This next announcement is specifically for those who are looking for good deals regarding HDTVs, or those looking for one. After discussing the possibilities of what they could extend to the forum crowd here, they are eager to tap into the market here for those who are looking for special prices on LCD TVs as well as Plasmas. Garry, the executive manager there, agreed on extending this offer to the forum populace here:- For all the prices of their HDTVs being sold in their stores, we forum members of Lowyat.net will get those HDTVs sold a pricetags below retail price than those specified at the store. How much lower depends on the unit you are buying. Mediaplex is also extending a special bulk prices, or for those power buyers who are buying more than just one unit of LCD TV/Plasma at their store. After discussing how they are going to identify who is forum member here, to make sure you are eligible for this special prices, (this was not determined by me), Garry suggested that each forum members interested to take up these offers to go through me to identify if you are really from the forum to take up these offer. This is to avoid other mischiefs and complications that arise later from non-forum folks who might have overheard about this, and wanting to take advantage of it. This also helps in bringing Lowyat.net forum into the limelight, and to encourage member joining and taking up participation in the forum as well.

Mediaplex offers this, you, the Lowyat.net forum member community, to name your LCD TVs/Plasma/Projectors/Home Theatre Equipment of your choice, state the model number, and if you have done research, the price you found some place else, and they will better it! If they cannot better it, they will match it, and throw something else on top of your purchase.

I initially wanted a list of what's currently available at their showroom, but seeing how they can hold of items not even in their showroom, your choices are practically limitless. Heck, they can even get for me the Yamaha 2700 series Network Receiver! shocking.gif

Again, as a reminder, you need to identify yourself as a LYN forum member, which is at the moment, since we dont have member cards or anything to tell us who we are in the forum, will have to take up identification through another forum member. Any other suggestion to make this process more managable/comfortable, i am all ears. notworthy.gif

So, if you'd like to take up this offer, start doing your research on which screens, which display medium, which home theatre equipment that you have been wanting to get all this while, look around for your best best price, and Mediaplex will better it at a lower price, or if they cant, they will match it and throw something on top of your purchase. For those wanting even LOWER prices, gather a group of friends, and do a POWER BUY, which is a bulk order of a same unit, for even more savings. Whatever it is, everyone is most welcomed to view all the items being offered at Mediaplex KLCC showroom, in KLCC for more details. This offer requires identification of your forum member status and validity through yours truly, but that is a small hassle compared to the huge savings and excellent quality services you will get from these guys at Mediaplex, i guarantee it!

Addendum: Mediaplex KLCC do provide Zero % installment plans for your purchases, these are the banks that offer this facility :- Maybank, UOB, Citibank, Eon Bank and Alliance. Those are the major credit card banking facility that provides it, i will get back here with the other smaller banks that provide the sme facility if any. Garry was very busy when i called in to enquire.

Addendum: I gain absolutely nothing from this. not even commission. All i ask was them allowing me to continue updating them with the latest news on whats new on Bluray/HD-DVD, PS3 and the videogaming business. Which is why they allowed that Wii Playtest yesterday in the first place.

They are also more than happy to let you see and try out the latest in projector technology with their new model offerings in their Auditorium. I am also providing them with titles to view on their projector room in the Auditorium, but it is main Bluray at them moment. The HD-DVD player has been relegated to the showroom floor connected to the Hitachi Plasma. So feel free to come and drop by, i shall be updating this thread once i have new and exciting Bluray titles to showcase in their Auditorium. Perhaps with this presentation, you may be convinced that it is finally time to move beyond High Definition. smile.gif

They do, but i will have to get back to you, which credit card banks that offers this facility. I was offered a seductive trade-in price for my Bravia X to go for the 52 inch Sharp with zero percent installment on CC, but i think 52 incher in my room is overkill.

Tunggu kejap yea bang, getting the info now. Garry is being inundated with calls right now.

