hey, groundhog day was good. If I remembered correctly it starred Bill Murray. Story about everyday repeating till he did some good. Should be able to get it on DVD.

Alex Ross' Justice a bit rushed. Not like Kingdom Come taking time to build up. Too many players, too much story to tell. Sort of like who's who. May get lost if you not familiar with the other characters..
If into his artwork please do try get Marvels and Terminator: the Burning Earth..
Single issues only if possible. That's what I collect.

Anyone seen Groundhog Day?

Back to comics, what is the opinion in Alex Ross' Justice? Kingdom Come?

Hey, I agree with you. i started seriously collecting comics in 1988 up till now. Still not retired yet because Comics will always be a part of my life. I used to get it from the Mindshop before i moved to singapore to work. Rate then was 3.5x US cover price. It was a good time then as cover price for comics were mostly between Usd1 to Usd1.95. Only the prestige format most expensive like The Dark Knight Returns.
I still collect single issues because the excitement of waiting for the next issue will always be there.
And hunting for back issues now is easier than last time because of the internet. ha ha.
But of course the drawback is super expensive price for certain titles like Miracleman. Which took me 15 years to complete the 24 issues.
My collection now hovers around 10k for single issues. Storage is starting to be a problem.
The only thing is to make a rack for those comic boxes. Anyone out there with storage problem also?

Most of us retired from comics because of the rising prices or maybe we've grown out of it. A lot of the comic's specialty shops close down after the comic boom in the late 90's. Nowadays, one simple comic's book cost about RM12 and I'm sure a hardcore reader will not only buy one book.  tongue.gif

Furthermore, the influx of manga books and those HK translated comics worsen the situation for American and English comics to survive.  blush.gif

I still treasure all those comics I bought during that comic boom era. In my humble opinion, story like Onslaught, AoA or Kingdom Come is still the best compared to stories that come out now.  cool2.gif

I've completed my Have and Wish list. It's not that many. I have about 300+ and wish about 50 more to complete my collection.  brows.gif

Thank you every one for your input. Now, if only I knew how to upload those lists here in this forum, I will post it as soon as possible.  whistling.gif

Hello sir,
Am glad there are still people who like to collect thin comics like me. Thin comics is also known as single issues. Memories are made of them. Just remember to bag and board them up nicely. Give them the mylite or mylar treatment where possible.
Included some pics if you interested in reading good stories. Find them and read them if possible.

Hi Guys!
Glad could find an active comic thread out here in good ol LYN! actually i was hoping you guys could help me out, I was wondering if we could compile a list of the comic shops in Klang valley or even Malaysia. Wonder where u guys in penang buy ur comics from? Don't tell me everyone buys it from Ebay? anyway...i just started collecting comics about 2 years ago, and i have about 70% of the whole civil war colection..yes..im one of the suckers who enjoy collecting the thin comics(waddaya call em?)...seldom buy TPB or even HC..hahaha
Anyway, the shop i go to is Comics Corner in SS15. The malay guy there is kinda knowledgeable but they seem to always run out fo the good popular comics..serves me right for going there once a month..haha. Iwas hoping to source my comics from other shops..the one in mid valley seldom stock up the thin comics(gee, i really dunno wats it called) and they take a long time to order stuff. SO guys, hope u can help out a buddy here and provide some good reliable comics shop address!

Thanks! will try to list down my collection sometime soon!
maybe we can do some small gathering and compare comics or sumthin! haha..thisis so geek culture...but i love it

Dude, your storage rack rocks! Cool man
Wish can do it like yours which is quite an idea there

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. If you do get one please do make sure each rack is able to withstand at least 150kg. And is made of hi grade aluminium. If those compress wood type will start to give problem later on as the wood break down..

Anyway, does anybody out there have any Cgc collection?
Is there anymore of the Mcfarlane spider-man #1? The Cgc issues are the platinum issue and the Gold with barcode. Able to get them at 8.5 only.

Bro, can u snap a close ups picture of the rack
may be i can learn from u how to make great rack like yours

yours customised eh?
I recognise familiar steel there i guess

Hi,
Thanks for the comment. Been collecting comics for half my lifetime. I think you can get those rack from suppliers who make storage racks. Shop around first. Remember to take measurements. Some come ready made. i prefer those with butterfly clip without nuts and bolts so you don't have to tighten them regularly.
Lastly, please make sure that each level able to hold at least 150kgs. Not light when the comic boxes are packed. that is why wood may topple or bend.

MCtea13, dude...ur collection and condition..woah much?..my collection back in the 90s are mostly..destroyed..serves me right for just stacking it up in the attic...and it's good to hear that there are single issue collector still...i, like u collect the single monthly issue..

btw..to all..i guess Comics Mart @ midval is starting to get up on its feet again..apparently everything went to hell after the regular front desk lady quit.it seems ok now since i'm getting my monthly comics again ..so if intrested..drop by there..

