Why not apply using ur current company?

because it s very lengthy process to get MSC status approval

the reason why u want to setup an msc is for the tax free status. if u buy one over (old ones) there is a high chance it is either over, or going to be over

Last I recalled, the perks of MSC goes beyond just tax free for few years. My company applied for it last time cause we wanted to have unlimited foreigners in the company without needing to worry about bumi quota.

there is no such thing as bumi quota for office work, tech and other typical tech related industry.

What about better chances to win govt tenders?

not all gov tenders requires bumi, although there is a % of gov tenders requires it. most gov body list their tenders with the requirements.
having an msc status company still does not qualify you as a bumi company as you need 51% bumi over ship.

most tech based does not require bumi.

FYI the tax-free portion of an MSC company is tied to the nature of business when you first make the application.

A MSC company could be in the business of (1) re-selling payroll software from overseas AND (2) developing & selling Point-of-Sales software with GST billing.

Business of reselling does not enjoy MSC benefits, but developing and selling own software does, so only (2) would get tax free.

If you buy a MSC company that is in the business of (1) & (2), your business of payroll software for example, will not gain tax-free.. you will still need to make an application to update MDEC on your new business for them to recognise it as an activity that gets tax-free income.

And reselling software is not considered MSC company.

So unless the MSC company you're buying is doing exactly what you are doing, you still need to write in to MDEC.
