4) see i am using z5500, but on the z5500 digital panel there are number of settings. Direct, Coxial & Optical. Under all those settings there are also some effects like Stereo, Stereo x2, PLII Movie & PLII Music etc. the thing is which settings or effects would be optimal for my setup? normally i use Direct + 6 channel direct.

5) as i mentioned earlier i cant utilizes my optical settings. the articles provided were good but just cant do it.

Please assist. Very much Thanks!!!
cheers!!!!

So, I haven't been able to read all the 58 pages of this thread (!!)....but from what I've gathered, the software support for x-fi still sucks? I had a soundblaster live back in the day, and because of all the trouble it was giving me I said I would never get another creative card.

So heres my pitch -- I'm looking for a sub <60 USD card -- are X-FI still the way to go is there another sound company I can go with? I heard m-audio is pretty good but still pricey?
*
x-fi currently is good.... after many changes in driver. another one is coming soon.

u can try ASUS XONAR nod.gif me.... still stick with my x-fi

hmm, i'll checkit out. i like to hear other people's opinions as well.

I'm also using Vista, does that mean I need a patch for every software/game that is incompatible through this alchemy system? seems very troublesome.
*
no need creative has alchemy software.... very easy to use

looking through the EAX list, i haven't seen any recent games with support for it. does it really make much of a difference?

irrelevant? are you going to say the EAX standard will die out soon?  doh.gif

they do not support EAX based on two reasons.
1. Most of the gamer still using onboard sound.
2. The game developer not capable to produce the EAX sound game...

Why you need to bother the card is EAX capable or not? even Asus marketing their sound card with EAX...The Creative EAX lead from others from EAX4.0 and EAX5.0, and the game just simply can't catch up with this standard...just think as ATI GC DirectX10.1 support, who care the 10.1 standard got any title support or not, at least the standard is ahead now...
*
u r definitely right. currently i am playing games with superb sound. i dont even bother whether the games are EAX compatible / certified or NOT.

i play games mainly because there are good games..... not good sound!

QUOTE(OmniAtlas @ Oct 29 2008, 01:40 AM)
hm, so will more game developers use EAX? I'm not really bothered if the card is EAX compatible or not, I just want software-driver support that works with Vista -- from my past experience, creative has been horrible with their drivers -- if you remember that incident where they tried to sue that guy who made drivers for the card because creative were too slow in developing them!

I just don't trust them anymore and would rather go with another name company. However, this is an x-fi thread, so I would like to know if you guys are happy with your choice, and if you could buy another card, would you, and what would it be?

Added on October 29, 2008, 1:41 am

but surely you bought your soundcard to add to that experience!
*
u r definitely correct but i prefer quality gaming first rather than the sound. smile.gif

Dear all,

Looking to upgrade my current Audigy 1 card. Main usage is only music and sometimes movies. No gaming though. Among the cards below, which one is more suitable?

1) PCI Express X-Fi Titanium OEM (new, RM200)

2) X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 (used, RM180)

3) Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS (used, RM100)

Thanks
