All hail the Mylar users, the Mylars beats CX300, read the last phrase.
Crossroads Mylar Review (from headphone haven) Given that I've given enough time for the Crossroads Mylar's to burn-in I think it's time to give a real review of these IEMs. There was really no special reason for buying these headphones pother than the fact that they get raves everywhere they go. So to satisfy curiosity, I decided to take the plunge, and I haven't regretted it yet. The first thing you need to understand is that I'm a hardened traditional over the head, headband, big earpads, headphone lover. I don't like neckband (although I love my iGrado's) I hate the thought of clip on's and so IEM's don't really cut it for me either. In the surfing world, 'surfing' (with a surfboard) is considered the real thing, whereas bogy boarding (lying down on what is loosely a foam board) is not considered to be the real thing. I think 'Shark biscuits' was the derogative term for boggy boards, when I used to boogie boards. Having said that, IEM's might come under the same light as boggy boards. Even with his prejudice against IEM's, I've recently matured enough to give them a go, and I've been pleasantly surprised. Hands up, my Sennheiser CX300's accompany me if I'm out of the house. I haven't been brave enough to let the Crossroads out in the open yet. The Package I have to say that I haven't been this impressed with the complete package since The Ultrasone Proline 750's. It's just full of stuff. Lets have a quick look at the itinerary: 1x Crossroads Mylar earphones - Check 1x In-flight adaptor - Check (This is not included in our stock, we are giving shirt clip instead) 1x 2 additional set of earplugs - Check 1x Smartwrap - Check 1x Lovely red circular carrying pouch - Check As you can see, you get plenty for your money. Hands up, I was looking to buy one of those Smartwraps, but now I have no need to. Not only that, but in the case of The Mylars, I'm not sure it's entirely needed. The Cable is a good length, or should I say convenient length. Unlike say, the Pioneer SE-MJ3B headphones where you'll need to have your ipod in your top pocket (the Pioneers really have the shortest cable I've seen), or the Sennheiser CX300's where the rubbery cable means you're forever untangling knots, the Mylars are the perfect length. The Ordering Process There's nothing to suggest that Jaben.net have been anything less than professional through the whole ordering process. The only problem was the length of time it took to receive the Mylars. It took about two weeks. In the defense of Jaben, this could have been that they weren't in stock, but it wasn't a big deal. Luckily, the Crossroads Mylar bundle didn't get stopped by customs, so no heavy charges then, few! I have been stung before to the tune of £25.34 (around $50) that hurt! Fitting Now this is where IEM's use to terrify me. How comfortable would the Mylars be? How far down your lug hole (ear hole) would you need to shove these IEM's anyway? But there's nothing to fear. The ear buds are rubbery and soft, and placing them isn't as hit and miss as my CX300's. With the Sennheisers, you have to almost place them equally in each ear to get the full effective. Having recently tried the Bose Triport IE which never stay in your ears long enough to here them properly, the Mylars are a revelation. Not only do they fit very well, but they stay in your ears. Any marathon runners out there looking for IEM's that stay in your ears, you won't be disappointed with the Mylars. The Sound? Having had then for a few weeks now I have to say that I've gotten used to them. Remember, I'm a hardened traditional headphone person. Big ear cups, big fat cable (preferably coiled) that's how I like the. Going for tiny IEM's isn't really my thing, so I'm really branching out here. To be fair in the weeks that I've had them, I've been amazed, especially when it comes to the bass. In my limited experience, both the CX300 (trying to find out if they're fake) and the Mylars, have very deep bass. Because the Mylars have better sound definition, the bass is also more defined, although at first I didn't think they were as deep as the Sennheisers. Playing my favourite drum and bass track Shimon - The Shadow Knows and the bass I deep and rich. I would say that they produce bass that can match if not better any of my headphones. Pitching Shimon and the Mylar X3's against the Equation Audio RP21's the RP21's are slightly more open. And the mids are struggling, but as for the bass, it more than keeps up. Now at this point I've got the Mylars plugged into the GO-Vibe amp. See what happens when I take it away. The Mylars are better on this Drum and bass track, without the Go-Vibe adding any bass weight to it. Don't get me wrong, the Mylars can handle the bass, it's just better without the amp for this track. Timbaland - oh Timbaland the Mylars struggle with the opening lines, but to be truthful, most headphones I've tried with this song does. Sound staging is good but Timbaland could do with being a bit more defined, a bit more central. The vocals form the RP21's are better defined. Maybe the RP21's are an unfair comparison, so I'm going to switch over the iGrados. The mids are harder hitting and more forward than the iGrado's, but I wouldn't necessarily say that they are better defined. Again, Timbaland is more central, more defined with the iGrado's than the Mylars. With the Temptations - I Can't Get Next To You (fair bit of background noise) with the iGrado's the central singer is well defined, the backing singers out to the left. The guitars to the left, the drums to the right. With the Mylars, the instruments are have wider sound staging, but again it's placing the singers right in the middle that's a bit tricky. But, there is more weight in the Mylars. Staying with the Hitch Soundtrack for now, Jimmy Cliff - You Can Get It If You Really Want, sounds beautiful and full. The bass is sooooo sublime. Truly beautiful. There's a lovely piece of bass depth in the opening lines. Switching over to the iGrado's, they can't compete with the volume of the bass depth, but they can dig down. Again, they sound staging is first-class. But for that lovely bass line, I'd go for the Mylars. Conclusion The Mylars continue to put a smile on my face. I think they are worth every penny and more. If not for the sound, them for the whole packing, including all the frilly extras. I'm