if you want to use the features fully, stick with XP....no Dolby Digital and DTS in Vista for this card as Creative cripple these functions in Vista...

Seriously, what speaker u using now?

can u provide me a guide or a link how to fully utilize this SC if using 4.1 speaker setup..

*right now i'm just setting what is best for my ears..
or is it that the way it should be..??"trust your ears"
*
fully utilize? what means? just set your speaker setup into 4.1 is settle....
Attached Image

if you want to hear 4.1 of stereo music, set as below...
Attached Image

stereo surround will clone the front stereo into rear channel, so the sound will be more natural...otherwise you can try stereo Xpand, maybe u like it...

I using 4.1 setup also....i use media player classic with K-lite codec AC3 filter to watch the Dolby Digital movie, no problem, and i very satisfied with it...

depends on the speaker setup...if you are using 'native' 5.1 or 7.1 speaker, than the sound will be OK, but some people like me setup surround speaker by using different brand of speaker, than the sound will become weird if mismatch....

got a really interesting question to ask you guys...

is there any difference in audio quality output between XP xfi driver VS vista xfi driver using the same EQ, same settings?

I'm currently using Vista but somehow everytime i use back XP and listen to my songs, it did sound a bit different, XP output seems to be abit better. I'm not sure whether it's just me or the driver really got different effects on the output .
*
I feel the same thing as you...X-FI sound in Vista is rough in treble and lost detail in midrange...not too much, but is significant for me...I discovered this difference just 2 weeks ago, before that i play music in XP for so long time, thats why i feel the difference...

And i do RMAA test in Vista too, the frequency response curve got ripple after 4kHz, not as flat as in XP....

omg!... at least i'm not the only one who "felt" the difference...  sweat.gif
*
What player u use in Vista? I use Winamp in Vista and have the exactly 100% same EQ setting as in XP...the difference is i saw the 'software mixing' in Vista instead 'hardware mixing' in XP, so i think this is the cause of SQ degradation since no direct sound in Vista...

another problem in Vista was the sound sometimes skip or pop....not often, but never happen in XP... sweat.gif

Actually i adi prepared myself to use the Vista, the networking in Vista is much more better than XP, because my daily activity is surf net and listen song, but i'm serious in sound quality, i can't compromise although it is just a minor degradation, so now i 90% in XP and 10% in Vista...

a lot of users said this is purposely done by Creative to condemn the old card so that the new card 'X-FI 2' sales will be boosted.... sweat.gif

They've done it on previous card, like on Audigy and Live! series. I'm not surprised to see this on future Creative cards, they always 'forgot' about the previous card no matter how powerful and great it was shakehead.gif

i am not so pity since i only bought 2nd hand X-FI for cheap price...but for those who bought the top end ElitePro for RM1000++ will jump from the building... sweat.gif

glad that my question triggered so much response. I gonna miss Vista. I'm almost there with you, coolkwc, any audio degration will annoy me!! I can't believe I'm at this stage where i need to change OS just to get those little audio details back!!  vmad.gif

I think you should be OK too since your ElitePro is only RM280 from Blitz...lol....but this sound card really hold me back to XP...now i just wait and see when i will loss my patience towards Creative...

True, I wanted to buy X-Fi cards, but I think long and hard about it. I still undecided, but I leaning towards anti Creative, and anti Audiotrak too. They seems to be as lazy as Creative. I don't mind if the driver don't get updates as often, but if only it got no problem in the first place
*
Actually i really want the ElitePro from Blitz but was too late because i just got my XtremeMusic before that...RM280 too attractive to me although it might not work well in Vista... tongue.gif

it's not a matter of getting xfi at cheaper price, it's the hardware and software long term support that's important to me!

no point buying a Ferrari, if over the next 10years, there's no petrol to run it. same case here, ppl dun really upgrade their soundcard as often as graphics cards...good soundcard is a good soundcard, just pls dun cripple it purposely.
*
ya, when i first bought my 2nd hand X-FI in January this year, from the perspective of hardware, i really thought the X-FI will sit inside my PC forever, but now it seems my thought was wrong, as the new generation of OS come out, the X-FI will lag behind far and far...

before i bought this card, my mind just got Creative, although i heard all the Audiotrak, Auzentech before, but i just not confident on that...but after i bought it, i went to the Creative forum and saw a lot of weird scenario...the criticism of the users there make me shock, after that i really went to search a lot of forum, modding forum etc...and just in three months, i found all the dark side of my card, either from hardware used or software....but is too late...

but i enjoy it, because i feel worth it for RM200++ i spent to know all this thing....at least after i got this card, i know the other brand of card, opamps, DAC and much more...

and I found that i become addicted to the sound card adi... sweat.gif

some bad news here for X-FI user....

i look for my card very detail 2 days ago and i found a lot of 'G-Luxon' capacitors were used in analogue part of the card, and i just found in HERE and HERE G-Luxon was 'well known' bad cap... shocking.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

So, X-Fi user please prepare for the SQ degradation coming as time passed by...

EDIT: Jamicon cap too.... sweat.gif
