yap, more than a week doh.gif i even don't know about it because recently this thread became 'X-FI modding' thread... tongue.gif
*
Yeah, very funny when we think about it tongue.gif

Anyway, lets talk about something other than modding. I played all the games that supporting EAX Advance HD like F.E.A.R, Quake4, Doom3 and I just shocking.gif It sounds heads and shoulder better than any cards that I've tested before, the only thing I can't test is Battlefield 2 since my CD is damaged doh.gif but anyway it really makes it more immense and suspense to the game nod.gif

Anyway, what's new in the new beta driver? I don't think I need to change, the driver I use now is doing fine smile.gif

You're hooking a 5.1 setup to your XFi ?

No, I never have any 5.1 setup. Everything is just stereo

not much improved in this new driver, but for me it is good because the uneven level of THD, DR and Noise test in RMAA all solved, so i think it might modified something such as sampling rate in Entertainment mode...still discover something new now....unfortunately the ASIO bug still there, make it major drawback of this driver.. doh.gif
*
What ASIO bug? Anyway when I tested RMAA again, there is a huge spike on higher frequency on the left channel doh.gif probably mess something up but I don't know what cause this, although I can't hear any defect when playing music, games etc

the pitch become higher when using foobar + Creave ASIO doh.gif ....and after using ASIO windows need 5 minutes to restart/shutdown, this problem exist from the beginning, not fixed, i don't know whether you all got problem or not...

*
Never experienced it before. Very weird that most of you guys having problem with Creative products, I have none, even my old SB Live! have none my current X-Fi work like clockwork even when I messed up the left channel and doesn't need to change driver or anything

Hmm, why is this thread is dying? Where is the modder and user?

I get annoyed by the left channel distortion, so I looking what causing it, by nook or by crook, I check where is the problem by shorting some part of the PCB, first try is after decoupling to opamp (my first guess is the small resistor after the decoupling), but its not it, the problem still there. Then I try straight from opamp out to RCA jack bypassing everything after that (my 2nd guess), yeah I hit the jackpot thumbup.gif !

Now it sounds much clearer, and furthermore it fixed the DC offset voltage problem, now its 19mV on both channel rclxm9.gif

Yeah there is only 3 modders here laugh.gif tongue.gif

Well, I don't know what are those resistor or whatever there is for, don't know much about electronics. I'm more street smart than book smart tongue.gif

Its simple, just run a small wire from opamp output, then connect it to RCA or 3.5mm jack output, you can't bypass it with internal 3.5mm though

Further checking, I read the DC offset wrongly, its 190mV not 19mV doh.gif rclxub.gif whistling.gif

Without opamp, the DC offset is staggering 6.9V shocking.gif

No, i means when you do RMAA test, you can bypass the input opamps, maybe it can show the real potential of your LME49720... brows.gif
*
oh I see, well I'm to lazy to do RMAA. Never bother much about it. But if I do so people will drool with the result I think biggrin.gif

Alright, here's the new RMAA test, the graph on top is the one modded but BEFORE it have left channel distortion, even so it still uneven. The bottom one is the bypass to RCA, as you can see even though it's about 1-2dB behind the stock 3.5mm, but its much smoother overall. Very happy with the result smile.gif

Hmm, that's weird. I just redone the mod, now I removed the transistro and bypass them (means I use 3.5mm for RMAA) and it returned slightly better result than totally bypass them, but still I tap from 3.5mm to RCA since I don't like to use adapter to connect to my amp

Its up to you, really. Bypass or not, your ear mostly can't hear much difference, trust me smile.gif But the last resort, you should clean your mod area thoroughly, I messed up my mod when I bypass the muting transistor just now, I just noticed that there is a stupid solder stuck on those small SMD resistor shorting them and mess up the sound

My left channel distortion is even worse than yours but I don't save the result to compare, but all I remember is the THD and IMD is around the same as yours

Oh I forgot, I removed some capacitor render those pins unusable. Anyway I don't think I needed those to use that pins anyway, I just fine with what I done now wink.gif

nope, remove those cap won't affect that pin, the signal path just from SMD resistor to that pin, no cap along that path... but is up to you whether want to use it... nod.gif
*
That's weird, when I used it there is no sound at all unsure.gif

to be honest, X-RAM is useless until today...

EDIT: for audio quality, all are same except ElitePro...
*
True, the only games that I see that uses that X-RAM is Battlefield 2 and 2142

And yeah, basically anything below Elite Pro is the same (same DAC, same layout, opamp etc.), except for XtremeAudio that is

you not said i also don't know Battlefield using X-RAM...but the card without X-RAM haven't suffer any performance issue also... flex.gif

EDIT: lol, still only 3 of us keep posting here... blush.gif
*
Yeah, I not bothered with Fatal1ty, unless its an Elite Pro, but even that flagship card have it weakness, which I know what is it brows.gif

Well, we don't need more than that actually tongue.gif

the big weakness that i know was there are still a lot of crap cap on it... doh.gif
*
That is known weakness, there is other major disadvantages on Elite Pro involving sound quality. Even though it have superior DAC, but the opamp supply is directly feed from +12V rail of PC without any regulation (the SB046X have 5V regulator), and there is only crap capacitor that filters it shakehead.gif

QUOTE(Pepperboy @ Jun 15 2008, 02:25 AM)
RCA = red and white cables rite..? Coaxial is only one cable... Both is the same? And can get Dolby/DTS sound or not?
*

Normal coax uses RCA like jack, and AFAIK you can use internal Dolby decoder on the card and through SPDIF

Some have problem with leakage but some hae no proble. YMMV

from webby.. x-fi xm can be hardmodded into fatality. Is it true?

Its possible, but not practical. If you can remove the 2MB RAM and replace it with 64MB plus update its firmware, then you can

True, but well, I'm not too keen on changing opamp again. But well, I try my luck on this new one, hope it will be the last one that I changed. I requested for some sample of LT1364 from Linear too, but I think thats gonna be awhile before it arrives

I still don't know. Actually I really wanted to try AD8599 but Farnell won't accept credit card, RS don't sell them either sad.gif If this super secret opamp sounds nice, then I'll stick to it. If not there is LT1364.

I changed opamp few days ago, although I don't believe opamp burn-in I do hear sonic difference now, it started to sound warmer and mellow slightly from the day I solder it in smile.gif
