When I first bought WoW, I felt so much awe and excitement. Each hour of gaming was entertainment, an alternative to sitting in front of the TV or going out.

Now though, I feel WoW is becoming more of a job than entertainment. Going to a 5-man, level 70 dungeon? Sit up and pay attention dude, or one mistake will wipe your group! What, you didn't bring any potions or misc buffs in case of emergencies? Shame on you!

Oh, you haven't attune yourself to Karazhan yet? You slacker! Oops, your spec is weak for this dungeon, maybe next time when we have a different group makeup!

I don't know man... what happened to the days when you play WoW to have a few hours of fun? It seems to be demanding a lot more for you to enjoy... Ever since the concept of "reputation grind", I feel it's becoming imperative that you have to "work" before having "fun". And what's fun now? 2-shotting some guy with your uber items before he can even react?

The ridiculous gear and itemization made the game less fun, IMHO. If you don't have great gear, you won't have a great time.

Sometimes I feel the game is trapped in a vicious cycle. Ok, lets give the players more powerful items. But wait, we need to make the new encounters more and more difficult so not everyone can get it. But you will also need those powerful items for future, more difficult dungeons!

It looks like an unending cycle. I'm not sure how random PuGs will be able to clear bosses like Murmur in Shadow Labrinyth or the Druid boss in The Botanica. Sometimes I just miss the old days, where you get off work, shoutout in /LFG, get a few pugs, go into a dungeon and kill a boss in a regular tank & spank for some regular loot in maybe just over an hour.

Now it seems everything needs "pre-planning" and careful coordination. "OK guys tank will stand here, mage aoe the small add spawns, melee need to move back every 30 seconds, healers cast HoTs on the MT during time-stop etc etc etc..."

It's just so... troublesome.

Meh.

dun play wow then...period..taht would help u certainly ...

Are you hoping for :

1) Sympathy?
2) Advice?
3) Attention?

Personally, i enjoy a game with various levels of difficulty. WoW gives me that. You've got the easy bits, and you've got the uber hard bits.

In some of its more interesting encounters, the strategies needed are quite challenging and really fun to work out. When you beat the "boss", the feeling of accomplishment is nice.

RL > WoW, for sure. But as far as games go, WoW > everything else, for sure.

That's called burnout. I think most of us have experienced that. I just reroll and start playing casually, that is, if you can find it in your heart to leave your epic clad character, 18 slot bags, 2000G and most importantly those lovely people whom you have grown close to in your server.

Why dont u quit wow and play one of those games with premade characters so that you can QQ less about wanting to have good gear without having to put effort in obtaining it.

Having said that, devs are making encounters more challenging to suit the needs of veteran players. Keep in mind that WoW is 2 years old. The game is not caught in a viscious cycle, rather it is (like all products) going through its life cycle, and products that dont change or remain similar to its original form will definetly die or be gobbled up by competitors. WoW is a business & businesses strive on repeat sales for sustainability. In this case, it is players subscriptions. Blizz's first priority would be to keep veteran players excited about the game by offering gear upgrades and challenging encounters for this group of individuals are the people who really contribute to the main income. The second priority would then go 2 casual gamers, followed by new players. MMORPG companies that do not have a clearly defined focus like this will find that players will eventually lose interest in the product. The little rep grind is simply a choice that is given to each player should they decide to pursue an item that can be purchased at a certain rep. For the average person, the level of satisfaction is postively corrrelated to the work put in to achieve. Blizz is simply building new content based on this.

yeah....WoW burnout...
few ways u can do...
- say bye bye to WoW for a few months, unsubscribe it for a while...
- play other class n race combo..9 classes, 8 races..yeah u have to start all over again but each race has their own 'story' to some extent which IMO is worthwhile to find out..
- i doubt other MMORPG has a different thing than what WoW has...mebe a slight change here n there but nearly the same..

i have the same feeling for wow. it seems more like a job than a game. everyday i wanted to log in but end up didnt. if it wasnt for my guildmates whom i grew close with, i would have quit wow. there's so many wow players who's addicted to wow and couldnt quit, plays at least 6-10 hours perday... i wish i were like them. sigh... why am i not addicted to wow???? /sad /wrist

Haha, I thought e-peen flexing players only exist in America, I didn't know there are lame ass people saying QQ and L2P here too in Malaysia. It was not a QQ post, it was just a post saying how jaded the game is becoming to me.