I could, but Mediaplex is like Harvey Norman, only with more happy-go-lucky people. I dont think they would want to work beyond office hours after work, and during work time, they will be swamped with customers and showroom duties. They also do digital signages, office mediasuite setups as well as AV/IT installations at customer premises as well, so all this take sup most, if not all of their time. Im helping them with the forum folks they saw that came for the HD-DVD/Bluray playtest recently that i organized, and they saw lots of interested parties there, and would like to extend their services to those who came that day. When i explained to them that they are from our forum, they asked if i could spread the news here. I can try and get one of them into the forum, but Garry isnt into computers, and the only guy who is, Allan, are mostly assigned with fitting AV equipment at customer premises.

I welcome any other suggestion to make this work. notworthy.gif

Mediaplex has the entire range at their showfloor IIANM, frlom their affordable 32 inchers to their bigger screen Plasmas. You will have to do a bit of research though before you decide on a particular unit, and once you have decided which one, get the cheapest pricetag you see on stores you have surveyed, and drop by Mediaplex KLCC. They will either better it, or match it with freebies thrown in for good measure. smile.gif

To avoid confusion on whether this thread ahould reside in the console section, this thread was intended PRIMARILY for those who are looking towards their next HDTV purchases for their consoles. The spill-effect of this is that Mediaplex also stocks in hometheatre equipments and AV-related products, so you can take similar advantages with the price offers/privileges extended to you as a LYN forum member, for these products as well.

Funny how those are marked as "Audiophiles" section, but includes HDTV enthusiasts as well? These forum markings are screwed!

Ngsumas, post here the cheapest price for that combo, and i'll make sure Mediaplex gets it and see what they can do with their own price. I think it is difficult for any retailer to match prices according to your own budget based on what you want. They can match your budget with what is available at that budget of yours, not lower it down further to match your expection, no?

Are you samus_ng's twin brother by the way?

LG's BH100 Hybrid player does not play HD-DVD properly, hence it does not and is not allowed to carry the HD-DVD logo on its player. HD-DVD player without proper interactive features playable is a gimped player. And it costs more than USD1000+ .

What? Even im cautious when it comes to that amount of money, even moreso when it comes to a crippled player. You must have tons of cash at your disposal.

well currently a bluray player for a pc will cost 2.8k so if it is about 4k 2 get a hybrid player it actually is quite okay buy then is HDDVD loses the high def war then it would be a wasteof money so i guess i dont need a player since my ps3 can play bluray perfectly well

You're easy to please. The most favourite type of customer any salesman can get. That is not a compliment.

HD-DVDs have special features like extras and behind the scenes videos, which are embedded in their In-Movie Experience (IME) or U-Control. This feature is crippled in the LG hybrid player. So you are saying you are willing to lose out on these extras already on your HD-DVD disc, when you play them on the hybrid player? You're the first person i know who are willing to lose out on things you have already bought.

Hmmm.... matching prices is a good start but a subjective one. Just like Carrefour, they have the same policy ... but in order to prove, have to show competitor's price from ads or prints.... which is not practical. Cheap prices are never on print ie. negotiated.

So how to prove negotiated price from competitor?

From experience, better price are found from electrical or smaller shops. Just the other day, asked Mediaplex about Denon 1930 player.... when they mentioned RM2500, I almost jumped back out the entrance. The first price I got over the phone (not even bargain yet) from shop in SS2, was RM1600.

oh yeah...i have to agree about this situation also....
the 1st plasma that i bought (from small electrical shop) was arnd 13K.........but whereas from big chain retailer at that time has a SRP of 15K.......thats 2K diff......
......i guess the only way that they gonna believe it is that they "act" like a customer and call those smaller electrical shop.....
...well...thats my 2 cents...

The LG so called 'combo' is already available in the market. Albeit as String has put it, it doesnt carry the HD DVD logo because it doesnt support the MANDATORY interactive feature of HDi. Meaning you can watch a HD DVD movie on it but you wont be able to change the car colour in Tokyo Drift for example.

