My fav amp, the Mesa Boogie Subway Blues is crackling and hissing each time it powers on even with all the controls turned down to zero. I'd sent it to a tech some months ago and he tried changing out all the tubes but the problem still persists. The amp is about 10 years old..
Does anyone know a good tech for tube amps around KL/PJ area?
Thanks!!

yeah...Ceriatone is i think the one place around that area which really understand what guitar amps are all about...most electric repair shops only understands that if the amp got sound then it is ok...

By the way when you sent to them ask them to study the circuitry and maybe one day i can order a copy of your amp through them... laugh.gif

Guess what.. I sent it to Nik at Ceriatone just now (thanks Everdying) - called him at 8:30pm and they were working late.. nice guy. Left the amp with him and he'll work on it over the weekend. told me that he didn't do repairs but since it was a Boogie.. well, i think he is interested to know where the magic comes from. smile.gif

hey moderneagle,

since you've send your boogie to Nik, why dont you make some time to audition Nik's amps? So far, we've been hearing excellent comments from owners (locally and overseas) of amps made by Nik. And maybe you can post your views on Nik's amps

Top notch amps PLUS excellent and top class service. Ceriatone makes Malaysian proud in the music circle. thumbup.gif rclxms.gif

And you're right, "ada apa pada nama"... but then, Ceriatone is now making a name wink.gif ... Buy local I'd say. You da man Nik ! rclxms.gif

I intend to.. in fact I was kinda itching to try out the near complete AD-30 (Matchless replica). When I go there again to pick up the boogie (once it's fixed sweat.gif ) I will get a chance to sample Malaysia's finest.

My boogie still with Nik, he tried to fix some of the components and that has gotten rid of the crackling noises but still not ori tone. So he's now trying to change out the Output Transformer and see if that works better..

Got a chance to sample the 18W head and it was good.. have placed an order for one with him with addition of effects loop and power lowering (running tubes in triode mode). will update more later..

cool. how much did that cost? I'm thinking of asking them to make a 6L6 power amp for me too.

Yes the 18W is a replica but I've asked him to add an effects loop and half power switch (cos I'm living in an apartment and the neighbours may not take too kindly to 18W, but 9W I am sure they won't mind).

It costs ~ RM 2,400 with the box chassis for the amp and additionals. Nik has two 18W models - with or without the Tremolo - I opted for without cos the Trem makes me dizzy.

Yea, once I get it, please send me your CVs, Everdying and Sean392, so that I know you are not psychopathic mass murderers before I invite you guys over to sample the amp..
