QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Mar 1 2017, 11:20 AM) Correct. The Arabs and Chinese did pledge the money. But how soon these funds are being transferred in and where these funds being pumped into remains another question. And how our government "manages" the funds is another question. I'm sorry to say this,... but sounds like all these supposed pumpings-in of funds are bs's to me,... perhaps jibby and gang wants to prop up the RM and the confidence of the people by asking those foreign leaders to utter something like this to the media !

I think shouldn't compare with the SGD-lar,... surely will lose,... compare with, say,... USD or Euro or JPY, more logical, because these currencies are NOT tightly managed by their central banks,...

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Mar 9 2017, 11:52 AM) if wanting to buy usd/sgd/aud with rm, but not buying now, waiting.. will be right if...1. rate hike happens on mar 15.2. bnm continues to use reserves to "peg" rm to the $. me, i am buying 1 but not 2. that basically is the view anyone need to take. I'm also thinking like the above, Showtime,... BUT there have been instances in past hikes whereby as the news to the hike gathers steam, the USD will strengthen strongly,....... and then AFTER the hike, or even upon the hike, the USD weakens back,....

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Mar 9 2017, 02:18 PM) And that... is a possible scenario. If that will be the case, $ drops, RM follow? If RM follow, it will drop against all other majors... sgd, aud... So, better buy fx now or later? Just hv to hold a view n run with it. If diversified already, it may not matter much overall. I think just apportion out the targetted amt to be changed over the next few days, and chg over daily,... final day of change to be daytime, March 15, Wednesday. Ann't will be that night, our time,....

Yeah,... the MAS said to investors last night that they do not intend to lower the SGD band in the coming policy meeting in April because the economy looks okay now,... if this happens, then the SGD will run faster up against our RM,... don't know wished to be happy or sad here !

QUOTE(Aurora Boreali @ Mar 17 2017, 01:27 PM) Hi peeps, I asked this in the FSM thread but wonder if you guys here have a different view point. I recently came back to Malaysia after close to 2 years of earning foreign income and brought back with me some foreign currency (from the former land of convicts) which is sitting in my FCA now... With the current weakening RM, should I convert it out to RM and then invest in funds or should I just keep it in the FCA without earning any interests to hedge against the historically downward trend of RM? Dilemma. Sifu please advise QUOTE(Ramjade @ Mar 17 2017, 01:41 PM) You are no longer staying there. So you will be taxed with holding tax. But consider this. a 6% in in AU (after tax) vs a 6% returns with depreciating currency yearly, I think the choice is clear. Yes,.. agreed with the bro here,... go invest yr AUD,... don't leave it sitting there in the FCA. Better transfer it out asap before any BNM actions again,...

Yeah,... good points in the above,... for myself, I can see that if I have left my earnings in RM there lying around just in local bank FDs and perhaps Bursa,... earning the RM only,.. I would feel the value issue today,...
Even if I put the RM converted into SGD,.. SGD amounts into poor SGD FDs, I would have gained in absolute RM if converted back from SGD into RM today.
To preserve value and purchasing power, we must try to earn the stronger currencies. If can work to earn such currencies, it's very good. Otherwise, if can't work to earn, then invest to earn,...

However Im skeptical because The Star is a government 'propaganda' paper. Yeah,... saw the above news too this afternoon,... Quite encouraging,... can change over if the RM goes up,.... Back in November 2016, BNM put in a measure to force exporters to convert back their export proceeds into the RM within three months' time,... that timeline is expiring by this end-March,... don't know if these foreign funds are also taking advantage of the earlier measure happening soon,...

I've been talking abt all these forex controls since back in November last year, if you referred back to my posts. Then I was criticized against for saying things that are not happening, or were not happening yet,.. and there were words like things are still fine today, unlike back in 2007/8,....
So,... we have to waves rushing in now,...
Let's see starting from coming Monday,... how are the banks going to request for documents from ALL incoming TT's,.........

QUOTE(Showtime747 @ Mar 24 2017, 09:44 PM) Bro, to be fair to BNM, this is not a new rule on forex control. It is just that previously the banks did not implement it strictly. I still remember many years ago (like 7-8 years ago) my fund from overseas was withheld by the bank asking me for documents. I eventually provided the documents and solve everything. It took a few days. After that, I told off the bank saying if next time you still hold my fund from overseas, then I won't use you any more. Since then, no more asking of documents. I think is bank giving convenience to their customer, and did not follow BNM rules. Not that it is not required by BNM. But the bank is trying to make our life easy. It seems that BNM now has asked the bank to follow the instruction again. So the bank has no choice but to follow. The purpose I can think of from the bank point of view is to prevent dirty money from leaking into the banking system. So they are just doing their compliance job. Since the rule is there years ago. Just a few months ago, when TT money out of malaysia, the bank is so paranoid that they requested every single documents they can get from you. But now everything is back to normal. Because banks have clarified with BNM that nothing has changed. So my recent transfers were all very smooth. Of course, you must help the bank by providing the necessary supporting documents and follow all the rules. Then everything no problem... For MBB to request documents for in-coming TT, it is just a matter of getting use to the procedure... Ok bro,... tq for your explanation. Well, if things are going to go through the same cycle again as what you/we have experienced previously as you related,... then I think should not be an issue anymore,... I'm glad for this though,.. hopefully lar,...
