QUOTE(Afterburner1.0 @ Feb 11 2021, 11:05 AM) our bank negara can always decide not to follow.... as per last cut of OPR.... any idea why bank negara can not follow? yes why? because the article says "OPR likely cut by 25 bps at March meeting" and forummer had been mentioning "in the event those who think it has a high chance to materialise" and "Some people depends on such forecast to plan their FD."

QUOTE(lifekiat @ Jun 30 2021, 12:57 PM) Want to ask you all, any one experience this before? Place E-FD via maybank2u, fund from Public bank. Money deducted from public bank, but not reflected in maybank.and the money gone.... called maybank, they just push the balll to public bank.... since is FPX, public cant do anything.... anyone know any fastest way to get back the money? The merchant claims it has not received my payment although the FPX transaction status is successful. What should I do? FPX transaction status is final and the merchant is obligated to deliver the goods/services or to update your payment in a timely manner. In this case, you should contact the merchant for the delivery of your goods/services purchased. You can provide the necessary details such as the online receipt issued by FPX/merchant or the email notification received from FPX that contain the following details: i. FPX Transaction ID ii. Merchant Order No. iii. Payment amount; iv. Date and time of the payment. https://www.paynet.my/fpx/faq.html

QUOTE(GrumpyDiver @ Jan 8 2022, 11:35 AM) The existence of PIDM tells us that bank deposits are not risk free. If you have 1M, you would have to split it into multiple accounts to be covered by PIDM. Even then, PIDM funds would not cover structural failure of the entire banking system. You could say that the risk of bank failure is insignificant, but Lehman proves that it exists. Is structural bank failure less likely than something as unlikely as a pandemic? Even minute risks are real. I think many would be more concern of the risk of inflation and the risk of MYR depreciating that would chip away the purchasing power of that 1M in FD, than the concern of chances of possible happenings of structural failure of banking system in malaysia. QUOTE(GrumpyDiver @ Jan 8 2022, 03:54 PM) The risk of MYR depreciation is addressed through portfolio management. Back in the day, I used to bank with HSBC which has a platform for managing accounts in different countries for currency diversification. As to inflation, I believe that inflation rates are usually higher than bank FD rates. To hedge against inflation, you should not put all your money in FD. Again the answer may be portfolio diversification. Portfolio mgmt involves risk, unlike FD. In which pidm gives extra peace of mind. Portfolio mgmt is just a fancy name for taking on risk. If not properly practised, or applied at the wrong time, the risk reward may not be rewarding enough for the work, time and risk placed with portfolio mgmt. To some people, placing money in FD is also part of their portfolio mgmt too. This post has been edited by MUM: Jan 8 2022, 05:30 PM

QUOTE(GrumpyDiver @ Jan 8 2022, 06:00 PM) Fd can certainly be part of portfolio management. I quite doubt that it will be the only asset of someone with 1m in the bank. Yes, that is very true. Btw, the % of adults malaysians with more than MYR400k (USD100k) in net worth is if I am not mistaken is less than 5% ONLY 0.2% of adult Malaysians were categorised in the over US$1 million The remainder 3.7% was placed in the US$100,000 to US$1 million wealth band. https://themalaysianreserve.com/2019/10/22/...wealth-bracket/How many millionaires are in the US in 2020? just over 8% of Americans are millionaires. https://spendmenot.com/blog/what-percentage...e-millionaires/if 8% are millionaires,..then those having net worth of USD 100k would be definitely more than 5% as posted This post has been edited by MUM: Jan 8 2022, 07:53 PM

QUOTE(paramdav @ Apr 12 2022, 07:57 AM) Thanks for all the response, my concern is that citibank has confirmed they are pulling out of retail/consumer banking in Malaysia so how they are still offering FD/time deposit? When is the actual date of pull out? Is it still within the period offered by that fd duration? Usually under the normal situation, other banks would take over the business... Else current borrowers no need to pay back the loans?
