I am in senior position and looking to change to a different career field. I understand company sure want someone relevant experience as a candidate so will be super difficult to change field.

Is it close to 0 chance if I request salary same as my current job or I will need to go back to freshie salary if decide to change field?

haha, really sounds totally opposite
however, your technical field is not related to supporting HR?

Totally not related but I have some university experience in the job. My concern is that even if they find me suitable will my salary be the block? Due to my technical position is senior salary liao. Do I have to lower to junior salary?

1 more question, is it in the same company?
if not, then it is almost a certainty that you will not get back the same senior pay UNLESS the package of the HR position offered is comparable to your current one. so that would mean either 2 things, your current pay sucks OR the hiring company has really good pay package laugh.gif

cheers and good luck

why not try internal transfer to HR, then only jump ship. That way will be easier. BUt if the HR job is very much technical, like hiring for oil and gas candidate etc, you may have a chance

Answer is a definite YES. Don't even think of asking for high pay when you don't hv experience in the "unrelated job". How lower depends on how different it is to your current job.

Good la if is general HR, that is where most of the freshies get to learn things from there. If you start HR and learn all the specific stuff, you are not all rounded HR. At least now there's a platform for you to learn all the HR related stuff without moving to another company.

Talk to your supervisor. See his reaction. laugh.gif

What is it in HR that interests you, since you come from a technical background ?

Have you spoken to anyone to understand what the job requires and what are the pros and cons of being in HR ? Asking this because many people have a perceived idea of a job scope which could be different (or even entirely opposite) from what the reality is.

wow,that's a total change.
It all depends on how you "sell yourself" during the interview. If you can convince them that with your years of experience on the floor will be a contributing factor to understand personnels then obviously your future employer would appreciate your experience and would expect you to perform better when he hires you in HR.

I'm sure being in a senior position in engineering, you will have at least a diploma or a high school cert or better still a degree.
With those qualifications,if you're really serious enough like you say,you can start off as a clerk.

I have masters degree but it doesn't matter. Of course I can start off as a clerk and no problem with that. But to be realistic I need to at least maintain my income and I don't think company will pay senior salary for a clerk position. That is my dilemma. I don't mind no increment from current if able to jump but seems reality it is not so easy so want to get advice if it is actually impossible?

So basically you want to get paid a masters degree holder(Engineering) salary but work as a junior in the HR department.
All I can say is NO WAY(read IMPOSSIBLE) you can find a company that does that.
So stop chasing that dream and be a bit more realistic with what you want.
Just be thankful that you still have a high paying job now as the situation(economically) is not getting any better in the near future.
If you have a family now, think of them first.

My opinion is to stay in current company. Mean while waiting for the vacancy in HR.
You're a key member and i believe your boss will be relunctant to let you go especially if the team is no mature/ skill enough.
You request will be only entertain with term and condition met:
1. The technical team must be adequent and mature enough.
2. The HR team has a vacancy example: Manager/ assistant manager left the position. Step up and challenge the position.

Remain your salary even if you interview somewhere else for different field. Bcos it represent your capability, confident and worth value. Remember you not in deperate situation, you're just looking for career enchancement.

Taking care of office supply is an admin job or just a HR assistant job. Not executive level.

Since you are interested in talent acquisition, why don't you start in a recruitment agency first? Learn the tricks and trade for recruiting. You already posses the knowledge and understand the technical jargon.

Most of the MNC agency are open to recruit non-HR graduate provided they have the soft-skills to become Recruiter. You can move from there.

Good luck..
