I just got my xbox 360 today and tried to use direct modem connection for live service. however, this plan didn't work out as i hope. These are the steps i did:

1) Ethernet cable (from 360) connecting to my Aztech DSL 350E (4-year-old DSL modem)
2) Set an auto-connection....normal constant lights for PC. but the DSL starts blinking once plugged into my 360....

Tell me direct modem connection isn't the appropriate way to connect to live service or was i left out something?

If so, i think i should opt for router connection. Is it any wired routers will work for 360?

that's odd. This time i could get online! Anyhoo, i've entered the necessary setting. Btw, the model's gateway is 10.0.0.2...pretty old setting.

KFC zinger? sure! once we have the chance to meet!

Oh, Happy Chinese New Year to you guys! cheers!

rclxms.gif i've managed to log into live service with no fuss at all in these 2 days. Hopefully, no problems will occur again in the future.

For direct modem connection (specifically for cheapskates like me), here's how i did:

1) Set auto-connection in your modem setup. It can be accessed by typing the default gateway of the modem e.g. 10.0.0.2 (old modem) or 192.168.1.1 (new modem).
2) Start the xbox 360.
3) Connect the modem to the xbox 360 directly (hence the name direct modem connection) and then switch on the modem. It should be connecting by itself now.
4) At network setting of xbox 360, i didn't change the IP or subnet mask because the xbox 360 will set it for you. But, DNS servers should be inserted manually. Every streamyx user will surely know the magical numbers ---> 202.188.0.133 (primary) and 202.188.1.5 (sec).
5) If this method fails, try to bypass the DSL filter by connecting the DSL line directly to the wall socket.
6) If all these fail, call TMnet for tech support or visit this page again. tongue.gif ..why i got the hunch that i may come back again.... sweat.gif

my 20cents
2 reasons...sometime when u connected to internet then u log out (off pc)...that line still connected..so next time when u wanna login...u cant...2nd someone using ur line....actually that customer service can delete that session and ask u to login again...

Sh*ts like that happened to me too...there was a time (end of last year especially) i had multiple sweet & pleasant conversations with the female operators for weeks, thanks to "idling" connection that disabled me to connect to the internet. I was amazed myself for how i repressed my rage toward TMnet... thumbup.gif

According to Live FAQ, Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is a setting on your router or gateway that can affect network performance; the MTU diagnostic test will tell you if your router or gateway's MTU is too small.

Xbox Live requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364, so your router or gateway's MTU must be greater than or equal to 1365. If it's less than 1365 you won't be able to connect to Xbox Live.

What this means that you need to go your modem's admin mode to alter the MTu setting. As usual, the gateway is either 10.0.0.2 (again..old modem) or 192.168.1.1. Check your WAN's PPP configuration, there should be a MTU box that allows you to insert your preferable setting (as long it's more than 1365).

Wish this could help! thumbup.gif

Congrats thumbup.gif ! however, there are times that auto-connection might fail you (at least to me like yesterday). You can try to set a manual PPPoE setting via nextwork setting at ur xbox 360 dashboard. Here's how i do:

1) Reset your modem.
2) Connect 360 to the modem.
3) Fire up your 360 and modem. At network setting>manual>, choose PPPoE setting. That's where you type in your broadband account name e.g. xxxxxxx@streamyx (sorry...no maxis broadband at my area) and also your password.
4) This step allows your xbox 360 to connect to the internet just like the way your PC connect to the internet via dialers such as winpoet or winXP's manual dialer.
