Hi All,

Would like to know if anybody here successfully upgrade:

1. 16gb RAM 1666Mhz.

The specs said only covers up to 8Gb 1333Mhz and other manage to install 16Gb 1333Mhz. Since the 1333Mhz and 1666Mhz price is the most likely the same, i want to know if anyone has tried this?

2. Sata 3 SSD in Optical Drive

Based on my reading only mbp 13 for 2011 can successfully installed sata 3 ssd in optical drive. The result for 15 and 17 model are most of them failed.

Just want to know if anyone succeeded to try this.


Just want to treat my mbp 17 a boost since it has been serving me well for the pass 4 years.

I removed the DVD drive from my 2010 MacBook White and currently using a SATA 3 hard drive in its place. So far so good. Mod is same as any MBP 13 inch.

yup. as from what i read mbp 13 does not having problem with it. only mbp 15 and 17 2011 has not been successful with it

1. I would suggest you stick to the specs which is 1333MHz . I have upgraded mine to 16 GB 1333 MHz and it's working great.

2. I plan to do the same when budget permits and don't think there be any problem with it. YouTube have a lot of videos on this.

mind telling me ur mbp model?

MBP 17' Late 2011

i had 2011 15" MBP. upgraded to 16gb ram and dual ssd. i removed optical drive and installed another ssd.

i formatted dual SSD to RAID 0. R/W speed is about 1GB/s.

Sata 3 fully compatible with both 15" and 17". just get the right caddy for optical drive replacement.

Mind telling me which caddy are u using?

cant remember the brand but i bought it in Sri Computer. make sure its 9.5mm.
