A bond fund vs equity fund both with risk rating of 9 should I just invest in the equity fund? Since bond fund suppose to have lower risk. Or is the risk rating different between funds? Bond fund risk 9 is different from equity risk 9?

QUOTE(dasecret @ Jan 18 2017, 11:27 AM) Thought I'll put things into perspective since MGS sell off 2 months ago This is the 1 year chart for some popular bond funds. [attachmentid=8416043] What's the main diff? The MGS sell off affected Msian bond funds, and Select bond to a lesser extent as it's holding 1/3 Msian bonds and no effect to RHB ATR. But stability wise, select bond and local bonds still win big time. If you held on to the local bonds since the rout, it's probably breakeven by now. If you have held it for a year, it's probably at a higher than FD returns Before jumping in, you need to realise, although more stable, bond funds can lose money, it's not like FD, but in the long run, chances are it will outrun FD in a low interest environment Thanx. I'm thinking of putting money in bond for short term while waiting for good time to go into stocks. 1-3 months have better gain than fd hehe

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Jan 18 2017, 12:02 PM) careful there with that you are doing with stocks. it can erase all the profits you made from the bond. also with the brokerage fee of minimum 8myr or 0.108% plus stamp duties and etc for every buy and sale transactions, you have to really calculate everything. dont play stocks when you are looking to invest in less than a few thousands and doing day trading. No la I'm not doing trading. Plan to hold long term but also need to enter when price is low. So during that period hold in bond first lo. Good or not the strategy? U use different strategy?

QUOTE(xuzen @ Jan 19 2017, 11:42 PM) Yar, yar.... that is the simple way fo looking at it. My personal port is: AMREITS = 40% RHB AIF = 35% Manulife US = 15% Manulife India = 10% That's all. Simple port..... Not complicated at all. Has been like this since 2H Y2016. Xuzen P/s Is it coincidence or luck or both that the port is very green right now? All green wor..... I'm feeling luckeh! Your port is play safe style and didn't go for the high return funds? Is it because u r of age already? The risk over return ratio is FSM risk rating or volatility?

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Jan 20 2017, 06:24 PM) I hope you are prepared to get whacked when you tell Master Xuzen he is old. Anyways he did his research. stable volality wins the race in a long run. think of a reliable cheap family car that will bring you from point A to point B at a slow and steady pace, you may face potholes and such but you reach your destination. getting high risk funds are like buying a ferrari. sure you get to point B faster but at the cost of it breaking down easily from a minor pothole or worsy engine damage. Joking only. He seems like a person who can take joke right? Any range of volatility that should be follow? Maybe less than 10 is consider ok and more is cannot accept?

WhAt you all view in this:
I have few friends been investing for some time and they say never buy unit trust but go for stocks. They show calculation that the same long term investment even with FSM 2% charge in losing over 100k in chrges.

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Jan 20 2017, 06:52 PM) lemme guess these kids are the day traders who intend to make a meal or two per week from trading? No got long term also. As they said long term comparison the charges will accumulate to our profit. I'm thinking maybe they read books that teach this but on us market. For our market can't really apply
