you are using a quad core processor + 4GB ram and yet scared that AV will slow down your system?? blush.gif
it will only take a little bit of extra time during start up rite??
after that there will be no other effect

I have some bad past experiences when using antivirus... Always causing me trouble so I decided not to install... That's the onli reason why... Until now, problem-free.. icon_rolleyes.gif

hai, i 'm new in vista and using NOD32 av and this av recommed by my friend.
Before my xp using kaspersky av, i feel that very good when i download or open web have virus av will inform me to take action.
And kaspersky av control very friendly and easy not like norton some communicate.
Talk about friendly control for av, AVG also control very user friendly. But it not very powerful for detection virus as kaspersky av.
Talk about speed affected, i'm really want to asks senior member which av will not be affected to the os speed and internet speed ???

Based on my personal experiences.

For free AV: Avira AntiVir. AVG is not bad either, but prefer AntiVir.

For paid AV: Kaspersky.

You can run your AV scan in the background and go on with your normal daily surfing/word processing/stuff (Not sure about gaming though) on Kaspersky... that's what I always do laugh.gif Doesn't lag or slow down anything and it's barely noticeable.

Free AVG
Pay Kapersky

But internet is safe if you know what to open and not. Although I installed AV, only get virus one in 3 or 4 months. Mostly bcoz of warez.

I used Norton Antivirus 2007, Norton Internet Security 2007, AVG Antivirus and Kapersky Antivitus. All also quite good but still got a little bit of lag. The laggiest is Norton Internet Security 2007 and complicated to uninstall Symantec (Norton) products. Just my 2 cents.