FYI I'm in a raiding guild that was 7th on server to clear Molten Core and 5th to clear Blackwing Lair, back in the days when we were limited to 5 debuffs on the bosses. You're also talking to a Warlord on the old PvP grind, so don't talk about about "no effort for gear". We have downed Twin Emperors and our Naxx adventure was cut short by the new PvP honor token system.

Did I ask for zomg epixxx? Did I say I couldn't clear the dungeons? Did you miss the part where I say random PuGs would have a hard time doing overly complicated bosses? Did you ever run those dungeons with non-guildies? If you haven't, do you even want to? When's the last time you pressed the "I" button for the Looking For Group menu?

Yep, tank & spank is boring. But sometimes, I just miss them, the feeling of casualness where you can waltz into a dungeon for 45 minutes of -not- being on your toes. If I wanted hard mode challenge, there's always Heroic Mode as well as raiding, AND the rewards there are better than normal mode (haha, some at least, look at the crappy itemization).

I'm sometimes puzzled, why put boss mechanics that would seem more suitable for Hard Mode in normal dungeons that would put off casual players who just got off work, for example? It's as if Blizz ran out of ideas when they finally implemented Heroic Mode, so their idea was to add tons of HP, tons of attack damage and lots of AoE / cleave / fear into the mobs in Heroic Mode. As it is, Heroic Mode now just feels like a "numbers" game.

im a casual player now and sometimes i play after work till bout 12.30am. Yes i have run those instances with non guildies.. but on an old server, people know how to play. We were pugging ONY/MC/BWL in Dec.

I dont really think xpax boss mechanics are hard, certainly not as direct as UBRS, but nothing overly complicated.

Nice epeen flexing yourself.. might have impressed someone out there.

Because at the end of the day, no matter how disgruntled or jaded you get with the game, it just comes down to one thing : your choice.

It's your choice to play the game. It can also be your choice to stop playing the game. It's your choice to play the game different.

Blizz is a game developer yes but that doesn't mean that they are to cater to all our whims and fancies. Plus there are only so many things that they can do anyways.

They could on one hand allow players to create their own "game content" in terms of questing, house, etc. but they choose not to. Yes, there is some flexibility in the game to do what we want but that's just a small bit.

Sounds harsh yes but it's also an old tale of woe that we're heard for a long time now about the hazards of online gaming. After all, it's your choice to play the game. Burnout comes with the territory. There are ways to manage the burnout i.e. move guilds, move servers or just stop playing the game.

At the end of the day, it still boils down to one thing : your choice.

Just take a month or 2 off. Worked for me.

Or..try other up and coming titles (maybe), vanguard, warhammer online etc..

what guild ur from and which server were u from btw ray?

I have one advice for you. Type /gquit and enjoy the game at your pace. you know, there is more in casual playing than hardcore itemization. However, if you are in a PvP server, your out of luck. Better start up in any normal servers than you can go at your pace. From than, you won't feel guilty and you can continue playing just 1-2hrs a day with no worries.

Yeah I'm waiting for Warhammer Online. Yes, I'm on a PvP server (Gorgonnash). No, not looking for sympathy. Just wondering if there are people who feels the same, getting burnt out and asking if casuals are finding the game tougher, which I believe so. If you're were regular in this forum for the past 6 months or so you would probably heard of Band of Hawks recruiting.

As for the e-peen, it wasn't flexing but just explaining so that you would know I'm not one of the casual qq-more-easy-lewts-pls. I'm (was) a 40-man raider and a hardcore PvPer, even though I had someone helping me with the last legs of the grind when I was bogged down in RL work. So I know one has to "work" to get epic loot.