surprised at the midrange compared to the iGrados, buit even with that said, they are a great performer, and the bass is phenomenal, And they surprised me in this test. I have no problem recommending them to anyone. Actually i have been recommending them, quite a lot. For first time IEM'ers these are fantastic, and comfortable. What are you waiting for, get yourself to jaben.net and buy a pair, now! The Dark Report I just want to add a comment about the growing tide of Sennheiser CX300 fakes. it seems that they are being sold everywhere and anywhere, but especially on the net, with big major sites getting folded the most (no website names). With this in mind, i think it's a good time to look for a decent alternative. I believew the Mylars aren't that alternative, why? because i think that the Mylars are in a different class thatn the CX300's, so how can they be an alternative? What i'm trying to say is that the CX300's have their merits, but the Mylars are better. And ya Littleghost, blame yuheng for not teaching you the proper way of wearing IEMs. Just a small tutorial. You can do this for the best seal, though it's for ear tips but somehow it's the same. For best results, moisten the white soft plastic eartips before insertion. Using your right hand, grasp the eartip with the red plug. With your left hand, pull up and back on your right ear to straighten your ear canal. Carefully insert the right earphone so that it seals deeply and comfortably in your ear. Repeat procedure for the left ear, using the earphone with the blue plug. Remove earphones slowly with a twisting motion to gradually break the seal. ![]() You can use alcohol to clean the ear tips but normally I dont care. It's personal stuff right? QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Aug 2 2007, 06:34 PM) thanks alot walabies!! Let it burn in and amp with... well last time I tried it on hornet was anyway, been listening to it unamped through my ipod. Good impressions. It's reasonably good. I'd say it beats the KSC 75 unamped for the moment. But then that's a high end amp. |

QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Aug 5 2007, 09:33 PM) no worries my friend. The only reason why you had to reply to my post is because I was not expecting anyone to take notice of my stripped down statement. I'm not trying to deny what commercial amps have to offer, nor to compare it with DIY Amps in general. The reasons why I don't believe in ray's amp is probably due to: 1) It seriously hurts my wallet. 2) I believe I can do better. 3) I love tuning my own sound. Heck, to be honest when I first saw the Balanced Apache in White chassis I was like "WOAH I WANT ONE BECAUSE IT'S TEH SEXY". But in reality, I felt it was not necessary and I can do better with my own knowledge in building amps. Not everyone can do the same, my statement does not apply to everyone. So I'm pretty safe from flames. Some true, some not.Resale value is irrelevant to my disbelieve in ray's amp, so not going to reply to this one. Synergy is very important. True. Parts count don't matter. Again true. Yes, as Alamaklor once said in the DIY amp thread, it takes a lot of effort to fine tune and select parts for a particular design. Those two are what makes commercial amps so different and special. Money, time and endless effort are put into selecting proper value and parts for a design. This is what makes them shine. A properly matched, designed cmoy (tomahawk) will always sound better than regular cmoys founds everywhere. I'm not surprised if someone even finds the tomahawk better than some class A discreet output stage amps. Again, I would like to stress that I am not being biased towards commercial amps. It's kinda a personal thing. LOL EDIT: In case someone thinks I was being too arrogant and cocky for thinking I can do "better" than Ray Samuels, it's not like that at all. It is not easy to explain but I believe if you have experience and knowledge in DIY, you would "feel" the same way too. It is entirely objective and has got nothing to do with arrogance. First of all, I have to say that I DO NOT have any knowledge in the DIY area, just that I know the time and cost they are build. So then I am neutral in the debate. Before that, honestly I am having a same opinion as Littleghost, "nah, tomahawk is so overpriced (even I am selling them/I dont open customer's package)", "so small, need 1.5k meh?". But then you have to try it, try with various setups, with rigs you are familiar with. In fact, it definitely sounds better than my PPAv2 (DIY) I have, or I would say it has the sonic presentation that I prefer. Detailed, transparent, and layered. No problem in amping the big size can, the W5k, with amazing hours. Big shock to us! So ya, you gotta try everything and compare it side by side. But when it come to purchasing, it comes to your wallet fat-ness la... This post has been edited by walabies: Aug 5 2007, 11:53 PM |

QUOTE(am3 @ Aug 11 2007, 05:00 PM) Hello all. If you are looking forward to use a powerful amp, get mylarone xb, good amping capabilities. This is my first post and i'm thinking of getting mylarone or mylarthree. Between the two of them, which one is more accurate or analytical? Which one is more true? I am using it for clinical purpose. Thank you. QUOTE(am3 @ Aug 11 2007, 08:05 PM) I don't have msn mail. only got yahoo. The frequency response is 20~20kmhz. But then I need to confirm again. I mean that the iem gives sound that is accurate to the original recording. meaning no coloration, or excessive here and there. i think sony's earphone is not accurate, it distort the original sound, make it more boomy, and the music will sound different than studio recording. I want a more analytical sound. No distortion so that i can hear the recording as it is recorded. distortion or excessive equalizing might gives a more pleasant sound but it could be distorted.... So i want it to sound like it was recorded in the studio, with no addition and distortion. hope i make myself clear... reading this forum just want me to get it these baby more and more... I want to know if the mylarone or mylarthree produce more accurate sound. mylarthree is better built, right? but if mylarone is more true or accurate, i might get this one instead. Added on August 11, 2007, 8:08 pmanother thing, what is the claimed frequency response of mylarone and mylarthree? Also is the build quality good? The cable is okay?
