has anyone have/had any experience with the new BOX heavy burnt orange switches? been looking on getting a switch tester and throwing a couple zealios/BOX/tealios switches on em.

plan to build my own 96key (kira96 maybe or whenever Duck decides to do a GB) or 1800 next year so taking my time to save and research huhuhu

currently using Anne Pro w/Gateron Browns. I used to have a CODE 104 w/MX Clears but gave it away (don't ask why sad.gif )

P/S - I'm a linear/tactile guy, clicky for home maybe but for work has to be silent~ish

I think you can look at Leopold FC980M.
Ultimate.Zone did sell them previously. Perhaps you can ask them about it. Last I asked it was selling for around RM539.

aiseh... super blur case me... I thought I was using box black for my space bar and actually I was using box brown. So, I switched it last night and it's slightly better. Or maybe it's just placebo. hahaha... Them sponges in the space bar always keep popping out. A pain to always have to poke them back in. sigh...

I also switched back to Cherry profile PBTs instead of the GMKs ABS. Sounds definitely better now. Not just the space bar, everything sounds better. Generally, I think I like the sound of linears better than tactile/clicky. They sound more solid definitely.

So the project for this weekend will be lubing, clipping and also placing some sound dampening material in the case. smile.gif

tbh the best is getting screw in genuine cherry stabs, getting them lubed, clipped, and band-aid modded is the best way to fix any sort of rattle

hello and welcome. i am also like you in terms of learning stuff about mkbs haha it's been quite a while, but it's really a nice journey.

hopefully one day i have time to build some boards for myself too.

(now you have mentioned it i still have some bags of switches untouched, including gat yellow)
hehe thanks, THERE IS NO ENDGAME rclxm9.gif
the thing for us is that because kustoms are so expensive, its either we get gud at soldering (which parts are exp too!) so that we can do as we like, or we have to resort to tester boards before buying one and keeping it for life lol
the market isnt that big enough for kustoms imo

Don't think I can do the screw in stabs as GK64 stabs are plate mounted (or it is changeable? haha... >_<). I read about the band-aid fix/mod as well. Clipping and band-aid will be the next round of mod! smile.gif

ohhh gk64, yeah plate mount is tougher, but probably genuine cherry stabs is the first step, then the 3 mods will probably set you up for life lol biggrin.gif

hehe yes there is really no endgame. it's like when i wanted to settle for what i thought a good fit for myself, there is always something new coming up lol

skills can be improved over time with practice. (with tester boards or other means) the more important part is to make sure outcomes work fine. i have tried few times, and my work was bad, but they worked hehe

as for the costs, yes it's relatively high if you are serious about making good boards for yourself. (still, it's really not that high if you compared to some other hobbies)

the custom board market is always a niche market. not many are interested in building one because of a number of reasons. costs might be a significant one, especially where there is a learning curve about each component in the board, if you really wanna know most options that you can have in a more practical way. however the recent introduction of affordable CIY boards makes the learning process a relatively painless and time-saving one.

actually true sifus here have suggested a number of nice and affordable prebuilts to help build up a good reference for noobs (i.e. what makes a good board, qualities and characteristics of components that we need to pay attention to, etc. not just superficial stuff like price), but it still take a while for them to get it (like me lol)

i think when one is getting into the game, you really need to start with either a hotswap board like the gk64/61 if youre serious on switches, or if you just wanna dip your feet in, the regulars (ducky, tecware, cm masterkeys/qfr, etc) are decent options

also finding decent soldering station/irons that is hakko compatible and has decent performance at a low price is hard to find i guess, so the bar of entry to making your own custom isnt very low either :<
there isnt much options besides aliexpress (or taobao if you can work out its shipping puke.gif )
