Hi ppl,

i just bought this Samsung DVD-HD860 HDMI DVD Player from HSL yesterday. Then i come back home and plug the HDMI cable from the DVD player to my Samsung LA32R71B LCD TV. Then i insert a DVD movie (ahem) and start playing it. Then right after 5 mins, the DVD Player shut down automatically. then i try on on it back again, but my LCD TV displayed 'no signal'. Then i restart the DVD Player and my LCD TV and start the DVD movie. It runs, and this time, less than 5 mins, the DVD player shut down automatically.

then i guess it is because of ahem DVDs, so i inserted my original DVD. the same situation happend again.. i checked the manuals then i found out this player only play the same region with the dvd (whereby the dvd is reigon 3). So, i insert my dvd (reigon 3) and the same thing happened again.. i inserted vcd movie, also same thing happen

then i started to think the settings or resolution isnt supprted. (i tought my LCD can bear 720p and 1080i) i try to downscale to normal resolution. the same thing happened again. i try to disable progressive out, the same thing happen again..

i try to use normal video cable (yellow), and the same thing happen.

before i call HSL or Samsung, i wish to know why this syndrom happened? can it be fixed?

and if i send back, i get full refund or exchange?

update:

i went back to HSL yesterday after work. Checked the dvd player there and they confirm has some technical problem occurs. So, they agree to change to new set. thank god smile.gif

actually my set (which is faulty) seems to be lighter than the normal set. I guess they forgotten to put some components during the manufacturing process smile.gif

So, the DVD player is working fine, no problems what-so-ever.. The quality somehow better than the faulty set. when upscale to 1080i, the quality much much better.

i recommend this DVD-HD860 player to those who seek for an affordable HDMI (upscale capabilities) dvd player. It pairs nicely with my LA32R71B Samsung LCD TV.

its in the range, retail is 488.

hack output to 1080i/720p? what you mean by that? i taught almost all HDMI dvd player has component output and able to project 1080i or 720p. cannot aa?

1 question, why almost all display (DVD player/ht & HDTV) in the store uses component as their output, not HDMI? is it cheaper or what?

No. It wldnt output via component. There was certain codes to be entered to hack it as on HD850.

For your case, it's not important. Why use component when you have HDMI, right? The hacked output can only be done on a few types of dvd players, most dvd players will only upscale via HDMI only.

Just to share I got my hd 860 for bout 400 in klana jaya, just my view i also paired it witm my samsung 32r7 and to tell the truth i was a bit disapointed with the audio and video output.

The video (using the bundled hdmi cable) was not as sharp as expected, the image and skin tone was distorted. I even used the build in upscale of 1080 and yet the pic is not up to expectations (DVD used Cars/Bugs Life/Nemos/Monster Inc). Not satistified i bought a Panasonic HDMI cable, still it does have minimal % up in pic quality. Tried to manually calibrate my lcd and result was non satisfactory. Used my old faithful Toshiba SDK 350 on my Samsung and the pic quality is tremedous... using only the S video and the Component out put. (bear in mind i bought the Tosh in 2000 for rm 1.5K).
Audio = Used HDMI out to TV = no ummph,
Used Toshlink via amp = the sound was light and does not have enough weight, the scence in The Day After Tommorrow does not rattle enough. All in all I managed to convince the shop and exchange it with other thing and yes hehehe I did managed.
summary = as hdmi is still at its infant stage and you are really in to Pic Quality pls do some hw and test test test.... hmmm i might check the sony 76 ..... my samsung is yearning to be bonked with a hdmi cable...

I own a HD860 too. for me the result is quite good. Tested on nemo too and compare with my previous pioneer DVD player the PQ is like snowy on salt water scene. But when I hook up to HD860 on HDMI 1080i the PQ was like 3D image. thumbup.gif

I got the HD860 and if you try to play audio cd with HDMI connected and the TV is off, the player will randomly freezed.... sometime, the player just reset to default setting without reason... i tested 2 unit and looks like it has a software or design fault... anyone mind to test their unit and report here... thanks