I agree. Furthermore, it doesnt exhibit or represent the true capability of HD DVD. And oh you can get a PS3 and a HD DVD A2 for less than $1K so why on earth would you pay $1199 for the LG player?

Added on February 11, 2007, 1:55 am
QUOTE
well currently a bluray player for a pc will cost 2.8k so if it is about 4k 2 get a hybrid player it actually is quite okay buy then is HDDVD loses the high def war then it would be a wasteof money so i guess i dont need a player since my ps3 can play bluray perfectly well

well if you have a 1080p display yes. PS3 will play Blu-ray 'perfectly well'. If you only have a 1080i or 720p display that does 1080i , then you are screwed because PS3 does not let you do 1080i. Anything below 1080p will be downconvert to only 720p.

Added on February 11, 2007, 2:00 amand not to mention that if you do not have a HDMI receiver, mandatory 5.1 PCM lossless soundtracks on each Blu-ray disk will be channeled via toslink optical as a 2.0 channel of sound only. Its worst if the blu-ray title doesnt come with Dolby Digital or DTS track as you will be stucked with only the mandatory PCM at 2.0 channels. All this is because advance audio codec such as Dolby Digital Plus/ TrueHD and DTS HD/DTS HD Master is not mandatory in Blu-ray. Dolby Digital Plus and the lossless track of TrueHD are MANDATORY on HD DVD titles smile.gif

g5sim, please keep your antics in the other joke threads you created, this thread has no insinuation nor intention to be dragged into another of your HDDVD crusade. For your info, there are tons of us who agree that HDDVD is heading for the dumps, deal with it. AND that is from our own observations with physical players on our hands, not by reading articles and throwing victory jiggles on them. If you have nothing else to add, please shut the hell up, i mean it.

To the rest who are serious about your purchases, i will forward your queries to them via SMS. I am in Zurich, just touched down after 13 hour flight, and im not in jolly mood. Those who have things to bring to the table or queries to ask, please continue to do so here. Those who everything else on your mind, stay the fcuk away. I mean it.

This is a quote from an E-mail Mediaplex's Executive Director Mr. Tan sent me:

QUOTE
Thanks for your expression of support on the electronic front. The xxxxx xxxxx is tagged at RMxx,xxx and It is my wish that we extend a very special price to LYN community. So it is privately available at RMxx,xxx as long as referals come from within the community. I am in favor of creating more live at KLCC showroom by encouraging casual visits and lepak by any member who has a new material or comment to share i, or just to catch up and unwind over a few games. To kick start this, we plan to have a game competition in Mar/Apr in sessions of heats. Maybe xxx xxx xxxxxxxxxx xxxx xxxxx? The prize? lets start with a set of xxxxx xx xxxxxxxx ( worth RMxxxx), and grow from there. There will be no entry fees and entry will be limited to the first 32 applicants. Winner takes the price and will be given a plaque of recognition from Mediaplex.

Back to the list of items we carry. I am quite reliant on our retail staff for product and price information at the shop. On top of what you see in the shop, we carry a wider range of the same brands. Due to conservation policy, we do not display a wide variety of products even as we sell them. Electronics commodity age quite quickly and we learned our lessons. For a list of our products, you can ask Gary or any one at the store about the item that catches your attention.

I had to 'x' some stuff tongue.gif , Rahsia yang tidak boleh dibocorkan smile.gif

Discounts are not only for the item i asked for, but any products that they have smile.gif

But yeah read the bold part.

But for LYN discounts you would need to confirm your identity by string OR me. Just tell us when you are going to look at the stuff by PM or message (PM for my no.). Then, upon arrival tell the staff your LYN nick, and they will call us for confirmation.

