy loses to the highly rated diy PPAv2. they share a lot of similarities and all 3of us concluded that its a matter of sonic presentations rather than sonic superiorities. indeed i saw more than afew smiling faces (at our recent Bolehtown headfi meet) after listening to my Gmod>Tomahawk>AT W5k combo. and as of yet, i've never had an amp that provided me more pride of ownership than the Tomahawk. plus 2aaa batteries lasts me over 400hrs! talk about true portability thumbup.gif !

so if u take all my above points into the SQ/performance/quality/value/pride-of-ownership equation (excepting initial purchase costs), DIY components may or may NOT be the great deal that it seems. perhaps its the other way 'round hmm.gif icon_idea.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Hey no offence taken. Whether u are arrogant or a loudmouth or an intellectual giant for that matter, is interpretory. All I'm doing is making an attempt to provide some balance to the commercial vs diy argument that u began. I do believe the best way to provide that balance is to stick to facts and figures.

Whether Ray Samuels makes good amps or not can be argued but whether RSA products sell and whether they are highly desired or not, cannot. A search on Headfi will provide all the data to verify that RSA (and a lot of other Brands) are highly prized. While I respect diy'ers, the sales figures will attest to the fact that 99% of the population purchase commercial products. Perhaps even diy'er would buy commercial too if they can afford it. Again its my opinion that value is of prime importance in any purchase and taking the points elaborated in my last post, it is shown that commercial branded products can be not only very economically viable but great value as well.

Now I do tip my hat off to people who believe that they can build a better mouse trap and perhaps in their own minds, they can. However where I come from we have an old saying - "the proof the pie is in the eating". Just as accusations and claims are NOT considered evidence nor proof, true respect is gained by "making the pie, putting it out there and let the public tasteand decide". Else what respect one believes one can garner by assumptions, suppositions and claims will start to smell like what pops out of the rear-end after a heavy meal of beans (or in our case, durian and petai).

While Team NATO members might disagree, it is my humble opinion that true respect comes from physically DOING what is claimed rather than performing gigantus feats of oratory poop. But that's just my opinion of'coz. Everyone else is entitled to theirs.

before more folks go over board on OT, let me remind everyone that this is a Mylarone appreciation thread. i wont say anymore more as my views are clearly expressed by my last 2posts. i'll end by saying that although everyone is entitled to their opinions, making false bravado claims is akin to sniffing glue IMO unless of coz one belongs to the glue sniffing Team NATO. best way for real leadership and respect is through substantiating all claims with facts and figures (again unless one is just out to blow smoke and sniff glue ofcoz )notworthy.gif rclxms.gif

Errm I know I said I wont go off topic in this Mylarone LoveFest thread again but in the interest of justice and fairplay, I'll make this exception. Do pardon me MylarDudes and bro Yuheng, please don't hurt me ya. If u sit on me, I'll prolly suffocate just from the odor alone!

1stly let me make it clear that anything and everything I write isn't personal and directed against anyone at LYN. Its only my personal attempt at providing balance to arguments and a semblance of justice and fairplay. What does any of that crap have to do with posting in forums? Well IMO there are codes of conduct for civilized behavior even in something as anonymous as a forum. There's Honor even Amongst Thieves.

While its perfectly within everyone's right to post their "opinions and views", its (atleast I do) considered most uncivilized behavior to post an "opinion", a "claim" or worse an "accusation" without any proof, substantiation or even logic with only the words "its my opinion" to stand behind. To me that's akin to sniffing glue, licking a**sss, spewing verbal diarrhea on top of being a full card bearing member of Team NATO (No Action Talk Only - not a compliment btw and a major reason why M'sia's still close to 3rd World status). And in the same vein, so can someone else post a similarly critically opposing "opinion" and "accusation" claiming no other basis except the above "its my opinion what!". Motto here being When One Gives Be Prepared To Receive".

So what's considered civilized? I cant speak for anyone else but in my books, qualifying and substantiating our opinions, claims and accusations with proof, facts, figures and (esp. baring the prior 3) as much reason and logic as possible would be IMHO, a giant step towards civilized behavior and civilization. When one does the above, one not only gains respect and stature in the community but it is my humble opinion that one also contributes to the sharing and dissemination of knowledge that's absolutely vital in the advancement of civilized society.

So to littleghosts question of why am I being so sarcastic and offensive, perhaps the better question would be ask our own selves "why am I being sarcastic and offensive?". Remember What's Good for the Goose is Good for the Gander. At the very least, I make every attempt to infuse my statements with facts, figures and logic as much as possible but that's just me. So do verify my statements for authenticity as much as possible as I will take my "medicine" (and crucification too if need be) in the interest of justice and fairplay. After all what's fair's fair!

