Hello all. I want to ask you guys opinion regarding replica rims. Mostly regarding the safety and fc when using the replica rims. Is it good enough for example for 80% city 20% highway drive and occasion long journey thru Gerik road (Kelantan (hometown) - Penang). Thanks.

Updated guys, any opinion for BHL wheels? Is it any good?

Replica rims work fine as long as you don't go over deep potholes.

Avoid replica rims, buy originals! If want cheap, still buy original but Taiwan//Thailand brands like Advanti, Enkei Tuning, or Lenso, or buy used Japanese rims.

So for example Advanti brand, I saw the pricing in mudah in between rm800-rm1000 for all 4. Does it mean it is replica for Advanti brand or the original one? According to the pricing alone I mean.

Should be ok then. Advanti also cheap already so seldom people want to make fakes out of it. Usually they make fakes for much more expensive rims like Rays/Volk Racing, Work, Enkei Japan, Regamaster/Spoon, BBS, Vossen, etc2.

i dont think replicas of taiwan rims are heavy. They are the lightest among all i ever used. Had used japs and lenso thai as well. Replica taiwan rims turn out to be the lightest for my case and it is very fragile. For japs and lenso, they are heavier but its more solid. BTW, also depends on what type of rims and brands for jap as well

Wat do u want in your rims?
If its just looks then replica rims are good enuf..
If u want more - maybe durability/weight advantages combined then maybe Replica rims are not good enuf..
Note tat original rims are expensive - l mean really expensive not like 30/40/50% more but 300% more..
So in the end.. its up to u..
BTW, weight is only one factor, durability is more than just weight, materials make a difference - meaning making a light n durable rim is not cheap.. making a heavy durable rim is easier..

Std rims of normal cars are always heavy coz they go for durability and strength at the lowest possible cost. But still better use those std rims than the fakes.

haha, just find it very strange that someone out there actually makes knockoffs of that set... have seen many used sets in stores, not very exp actually.

generally i will steer clear of imitation rims as it is a sign that they have no pride in their product. furthermore, especially so when the part in concern is a load bearing part that is critical in vehicle safety.

you will not crash if your imitation momo pedals or sparco gear knob fails, but you would if your rim fails.

furthermore, imitations typically cut corners in material use and manufacturing process. take for example the extremely bent spokes of a TE37. the original are properly forged by cheap casting methods used in imitation will result in rims that are prone to failure.

so if you die die want to go for replica or imitation, then avoid those with too fancy designs as those often needs different manufacturing techniques to make them strong.

As long you are not kaki track day or hit deep pitholes, replica fake rims work just fine

Experience told me that tyre profile is the other main factor for rims life span .Rim JJ also another factor .

When hitting any path hole , longkang , devider or etcetc accident . Original or replica also face the same faith , this apply on casted rim .

And yes , forged rim may endure better than casted rim in same incident , from crack to bent *-*

I change my stock inspira 16 rim to 18 lancer forged rim . 40profile tyre and lastly bent 1biji rim because kena devider .

Now i turn to 17inch aftermarket replica rim with 50profile tyre. Hope can last longer . Driving skill still not improving 😢

So i suggest ts try to get tyres with rim protection feature if you insist want to buy replica rim .

Im planning to switch to RE003 together with the rim. How do I know which tyre that have that feature? Got any indicator? Now not so sure. Maybe gonna use the stock rim and save up money for the original rim. Im using the persona 2016 btw.

RE003 has a bit of rim protection. basically you are looking for the rubber that sits higher than the rim when mounted instead of being flushed. its not exactly rocket science when it come to rim protection, as long as it looks like the rubber is more exposed than then rim then it has rim protection. higher end tyres usually have rim protection of some sort even if not actively advertised.

Avoid using the tyres of the wrong width and most definitely avoid stretching the tyres.

yes. use your stock rim for the time being and safe up for an original.

Had the same dilemma as u. Almost bought advanti/lenso for supposedly better durability. But cant find the design that I like because Proton's bolt pattern is normally 4x114.3, not many rims have this bolt pattern (8 holes for 15"). So I ended up with a replica.

So far half a year no problem, brushed a kerb once and result is similar to stock rim. Furthermore I see/know many ppl using reps too.

The downside is sometimes will feel worried when go thru uneven road, also don't dare to corner hard too often.

The best 15" I've used are Enkei cps2 and Evoregamaster . They are super light .

It's better to find slowly for a used ori Japan rim . Unless u just want the look then only u go for imitation rim . Ori jap Taiwan or Thai rim also will dent if hit potholes too hard . The difference is some badly manufactured will crack and come will even break off at the spokes .

It all depends on how u drive and how u take care of them .

That is my main concern, the safety when using replica rims. I would consider myself a careful driver. Most of the time I would be driving around Penang Island aka city drive. Only sometimes going back hometown which need to go thru Grik road. So those advertisements in mudah which say 15 inch rims in between RM1k +- means its original taiwan/thailand right?

Yeah i also constantly monitor for cracks, which is a bit of a hassle.

1k is normally the price for ori. Find a reputable shop to be safe. Note that the listed price normally havent include centrecone, valve and nuts. It can be another rm200 or so depending on quality.

I think back then I came across a video of an enkei RP01 broke apart during a track day so original one may fail under heavy stress. I don't recommend using replica for aggressive driving. Pay attention to racing evemts and you'll know what to use. Of course cost is one thing so mayne I can say dude it's your car do whatever you like but if aomwthing out of spec fails like your rims then killed innocent people then does it worth rm400?

Just be careful not to get cheated that thought you buy an ori Taiwan rim because price is 1k+ but actually a China fake but priced at 1K above! So you get a double whammy there! laugh.gif

Trust me 90% rims u see on the road are imitation and I rarely see or not yet see them breaks yet. Unless you are telling me you going to drive on potholes everyday which even ori are not going to save you

Even replicas quality are getting better nowadays, not that I condone it, but the reality is genuine forged rims are very expensive and that leaves people with very little choice other than getting replicas.

Other than the quality of the steel, designs also play important role. If you know you're getting replica, especially big-sized rims, please don't buy those designs with small spokes.