Simple as that. smile.gif

just call it a balancing of BD hypes and misconceptions and you are helping spreading. Consumers deserve to hear both side of the story. Not one side selling overpriced product by means of intimidation. There is a ignore button feature you know smile.gif

Look, the whole thread was a representation of what happened and what the folks at Mediaplex feels about the two formats. THey relegated it from the Auditorium, and placed the PS3 in its place. What does that tell you? If you feel that is not right, feel free to come over and present your case there, put your HDDVD in its right place. Lowyat.net forums does not represent the entire AV enthusiast community in Malaysia, you dont have to be petrified if the majority here fancy things that arent your choice here. Dont go slitting your wrist just because everyone dont fancy your pathetic choice in life. rolleyes.gif

And can we agree that it is not Sony's fault that your godlike HDDVD player hadnt got enough exposure here, making the PS3 looking like a better HD solution. Go picketing and blow your trumpets in public, let them know about your award-winning HDDVD player. Sure, consumer deserves to hear both camps , but it is not Bluray's fault that the HDDVD people are dragging their arse when it comes to creating awareness here. Dont go blaming your camp's shortcomings on the other party.

Im serious, if you need to regurgitate the same HDDVD preachings we all have grown tired to hear, go do it on your own thread, create one yourself and go crazy there for all i care. Leave this thread, i grow numb by your incessant annoyance here.

I need this thread back on course, and to do that, you need to leave, your presence will only derail it from its intended target.

To those asking about the price of the items you asked, Mediaplex have greater flexibility when it comes to Sony-related HDTVs. Samsung and Sharp items would most probably stay retail, but will try their best to make your purchases worthwhile.

psp boy, what are your recommendations 4 a good HD DVD player ???
*
Basically it depends on what your are having and what your expectations are. Toshiba has several HD DVD players model that would fit everyone current HT set ups. Meaning you do not that to pay more for features that you are not going to be able to enjoy. Their players range from STREET PRICE - $350-$799 and currently have 6 models in the market and one upcoming model. The models are as following:

HD XA2: 1080p 5.1 Analogue output - Street Price: $799, MSRP: $999 (featuring Silicon Optic's Reon video processor)

HD A20: 1080p (no Analogue output) MSRP: $599 (upcoming in spring)

HD A2: 1080i (no Analogue output) Street Price: $429 MSRP: $499

HD XE1: 1080p 5.1 Analogue output (European version of the US HD XA2)

HD E1: 1080i (no Analogue output) (European version of the US HD A2)

HD XA1: 1080i 5.1 Analogue output - Street Price: $460 MSRP: $799

HD A1: 1080i 5.1 Analogue output - Street Price <$399 MSRP: $499

Take these into consideration deciding on a model. If you have a 1080p display or projector, feel free to pay more for the 1080p models. If you dont and do not plan to get one in the near future, a 1080i player would be sufficient. Same applies to the audio. If you have a HDMI receiver, you DO NOT need pay more for the models with Analogue output.

sumary:

if you have a 1080p display (especially bigger than 42in) or projector, the most matching models are the XA2 or A20. If you dont have a HDMI receiver and do not plan to get one (u know if you have just invest in a receiver without HDMI) then you would need the analogue output of the XA2. If you already have a HDMI receiver, the A20 would be more than enough.

Mind you that the general consensus among the early adoptor is that the XA2 is the BESTest ever tongue.gif upconvert player for Standard DVD in the market. Its unbeatable in whatsoever price range smile.gif . Do basically if you get this one, there is little reason to replace your Standard DVD library with hidef one. You only need to get new titles on hidef.

string & psp_BOY, why don't u also consider doing it this way - interested forumers can PM you their mobile phone number, which u can then fwd to Mediaplex. When they are at the showroom, Mediaplex can call the number, mobile rings, and that should be sufficient authentication. All the best with your endeavours. Good for the community.

This thread is filling up with questions and what nots.

It's better to compile all the AV/Hifi model no's in the first page and with the best quotation from Mediaplex, this way everyone can see, instead of flipping thru the pages.

Just got back from staying over at a pretty isolated Swiss countryside, didnt got time to check things here.

Compiling the entire pricelist would be a huge task for anyone, and me and psp_boy am doing this for basically nothing. What i would suggest is the intended party to look around for the lowest price they can find on their intended product and Mediaplex will match or lower that.

