I live in a house which 10 ppl share 4mbps wifi . My room is the furthest from the wifi modem . So , the signal in my room is always poor when many people are using it . The speed i receive normally only up to 40kbps when many people using it , and the signal is not the good , it will dc quite often .
When i go near the wifi modem , i can receive up to 100kbps speed. So , i am thinking of getting a wifi repeater , will i get better signal and speed ?

when all 10 people is online at the same time at average in best effort each could only get 40k dl speed.

Get the repeater so you get a stronger signal and with it comes slightly better speed. A weak signal will be around 1M on 11b standard vs 54M on 11g

try changing your router or add an access point/repeater to get more coverage.

since u said u will getting disconnect when there are many people using, mayb your router cant support too many traffic and user simultaneously.

u use what router?

for slow speed issue, i think it is quite normal if there are many user on 4mbps, some more there is no qos to control the traffic will cause user compete with each other for bandwidth and lead to network instability.

tm stock router dont has qos, for bandwidth control, u need to get some 3rd party router for this.

while for coverage, either get a wifi repeater or use powerline.

2 solutions for your current situation:

first solution, upgrade router that supports QoS and bandwidth control, at the same time, better wifi coverage antenna

2nd solution, buy a home plug ethernet - Google and YouTube is your best friend - https://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...meplug+ethernet

have you changed your router? if no, can get archer D2 to get more coverage on your home.

if yes, then TL-WA855RE also can help extend your wifi range

I know that the wifi repeater will help to boost the signal , but will it help to boost the speed ? i use wifi at a place that is far fom the modem . I found that those who use the wifi closer to the modem can enjoy faster speed. That's why i hope the wifi repeater will enable me to enjoy the faster speed same as those who use wifi closer to the modem

the speed will be halved for the repeater.

the powerline's wifi shouldnt be halved if i rmb correctly.
