Performance & weight don't exist together.
Higher performance = more heat = larger heatsink = heavier. |

dell laptop are good for IT stuff and programming
the programmers in my company all use dell precision series and latitude series or you can go for vostro series, cheaper but still can make the day it all depend on the programming software you are using and how intensive the programming you are doing, example on compiling and executing when testing phase. PS : i dont know the prices of these because we do bulk purchase using company credits account, but they have a range from low to high, meaning from cheap to expensive This post has been edited by sickworms: Dec 7 2016, 10:07 AM |

I usually grab dell latitude from some sellers in lelong, few sellers there, who sell refurb or demo units at great price, recenty grab one dell latitude i7 512gb, 8gb 12.5 inch, less than 4k, also manage to grab on i7 256gb 8gb, 12 inch, less than 3.2k , you hv to keep looking.. bro.. haha..

usually the newer they are the better they'll be because of the new instructions built into it. But if you wanted smoothness go for at least 8GB ram and a SSD. The SSD is optional because it will make your life a lot better with its speed . For the OS that's up to you but since windows 8.1 is no more unless you reinstall it you're stuck with buggy windows 10

If only for programming and web development, any laptops with i5 and 8GB will be more than enough. Just depends on which brand/design/thickness/weight you like. You're looking at around RM2.0k-RM2.5k.

Software development in multithreading environment? Get a laptop with quad-core CPU, optional with hyperthreading (core i7). I/O intensive? Faster RAM (2133MHz, usually DDR4) at least 8GB. And an SSD (or SSD+HDD) for prevention on hitting 100% disk usage like those 5400rpm HDD.

Clevo (aka boutique machines) will do the trick, and here it is sold as an Illegear/Aftershock.
The reasons? 1. Great customer service that actually knows the product 2. User-serviceable (you can even get the service manual in which you can repair or service the machine at your own) 3. High price/performance ratio 4. No bloatware (most laptops come with bloatware, and you get to choose your own OS) 5. Very durable and well made 6. Highly upgradable (which means no pesky tamper resistant screws, solders and glue) This post has been edited by chocobo7779: Dec 7 2016, 10:52 PM |

What sort of programming?
Programming isn't something processing intensive so what notebook you buy also generally no problem. Now the question is whether you're running a certain emulator / environment for certain programming, some setup does require a little more processing power and RAM. |

Actually when comes to notebook for programming - the primary concern would be monitor and keyboard.
You'd want something to be comfortable to view and type, a larger screen like 15" onwards would be better than 14" or smaller. |
