and Go GPUs are fixed on the board, so there is no way of upgrading the card alone.

The benchmark does not fool users. However, it is an indicator that will surely to be changed in the future, as the max score is 5.9.

Microsoft will change their scoring if new hardware/technology are available to them.

Right now, do not be too proud on your hardware because WEI is just a simple benchmarking system. You should put your hardware to the test using other commercial benchmarking tools.

Dude, do not speculate.
He has at least DirectX 9.0 card. A 6600GT (the second lowest hardware I reckon) could score 3.0 or more, as my former 6800XT (128MB) score 3.4 at standard frequency.

The 512MiB RAM amount could score 3.0 and above. If he adds another 512MiB of RAM, the score could be 4.0 or above (with DDR DDR400 RAM).

Here the score should be ..
AMD Athlon64 2800+ - 4.0 (and above if overclocked)
2x256MB PC3200 OCZ Platinum - 3.0
WD 200GB - 4.8 (if PATA, more if SATA)
WD 80GB (4.8 if PATA, more if SATA)
Colorful 128MB 6600GT - 3.0 (if AGP, more if PCI-E)

The lowest 3.0, well more than enough to score Aero Glass at acceptable speed.

you need a DirectX 9.0c cards with SM3.0 hardware like Geforce 7/8 Series.
6xxx only have SM2.0 hardware capabilities.
