Kingston will do just fine. I have use Kingston for quite long, and no problem so far. and my default ram is hynix (never heard of this name lol)

because you have another hidden partition for recovery. make sure you create the recovery cd/dvd once you just start your vaio. cheers.

about price, cant get much different since sony control the price. so just get the second-hand one, mentioned by earlier forumer.
and yeah, avoid buying those 1gb from sony lol... you can get 2 pieces of 1gb ddr 667 stick lol.
about C-series, built to be tough lol.

perhaps a good ventilation system (d.i.y one) might help you. i dont have sz series, i cant complain much. though through the review i read,
the one i post before jason, the user dont faced any overheating problem for vaio. and seriously, it's also rare case for vaio to overheating. i have done the survey through forum, especially, notebook's forum.

besides, sz series is popular series in US for vaio.

any vaio'er (sz user) out there mind give a short review about the lappy?

try do more survey jason. good luck in finding best laptop that suit your need!

easy, the sz series is slim and light lappy (with camera built in) while the c series is a lil bit bulky(i mean here is , thick), though both built tough. no worry. all vaio lappy built (casing) made with either carbon fiber or magnesium alloy material.

the theory is easy, the more slim, light lappy with decent performance in term of battery supply, or working with office stuff, the price can be incredibly expensive, even with only integrated gfx.

well, to think back, there only 2 complaints for sz in lowyat forum, though,
1 for customer service at one sonystyle (forgot where) due to some hardware defects, another is heat due to gaming? (perhaps a heavy gaming)..
so not big deal. i only heard about the bloatware install with the sz from my US friend. others, just perfect

meh, all brand not perfect la, even the alienware sometime having overheating problem

so depend on your lucky charm >.>;

regarding c series, just use power saver scheme lah for longer batt life and yeh, no time ;(

battery test:
hehe today i did some test to see how well my lappy handle the batt using power saver scheme. my batt. status was at 70%. i manage to get enjoy the lappy (mean here, not gaming ) just casual surfing, messenger, irc chat, utorrent on(from the start) for about 2 hours 30mins. so imagine, how many hours will be if i charge my batt 100%?

i still have about 17% for batt life. since my torrent already done, and i have to go out shopping, now excuse me to turn off the lappy

conclusion, i love the battery performance, thank you sony lol XD

dont worry much about vista, if you dealing most with office stuff, no problem. ms office 2003 still works charm, and many more software is going to be friendly with vista.

and gaming, i just try out stalker, no conflict and so on.

the only problem arise, if you do stuff like programming. the compiler is still hard to find the compatibility with vista..

nope, i have enough hdd space. anyway, if you intend to change the hdd to large volume, make sure you make the recovery discs, and backup the driver , just in case.

^ usually lappy with dedicated graphic need high performance battery.
i can run up to 3 hours (integrated gfx). my friend lappy with atix1600 can only long for 1 hour 30 mins.

thats why, if the graphic card is switchable like the sz-series, it will become more convenient if you want to travel with your lappy while having the functionailty to play game.

not sure about that. my vaio come with vista >.>;

and i suggest you try lurking eu club vaio forum. even the series number is a lil. bit difference, but it still the same specification. only a minor changes (hdd, ram etc)

i get my vaio is unexpected though. it was a gift.. i wish it is a toshiba or hp lol.

on the other side note, sony is giving away it's c-series again.

just wanna share some tips on getting difference series of vaio notebook driver.

when you click on the driver software (on the first page) with proceed button(if im not mistake), go to your Windows folder first, C:\Windows , look for this file: Model.txt.

Simply change the model number (if yours is VGN-FE38GP) it will stated there. just change that number of your own there with the driver's series number. after that save. and go back to your installation window, proceed the installation as usual.

lol, somehow i cant imagine sony did this for driver validation..

maybe because of demand and price tag for it. just for example, the 007 tx series which not available in malaysia. besides, in malaysia, not many people used vaio rather than people in us, europe, japan.

currently, i can see they (sony malaysia/sony corp.) trying their best to promote the "affordable" c-series value among the teenager through contests, just to give people first glance about vaio and it's so called design.

just my opinion only la lol.

erm, just make sure it's fall in the same class for the driver, lets say, FE-series, just grab the FE series one. and also, it's not likely to be available in Windows folder, till you click to install the software. More likely auto generate, and when you proceed, that txt files will do a reference to do check on the driver, thats why some of you get the message saying " The driver is not for your machine".
if the problem arise still, then it's just mystery lol ;9

FE = less batt life, SZ = more mobility,long batt life etc. and dell, not sure that one. but the laptop is decent too since the XPS is known to be high in quality.
