UNDERSTAND THE WINDOW FILM MATERIAL
DYE WINDOW FILM
These films have dark tinted appearance. They do little for heat control. They are at best for glare reduction and privacy purpose.Low end dyed films tend to turn purple and bubbles when exposed to the sun. Dyed films are the cheapest and at the lowest end of the market.
NON-METAL WINDOW FILM
Non-metal films typically use IR absorbing dye in the form of nano-particles or ceramic. IR dyes made by low cost manufacturers run the risk of losing its performance within a short period of time under prolonged exposure to the sun. These films will look relatively clear, with VLT ranging from 50-80%. They turn yellow due to particles migration and their performance fades over time.
Non-metal such as ceramic based films are touted for their durability. They have higher heat absorption rate than metalized films. Higher absorption factor contributes to higher probability of thermal breakage and higher incidence of re-emittance of solar heat into the cabin. The single layer ceramic products have relatively higher visible light reflectance (”mirror-like” reflection). They tend to have a darker tint, sacrificing daylight and cost more than common metals.
COMMON METAL WINDOW FILM
Metalized films use metals such as aluminium, titanium, stainless steel, nickel, bronze. They have “mirror-like” reflection. Depending on the traffic regulation, such films may not be permissible by law in some countries. Metalized films are not ‘clear’. They cut off heat by cutting off visible light at the same time. These films introduce “mirror-like” reflection which does not promote safe driving. Metalized films are slightly more expensive than dyed. The production method is relatively similar to that of producing the reflective packaging wrap for ‘potato chips’. Such films are also prone to oxidization if not installed well.
ADVANCE RARE METALS WINDOW FILM
V-KOOL®, the only film incorporated at European OEM level by the leading car makers and validated by the German engineers underwent stringent qualification tests for performance and durability. Made of advance rare metals and dielectrics, V-KOOL® uses the expensive and precious Indium Oxide and Silver targets which are vacuum deposited on the world’s top 1% grade of polyester. It is further fortified with Gold to enhance its robustness and durability.