Also got news for PS3 potential owners, Garry of Mediaplex KLCC has extended this deal to all LYN community member:-

Buy the Samsung LA52F71B 52-inch 1080p LCD HDTV and get a FREE Sony PLAYTSTATION© 3 60Gb Asian version!

Buy the SAMSUNG LA46F71B 46 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV and you get a Sony PLAYSTATION© 3 60Gb Asian version with this LCD TV by topping up only RM999!

Buy the Samsung LA40F71B 40 inch 1080p LCD HDTV and you get a Sony PLAYSTATION(3) 3 60Gb Asian version with this LCD TV by topping up only RM1499!

If this is not the best time to get yourself a PS3, i dont know when is! thumbup.gif

Maybe they should start with that pricing. If not mistaken, a shop in City Bazaar is selling at RM2200 region.

Fyi, the best price policy is no longer exclusive to LY members. It's open to all... the public.

Got banner at front door saying they can match any price within 2 weeks of purchase (similar to Carrefour). And they seem to be having price slashing on existing stocks.

Probably because i told them that Mediaplex's stuff are quite high in price and is losing many customers with that. Glad they did that. Bro Terra congrats on the purchase thumbup.gif hope you'll enjoy it smile.gif .

Lepaked with the folks at MEdiaplex, and was surprised to learn of their background, some are working two jobs...impressive and hardworking in my books. Mediaplex was swamped today, thanks to the other stores being closed. Mediaplex people, if you are reading this, i forgot to say thank you for all the kacang, kuacis, drinks and food you guys served today, you guys went above and beyond. Will bring you guys something from Paris when i get back Thursday. Sorry cant stay long, had a movie to catch, and "Music and Lyrics" is typical Hugh Grant movie, bloody funny and awesome!

I am looking for panasonic ax100, or any other native 720p projector out there within the price range of ax100. I got one quote, from Panasonic Malaysia and its for RM6990. There's a post around here from a an ax100 owner who got one for less than 6k. I'm happy enough if I can get one for 10% [<>RM6400] less of the price panasonic is quotiong for.

I'm open for suggestion regarding any alternative 720p projector within this price range.

Thank You

The Optoma HD70 can be had for less than 5.5k. Granted, it doesn't have the light output of the AX100 but its images are as good as the Panny. It's a good buy i must say smile.gif

tell him that its six time more pixels than regular dvd. The players are doing interactivities that we only see in futuristic science fiction movies tongue.gif .. u know .. painting different colours to racing cars in Tokyo Drift for example. Basically these are the two things that consumers would notice. Making bookmarks and transfer it through the internet to another player ... blink.gif . video commentaries ... On the sound thingy .. i dont think every consumer can different PCM, TrueHD and HD Master vs their younger brothers, Dolby Digital and DTS.

A compromised/odd resolution.. good for movies/games/tv.. but unable to display 1:1 pixels resolution for 720p/1080i at full screen. PC input maybe capable of 1360x768 res.. with only horizontal six pixels/line being stretch?/not.. with minimal 6x768 pixels not utilized...

just bought this lcd last weekend !

value for money buy ~ the pictures are sharp & deep color contrast ! try some ciplak dvd but kinda dissapointed ! well buying some blu-ray movies
to test it out further.

i like the swivel feature and wide viewing angle plus the pic quality.

downside it doesn't support 1080p.

They are not selling any HD-DVD players, unless you specifically order. They have retracted the XA1 for the time being, maybe in anticipation of the arrival of XA2 .tongue.gif

Only the 52inch Samsung 1080p HDTV gets you a free PS3. The rest needs to top up.

For the time being, Mediaplex is SOLD OUT of PS3. They are most likely not taking any orders of PS3, in anticiaption of the local launch.

no more update here d? due to closure of Mediaplex in KLCC and shrinking of products in Midvalley branch, dun think there's much more of excitement going on in this shop anymore. Once a big huuu-haa, now into the once-upon-a-time.
