I hope someone can me some advice on this.

Can anyone recommend a reliable, reasonably priced workshop that's experienced in replacing Wira gearbox in KL/PJ area.

I have a 10 yr old Wira 1.6 auto whose gearbox just conked out. I've already changed it twice in 2 years. I have learnt my lesson - if you buy a car with auto transmission, get rid of it before it reaches 10 yrs old. Anyway since I'm stuck with it now, I'm considering changing it to a manual gearbox.

I don't need a fancy racing transmission, just a normal one will do. Its just an old car that my family uses to go to the market. Also if anyone knows around how much such a auto to manual conversion might cost, I would appreciate the information. One workshop I called quoted RM2,200 (second hand gearbox + parts + labour) and it seemed a bit high for me. Thanks.

The thing is I don't know where to get such things. Sometimes workshop mechanics are not the most honest people. Any advice where to get?

4G61 isit suit a wira's mounting.
yet its stock engine is a 4G92 SOHC.. i think its still better than the old 4G61. not worth changing at all.

if your engine is good, rather juz change the manual trans is better. Good luck.. its no easy to find a F5M222 gearbox. for 1.6. unless u go for a 1.5 one F5M221 .. not a good idea i guess

some mechs can source out the parts for you, so if you don't want to trouble yourself just do like what you did, ask mechs around.
gearboxes can get from halfcut shops, a lot in puchong, subang & certain other places. no need to change engine lah, if the engine is fine can go market oso.. but suit yourself