Perhaps the (forgotton) practice of thinking 1st before spewing any "opinions" that may hurt and damage lest we too get hurt and damaged is something we should start remembering. And yes I will admit that the Asian mentality of putting others down to make our own selves look and feel good, to be totally and absolutely abhorrent. But that's just me so feel free to have your own "views&opinions" but beware of equal payback as others too have their right to their "views&opinions" however unfounded, unsubstantiated and unfair.

That's it for scottie's position on Civilized Behavior 101. Mylarone fanz u have the floor with my deepest apologies for hijacking your thread. I'm positive there'll be plenty of folks that thinks all this is irrelevant and nonsensical and all I can say is "its my opinion what!". 'nuff said! wink.gif thumbup.gif

hey i get worked up not when people dont like something. i get pumped up when people sniff glue and think that their opinion is the only opinion. as im free to post my views however irelevant, so must i accept others rights to post their views however idiotic. thats called FAIRPLAY. do look it up as its in the dictionary if anyone cares that is.

all i can say is if u cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen. if anyone doesnt like getting beaten on, then one should ponder seriously before one opens up a can of worms.

mon kapitan...i dont know if its only on my rig but my GV6 (with AD8620) rocks with my super modded Ksc75s. i gat bass i gat mids & i gats highs complete with superb clarity and details! heck it even gives allesandros a run for the money! so do check out whats not quite rite with your combo before tossing the koss.

yeah,u should not miss pk1 or pk2 as well..bty...i reply ur pm.
but i would more than happy to introduce u for im716 as well..the sound is 95% of er4, who bother to have er6.. biggrin.gif , with the price of RM400, u can get the quality of er4.... brows.gif
*
yup if anyone likes a more analytical detailed sound then the ER4/iM716 is the way to go esp. in IEMs. IMO the iM716 is NOT inferior to the ER4, more a case of a slightly different presentation. ER4s has a slight extended upper range but is leaner overall while iM716 holds the upper hand in having fuller bottom and mids IMO. but they both share far more similarities than differences. FWIW, i canceled my ER4 order becoz im totally happy with my mod iM716.

Yuin PK series is another thing but based on all that i've read, they fall more into the "musical" category rather than "analytical". musical generally means warm, fuller and more balanced in range.

i believe the mylars 2 and 3 will be similiar to the YUINs and fall into the musical category. based on my personal impressions, the M2 is much warmer (bassier) unless amped synergistically while the M3 is quite nice even unamped. FWIW even with my newly acquired audio preferences, the M3 via my 1st gen shuffle makes good music and is now my ultra portable rig nod.gif thumbup.gif .

another issue to be aware of is the question of comfort. true IEMs like ER4/iM716 can be b**** to fit and have been known to cause abit of discomfit for some folks. M2/M3 fit and SQ depends largely on the correct size tips for one's ears. Yuins PKs are just normal earbuds and thus should be supremely comfortable with the downside of non existing sound isolation. bottomline - theres no perfection. u pays your money u's takes your risks! whistling.gif rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Thanks. I think this will be okay for my first iem.

This forum is poisonous.

Any advice on how to care or mod for the m3? I heard somewher that it's build quality is not the best and need better care than some other brand but it has improved upon m1.

Added on August 13, 2007, 5:25 pmI don't want m2 as it's too bassy?
*
as yuheng said, no special care is required and there are no mods as of now. just get the right fit with the tips and treat it as gentle as your GF - u should be fine (however SM freaks mite find they need to buy a new set once a month or so sweat.gif ). sides the mylars comes with replacement warranty.

IMO, unamped the M2 will be on the warm side while the M3 is better balanced across the frequency range.

I dont believe PK series will provide any isolation whatsoever and IMO both the Mylars and PKs are equal in comfort.

i got an ipod shuffle. so can't adjust the equalizer there. if get mylar2 can boost the bass sound ar? or listen with mylar 3 better?
*
FWIW my uber portable rig is 1st gen shuffle paired with a M3. though it cannot compete with my regular porty rig, i can honestly say that the sounds emanating from the shuffle > M3 satisfies adequately to the point i dont feel im missing lots. to qualify the above statement, let me state that i can no longer listen to CX300s, any sony or philips earbuds or blasphemy of all blasphemies...any original included earfons! mega_shok.gif shocking.gif .

bottomline IMO the M2 pairs well wit an uneq'd shuffle thumbup.gif