I did took 8 months off before TBC arrived. Leveling in TBC made the game wonderful again. But you know the feeling of Molten Bore? I think many are getting that feeling again in the level 70 dungeons.

My point was that the current level 70 5-mans now aren't really meant for casuals. As a former raider, I see more emphasis on "raiding" style preparations to do them, eschewing the casual "pick up and go" from Azeroth. Yeah, I can clear them, but sometimes I'm amazed at the amount of "work" needed and I wonder if PuGs and casual players are able to do the same.

Let's be honest, once you get your quests and the loot you really want from say, Shadow Labyrinth, you will never want to go there again. In comparison, before TBC one can go DM again and again even though you have better loot, simply because you can go and have fun and be done with the place in less than 40 minutes (DM Tribute).

I just thought of it... many of the dungeons now feel like Sunken Temple. What a pain in the ass. How many of you guys skipped ST entirely, or just did one run and never went back? Heh.

Do I feel achievement at clearing these new dungeons? Not really. Do I worry for the PuGs and the future this playstyle holds? Yes, because if even a self-professed hardcore player like myself feels worked out, how would casual players feel? I used to recommend WoW to my friends, but now I doubt I can persuade them when I'm not really convinced of the end-game myself.

Oh well. Maybe once I get to Karazhan I will see differently. To be honest, some of the outdoor 5-man quests are more fun than the dungeons, like Zuluhed the Whacked and Vhel'kur the ghost dragon.

if so many of you are so bummed up about the game, why not get together in one server and just help one again out? rather than chit chat here. involvement and support for one another would help each other out.

or just quit the game entirely. i wouldn't put too much expectation on the developers. alot of u seem to have other games to look forward to when they're released and i hope that you guys end up being more motivated.

burnout in games is usually an indication that it's time to move on. nothing wrong with that. hard to leave a game but at times, it's for the best. unless you decide to change the way you game that will make you more motivated to play.

there's a tendency to blame the game for it's gameplay and a player's burnout. both are still choices of the gamer, even if he does deny it, he still decided to stick playing with it until the end result. you're also not obligated to recommend games to friends.

There are always some that hate it and some that like it (ST). Less than 40 min in DM tribute doesn't apply anymore. They fixed it. There really no dungeon less than an hour unless you zerg with tier 2/3 armor.

I'm at the exact opposite of Velspar.

I love WoW to death and I can't get enough of it. But my dead end job is forcing me to 60-70hr work weeks, I couldn't even find the time to log on. Guilds are already deep into Arena or farming Karazhan, but here I am wearing PoS greens with no gears/money/rep.

Pfft, resign from your job and take a 1 month break to play nothing but WoW ... surely in this time you'll be able to gear your chara ;P

can we do DM alone? Can we do any dungeons alone for that matter?

I always believe, if we would like to enjoy something to the max, we shall threat it like drinking wine, slow and small sip, listen to nice music, appreciating the fellowship with who ever is/are sharing the moments with you, and it can last the whole nite.

We shouldn't do it like taking shots, which is small, but strong... after a few, we'll be down, next pass out, follow by a terrible hang over day.

therefore, I believe we shouldn't repetitively doing something in a short period of time in long run... it'll only shorten the lifespan of interest.

I love chocolate...but eating too much in 1 go will give me sore throat.

It applies to WoW, sports, clubing, work, etc... anything in life.

'cos we are human, we are not robots/machines, we'll get tire in some point.

depending on gear. a lot of level 70s are running around in Nagrand gear which is seriously pitiful.

hehe its really powerful, im at close to 8k unbuffed hp, and some 23% crit, 1.3k AP, and 2x 162? top end dmg daggers (whispering blade of slaying, from murmur shadowlabs)

im basically doing around 3k mutilate double crits on clothies and ambushing for 2.4-3k on clothies.