No really keep track. I estimate to be around 10 to 11k for single issues. Seldom buy HC or TPBK. Don't know why. Every issue bagged and boarded. I also like to collect variants. So for issues like civil war which I collect I will also have every covers for all the seven issues. Variants, sketch and sometimes those aspen variants included. Quite hardcore sometimes.
I still remember last time don't have this type of thing. It's either bar-coded or non bar-coded. Now all those 1 in 25, 50, 75, 100, 500 and 1000. And retailer special.
Maybe milking all of us dry. Last time the compilation will take forever to release. Nowadays it will come out after major story arc. Spoil the market sometimes.

Thanks for close-up pix

BTW, what type of material u use for the base of the rack that hold 150kgs hmm.gif
Is it solid wood or solid steel?
*
The whole rack is made of hi grade aluminium i think. Even the rack base and each rack layer. Please make sure the legs have rubber pads to support all the weight. It's not the whole rack combine 150kgs but each rack layer can hold 150kgs. If you carry a full short box you will know how heavy it is. Imagine if need to support 4 boxes. If use wood type, over time the wood will deform, bend and break.

hi,
How much is the member fees now? I use to order from the mind shop when i was still studying back in 88. The shop was in KL plaza then before they move to starhill. Way back before Bintang walk. ha ha.. Btw, is Iris still working there? Please tell her K196 send his regards.. Thanks..
Wish you a good time collecting comics. I'm sure you'll enjoy reading them. Sometimes there are hidden messages in the artwork of certain artists. It's quite fun.

RM10 membership fee? that has doubled over the last couple of years.

two years back the membership was RM5, and i tell you it's definitely worth it considering the discounts you receive.

no idea about the chinese guy, but the old lady has been there since forever, not sure if she's the owner though.

anyway, i was a member already as well back in the days when mind shop was in kl plaza, which then moved to 1 utama before finally settling down in centrepoint. back then, mindshop has about 4 branches, if i've not mistaken, and due to the inpopularity of comic collection in malaysia, they've closed down one by one, such a sad case.

I think the lady with the specs is Iris. One of the older employee there. If the chinese guy with a bit of white hair should be the boss.

Yeah hidden message especially in Grant Morrison's run in New X-Men.  Haha.. still can't find all the hidden --X in that issue.

Yup, me too. Sometimes just have to look closely. The words is jumbled up with the background. Same with Groo. The not a secret message thing. ha ha.

The cheapest comic I bought is RM2-50 for Uncanny X-Men # 248.  Now Uncanny X-Men is closing into # 500.

The casts : Rogue, Storm, Psylocke, Colossus, Havok and Wolverine.  Polaris is being possessed by Malice and joined Marauders.  X-Factor consists of original 5's.

Now : Multiple X-Titles, Prof X is not actually so clean.  Jean Grey is still dead!  Emma Frost is Cyclops' girl ?  That is changes.

Maybe the local comic shop should seek a weekly column and web-space to promote Comics or else being risked to die of slow death.
*
Does the Star still have a column on comics on friday? Use to be witten by Kaleon Rahan. I agree with you on comics promotion. The public should be aware that comics can be a good medium for passing messages across. Anybody still remember the APAZINE thing back in 88-89?
I still have my copy. ha ha. sure bring back memories..
I guess what we can do is to have a roadshow or exhibition on comics to create awareness and make comics fun to collect again. Whether it be in Chinese, English, Malay or in their translation form.
We can try get some of those local artist to attend signing like a certain Mr Tan or Milk.
Should be interesting to see how many people will turn out.

so did u read it ?? how was the ending ??

In Marvel Zombies volume 1, the zombies started with the Sentry being the first to be infected. Whoever gets bitten will turn into a zombie. Due to their super powered nature, the whole marvel universe became zombies in a matter of days. With only a handful of survivors led by Magneto.
As the uninfected slug it out with the infected, along came Galactus. He too was overwhelmed by the zombies. At the end of volume 1, some of the zombies already possess the power of Galactus after eating him. As they roam their known universe for food, No one is able to stop them.

In volume 2, the zombies return to their earth in search of food. As food is already scarce, there are a certain faction who is against eating the remaining survivors. Yup, zombies civil war...
They also fight over the teleporter which is able to send them to other parallel universe for food. End of volume 2 have Magneto teleporting the remaining zombies away to (maybe earth 616 as the ultimate universe does not cross the zombies universe for another 50 billion years). Watch out for Zombies volume 3..

Question time, at the end of issue 32 of Ultimate FF, Ultimate Dr Doom was teleported to the zombie universe. Since he is made of pure metal he cannot be infected but there is no mention of him in Marvel Zombies. Anybody out there have any ideas?
Since the source is terrestial and not supernatural in nature, there may be a way to reverse the process. It was revealed later on that Magneto was responsible for the outbreak. He may have the cure.
I still don't understand why wolverine is able to be infected since he has a healing factor. Same with thor and the hulk..
